One of the break-out acts of SXSW this year, the fabulously skittery post punk disco of POTTERY will delight the Esquires audience in August as part of a handful of intimate club dates inbetween some high profile festival appearances (Green Man, End of the Road, Iceland Airways, Rock En Seine).
Hailing from across Canada and the UK, Montreal’s Pottery consists of core writers Austin Boylan and Jacob Shepansky, along with Peter Baylis, Paul Jacobs, and Tom Gould. Initially bonding over artists such as Orange Juice, Josef K and Devo, the band creates a sound that combines eclectic traces of post-punk, pop, and dance music. They’ve toured with The Oh Sees, Parquet Courts and are much loved by Marc Riley (6Music).
‘…impossibly tight, cribbing from bits of Television and Talking Heads but updating them with sharp, slick, modern twists; possibly the highlight of the whole SXSW weekend’ (DIY)
‘If you like post-Strokes slightly garage-y guitar pop, this is for you.’ (Steve Lamacq – NME)
‘Pottery stole the show with air-tight angular rock. Their precision was mechanical, but no machine could have produced such liveliness.’ (Northern Transmissions)
Tickets are £8 in advance. Available now from seetickets and shortly from Esquires Bar / Slide Records.
