Back on the scene after a year’s break following the untimely death of thier original keyboard player The Lords are seven piece band playing a mix of early ska and reggae with a splash of other tunes thrown in. Formed by Archie Marler, frontman of the now defunct Ska Masters, and well known local musician Junior Douglas when Archie wanted, in his own words, “to play a bit of The Clash with Junior”.
The other original members are drummer Joe Bedeau and another ex Ska Master Baz Wells on vocals and his trusty harp. Joe has a long history playing reggae with one of his early bands, Malachi, invited to do a John Peel session as well as playing at the first Lazy Sunday.
They were soon joined by Simon Pay whose last ‘gig’ was in The Royal Marines Band on sax and clarinet. The new line up is completed with lead vocalist Jazz Spencer and on keyboards Jenny Murdoch.
The band tend not to play 2 Tone but instead focus on the earlier Studio One and Trojan artists mixed in with later sounds, you are likely to hear The Lords take on songs from Rancid, Fishbone and No Doubt. Chill, drink or dance your socks off it’s up to you – The Lords have it covered!
