Millennium Concerts Presents: Alex Bowler – Back to Bassics
Alex Bowler has caught people’s attention with his dynamic bass playing. The top bass guitarist has worked with some of the most popular musicians in the UK rock scene including Cliff Moore and Ted McKenna in his band McKenna’s Gold. Fans will once again witness the music prodigy’s skills as he will be performing live in Bedford on Sunday, May 20, for Cancer Research UK.

Cancer Research UK is a charity that is dedicated to cancer research and awareness. It aims to reduce the number of cancer-related deaths. Alex’s series of the bass concert is called “Back To Bassics.” Spectators can expect a dynamic set of instrumental numbers from the bassist. All numbers will be played on the bass and showcase music from various artists including Led Zeppelin, Stanley Clarke, Michael Jackson and Peter Green. Alex will be performing his own compositions as well.

Alex started playing the bass guitar when he was 13 years old. He first saw Ted McKenna playing drums in 1981. At that time, Ted was in Greg Lake’s band. Gary Moore was also featured on guitar. Alex didn’t have any idea that a few years later, he would be playing bass in Ted’s band. Gary’s brother, Cliff Moore, took Alex backstage with his friends to meet the band and that was when he met Ted for the first time. In the late summer of 1986, Alex decided that he wanted to form the best rock band he possibly could. He had been playing bass in Cliff’s band since 1982, and he found it great to work with Cliff who is a great songwriter and guitarist, but in 1986, he felt that it was the right time for him to leave the band and form a band of his own.

Alex combines every Back To Bassics concert with stories of his life and experiences as a bass guitarist and his musical influences. Aside from playing disco, funk, jazz-rock, and blues on the bass, Alex is also an expert in Spanish Flamenco-style soloing. Fans of the bass guitar and music lovers from different generations can look forward to his performance on his Back To Bassics concert.

The line-up will also include performances from the Bedford band Diversion, Christin Bocchetti, Fillip, Elija Miller, Porcelain Gods and Matt Bedford. Tickets for the event cost £5 and can be purchased at the box office at Esquires where the concert will be held. Esquires is one of the most popular independent music venues in the UK where music lovers can watch the hottest new bands. Tickets will also be available on the door at the same price.

Other artists have commended Alex’s bass playing skills. Nathan East, an American vocalist and R&B, jazz and rock bass player, has stated that Alex is a precise and solid bass player who has a real sense of melody, feel, technique and time. According to Nathan, these are all qualities that he loves in a great bassist. The late rock guitarist Gary Moore has said that Alex sounds like Stanley Clarke, an American bassist, as well as founding member of the jazz fusion band, Return to Forever.

At present, Alex plays RJ Foster, Alembic, Gibson, Fender, Manson and Jaydee bass guitars. Alex uses amplification by TC Electronic and medium gauge strings from the Elites Player Series.
