SUMMARY:COURTING + Guests
DESCRIPTION:COURTING + Guests\n8pm\, Friday 21st October\, Bedford Esquires \nLiverpool four-piece Courting return with a new single titled “Tennis”. \nThe track comes alongside the announcement that the band have signed to [PIAS]\, as well as details of a new run of UK tour dates which are set to take place in Sept / Oct 2022. \nThe new single comes on the heels of the band’s 2021 EP “Grand National”\, which saw them earn plaudits across a wide array of media including landing two singles on the BBC Radio 6 Music Playlist (including an A list)\, as well as coverage in multiple end of year lists including NME 100\, Dork Hype List 2022\, Daily Star Ones To Watch 2021 & DIY Hello 2021\, and further coverage across The Needle Drop\, CRACK\, Dork\, DIY NME\, CLASH\, and London Evening Standard. \n“Tennis” is a first-taste of Courting’s latest musical evolution. Produced by double GRAMMY nominated producer James Dring (Gorillaz\, Jamie T\, Sorry\, Lana Del Rey\, Blur\, Loyle Carner)\, the new single still conveys that same sardonic and whip-smart commentary that has seen them earn swathes of fans and acclaim\, but also finds them exploring a more dynamically expressive than ever before. Built around playful\, angular guitars and driving basslines\, “Tennis” is smattered with electronically manipulated idiosyncrasies\, which occasionally erupt into moments of cacophony\, before breaking through to the songs hook-driven chorus. The instrumentation accompanies frontman Sean Murphy-O’Neill’s incisive vocals which flit between considered and restrained monologuing\, and explosive and acerbic singing\, alongside uplifting\, harmonised backing vocals. The new single is a marked step in a new direction for Courting\, which only stands to accentuate their propensity for captivating and melodic songwriting. \nSpeaking about the single\, the band says\, “Tennis is a paypig’s personal redemption narrative\, set in “the city”\, and told in two parts. A twisted tale of two lovers’ back and forth\, bound by cricket\, bodybuilding\, and money. A story as old as time. We named the song Tennis as a logical (but unrelated) sequel to our two previously released sports-related songs. To us\, this felt like a natural ending to that idea. Dynamically\, the second part of the song is supposed to represent a shift in tone for the character in which they realise their own worth and leave the situation that is set within the first part of the song.” \nTickets priced £10 are on sale from Seetickets and in person from Esquires Bar and Slide Record Store \n“Keep heading straight towards the chaos\, please.” – Dork ★★★★★ \n“Really raw\, really energetic. Fantastic!” – The Needle Drop \n“Thrilling guitar music of the now\, driven home in truly chaotic fashion.” – NME \n“Set to be the next big thing.” – DIY “ \n”A relentlessly off piste indie belter” – CLASH \n“Some of their most ambitious writing” – FLOOD \n“witty writing that takes itself seriously without being pretentious” – London ES

SUMMARY:Actors + guests
DESCRIPTION:Actors + guests – Friday 21st October \nFrom Vancouver\, Canada\, ACTORS electrify with a modern take on post-punk. On debut full-length It Will Come to You\, anthemic songs evoke the urgency of early-80’s U2 (Boy\, October\, War) as well as the driving\, synth drenched scores that emanated from the era’s movie screens. As scene authority Post-Punk.com puts it\, the band conjures “cinematic new-wave… that belongs on a Michael Mann soundtrack.” \n  \nFrontman Jason Corbett’s rich vocals command with all the passion of a young Bono and the coolness of Peter Murphy. Songs like “L’appel du Vide\,” “Slaves\,” “Face Meets Glass\,” and “Bury Me” are bangers that glisten via Corbett’s production job: slamming beats propel warm layers of synth\, guitar\, and vocals. Corbett writes\, produces\, mixes\, and masters all ACTORS music at his own Vancouver studio\, Jacknife Sound. \n  \nCorbett names David Bowie as a fundamental influence – Bowie’s sense of confidence and creativity are in full effect on It Will Come to You. But much more than a “retro” act\, this is music that stands all on its own\, full of life and unforgettable hooks. Perhaps best described as a “post-post-punk” band\, ACTORS belongs in the discussion alongside bands of today like The Soft Moon and Cold Cave who are pushing music forward via a deep knowledge of the past. \n  \nACTORS has toured in the USA\, Canada\, and Europe\, and performed at Terminus Festival 2017\, 2018 (Calgary)\, Out From the Shadows Festival 2018 (Portland)\, and Wave-Gotik-Treffen 2018 (Leipzig)\, with upcoming festival appearances at Infest 2018 (Manchester)\, A Murder of Crows 2018 (Brooklyn)\, and Cold Waves 2018 (NYC\, Chicago\, and Los Angeles). \n  \n“Vancouver’s brilliant post-punk and new-wave quartet ACTORS continue their flair for sonic cinematics in the video for their latest track ‘Face Meets Glass’… The atmosphere quivers with singer Jason Corbett’s crooning reverb augmented by shivering guitars and stark synths.” \n— POST-PUNK.COM

A show that always delivers.\n\n“…like Chicago blues fired at the moon\, played by the demented children of the Pretty Things.” Rolling Stone\n\n“DADDY LONG LEGS takes the blues and turns them inside out\, upside down\, round about and renews their primal energy. In dark times they continue to shine their light everywhere they go leaving a piece of themselves on stage every night because it’s in them and it’s got to come out. Now the boys make their highly anticipated post pandemic return to the UK + EU in October and unveil their new killer 4 piece format with Dave Klein on Piano who joins the original lineup of Brian Hurd (Lead Vocals/Blues Harp) Murat Aktürk (Guitars/Vocals) and Josh Styles (Drums/Maracas).\n\nIt’s been 2 1/2 long years since the boys toured the UK + EU playing their last gig in Dublin just hours before the lockdown officially kicked in. In the meantime the Brooklyn 4 piece have cooked up a new album to follow up the genre defying “Lowdown Ways” released on Yep Roc Records in 2019. Stay tuned for details on the new release coming early next year.

SUMMARY:HONEYGLAZE + Car Boot Sale + Low Girl ***Event postponed***
DESCRIPTION:***This event has been been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. Refunds available from point of sale*** \nFirst impressions count; and sometimes the ones that last the longest\, are the ones that appear out of the unexpected as opposed to the linearly pre-imagined. Against all odds\, for Honeyglaze\, all it took was a thirty-minute live-session recorded in the garage of their close pal Fran for ‘FarmFest 2020’\, (an event which had the world been in better health\, would’ve been held in the fields of a Catholic Workers Farm)\, for everything they once knew to change. \nPricking the ears of seminal producer Dan Carey and his team of merry taste-makers: Speedy Wunderground (Tiña\, Squid\, Black Country New Road)\, initial brainstorms saw the now-newly formed allegiance attempt to recreate the infamous ‘FarmFest’ live session\, in album form. However\, as is often the case in life\, ideas fluctuated with time and synchronised brain-spark\, and so the Speedy Wunderground / Honeyglaze partnership would manifest into a dynamic that\, despite not having met prior\, quite simply\, just worked.\nIn all it took two months’ of rehearsals\, and all-but three days’ worth of studio time to finish and record live\, the eleven tracks that would come to not only be Honeyglaze’s debut album\, and\, the sophomore full-length on Speedy Wunderground\, but also the trio’s first “real” offering to date. \nTackling themes varying from jealousy to inadequacy\, cushion-y companionships to the smell of coffee on clothes\, as with all good reflections of self\, Honeyglaze is a fly on the wall opportunity to get to know three familial strangers in your own way- whilst they too suss out themselves\, and the ever-growing circle around them\, in the span of 35 minutes. \nAs for what remains\, be it performing to a rammed crowd at Brecon Beacons ‘Green Man’ festival back in August\, or playing at the iconic ‘100 Club’ for Fred Perry’s ‘All Our Tomorrow’s Festival’\, it’s safe to say that Honeyglaze are well and truly embodying the concept of ‘one’s to watch’. \nIn their own words: “Hi we are Honeyglaze\, and there’s no time to explain.”

SUMMARY:The Lottery Winners + Little Quirks + Sarpa Salpa SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:The Lottery Winners + Guests \n7.30pm\, Thursday 13th October \nBorn in Salford and raised on romance\, The Lottery Winners blend momentous guitar pop melodies with a humorous and wistful lyricism. The band has built an extensive and loyal fanbase through consistent touring\, earning a reputation for hugely entertaining\, blisteringly loud live shows. \nIn 2020 the Lottery Winners truly bloomed\, with their debut album entering the Official Charts at #10 and #3 in the vinyl chart on the day lockdown was announced. Literally living in a bubble the band worked day and night on creative projects\, writing and recording a wealth of new music\, collaborating with Frank Turner\, Sleeper\, the Wonder Stuff and even (bizarrely) Nickelback. Penning songs like ‘Start Again’\, ‘An Open Letter to Creatives’\, and the ‘The Days Keep Passing Me By’\, the band have created a legacy that is a real timestamp and saw them gain over 10 million streams on Spotify. They even made their own TV show with an impressive line-up of celebrity guests. \nAfter being discovered by music industry legend Seymour Stein (who famously signed Madonna\, The Ramones\, Talking Heads and many more\,) Lottery Winners have spent the last two years recording tracks for their debut album….a complete labour of love\, with a longer than planned delay due to the well-trodden path of record label disputes and the lengthy process of taking back control. The album was produced by Tristem Ivemy (Frank Turner\, The Holloways\, Beans On Toast) and mastered at Abbey Road. Starting in the pubs and working men’s clubs of Lancashire (including the legendary Phoenix Nights) this fierce foursome has truly grafted to reap the rewards. Lottery Winners is made of real flesh and bones. It’s made of working-class Britain. It’s made of self-deprecation\, dire deprivation and true dedication. Their live shows explode from the stage and stay in the minds of the audience\, buried in there forever. They always come back. This is your new favourite band\, whether you know it yet or not. \nIn 2021 the band\, freed from their cages\, released a string of radio singles\, and playing sold out shows and main-stages of festivals all over the world\, including a sell out O2 Ritz in Manchester\, and special shows with a full orchestra. Their sophomore album reached an impressive #11 in the Official UK\, and number #2 in the UK Official Independent Charts. \nGet up and start again. \nTickets are on general sale from Fri 5th August from Seetickets at 10am on Friday priced £14 \nGuest support TBC

SUMMARY:The Skids + Guests
DESCRIPTION:The Skids+ support \n7.30pm Sunday 9th October – Bedford Esquires \nThe Saints Are Coming ! (again) Very pleased to announce we are bringing The Skids back to Bedford again following their packed show at the Bedford Corn Exchange in 2018 this time in the more intimate surroundings of Bedford Esquires. \nThe Skids formed in 1977 in their home town of Dunfermline\, Scotland by Richard Jobson\, Stuart Adamson\, Bill Simpson & Tom Kellichan. After releasing an independent single the band were played by John Peel\, supported The Clash in concert and then were signed to Virgin Records in 1978. Their first singles were “Sweet Surburbia”\, “The Saints are Coming” and “Into the Valley” – the latter reaching the UK Top Ten in early 1979. \nTheir seminal debut album “Scared to Dance” came out in 1979 which was quickly followed by two chart singles – “Masquerade” and “Working for the Yankee Dollar”. Both singles were taken from the Bill Nelson produced second album “Days in Europa”. The album also featured new member Rusty Egan of Rich Kids & Visage fame after the departure of Tom Kellichan. The band released two more albums “The Absolute Game” (1980) and “Joy” (1981) before splitting. \nDue to the size of Esquires and the fact the band usually play bigger venues we are expecting quite a high demand on tickets.  The tickets priced £25 are on sale Friday 29th July at 10am from Seetickets and will be available in person from Esquires Bar  and Slide Record Shop from Saturday 30th July.

SUMMARY:REGRESSIVE LEFT + Phantom Isle
DESCRIPTION:REGRESSIVE LEFT + Guests\n7:30pm Sunday 2nd October\, Bedford Esquires \n  \nWe’re super stoked to announce that one of our favourite new bands\, Regressive Left will be joining us as part of their headline UK tour in October! \nLast seen here blowing everyone away at the ‘Ceremony’ all dayer in August 2021\, we’ve been waiting a wee while to get them back to town. \n  \nHere’s the blurb… \nIn dark\, troubling times\, maybe the most instantly gratifying solace one can seek is a wittily barbed diagnosis of the situation. “The fox has his den. The bee has his hive. The stoat … his stoat-hole\,” Stewart Lee once remarked: “But only man chooses to make his nest in an investment opportunity.” Caustic retorts like this are what fuel the debut EP by dance-punk outfit Regressive Left\, ‘On The Wrong Side of History’. For pervading through their dynamic and glitching music is a duty to report unflinchingly society’s ills. They are a staunchly political group\, but far from your average po-faced by-numbers punk band. There is a gristly social commentary at the band’s core\, but the songs themselves are characterised by a need to have fun\, to find some kind of solace and escapism from the inevitable rapture. \n  \nRecorded over an intense 5-day spell with in-demand producer Ross Orton (Arctic Monkeys\, MIA\, Amyl and The Sniffers) in Sheffield\, Regressive Left’s debut EP ‘On The Wrong Side of History’ was immortalised over a handful of 11am-1am sessions in his studio. In many ways it is a time capsule of the maelstrom of ideas that got the group to this point in the first place – the infuriating\, bleak political climate\, and the urge to find escapism from it – consigned to vinyl in one herculean effort. Taking influence from the booming post-punk\, funk and disco scenes of New York\, Regressive Left’s sound is stark and danceable. Angular guitar scratches meet dirty synth basslines\, whilst Simon Tyrie’s Edwyn Collins croon is chased around by effervescent drums. The banal horror of life in Tory Britain expressed with sharp and dry wit\, and then set to truly barnstorming and infectious dance music \nDue out July 15th on Bad Vibrations Records\, the new EP arrives following a trio of acclaimed singles (‘Eternal Returns’\, ‘Take the Hit’\, ‘Cream Militia’)\, tours with the likes of Bodega and Folly Group\, festival appearances at End of the Road\, Latitude and Wide Awake\, and a sold-out headline at The Windmill. \n————- \nTickets are £8 adv\, on sale right now from Seetickets \n  \nFull support line up TBA

SUMMARY:BLAZE BAYLEY – ‘War Within Me Tour’ + Absolva
DESCRIPTION:BLAZE BAYLEY – ‘War Within Me Tour’ \nPlus Special Guests ‘ABSOLVA’ \nLive At Bedford Esquires – Saturday 24th September \nBLAZE BAYLEY is a singer/songwriter born 29th May 1963 in Birmingham\, England. Having started his professional music career in WOLFSBANE in 1984\, he was elevated to global heights when he joined IRON MAIDEN with whom he released two albums (“X-Factor” and “Virtual XI”) and toured worldwide between 1994 and 1999. After leaving IRON MAIDEN\, Blaze embarked on a solo career\, during which he has released eleven full-length studio albums\, plus live albums\, live DVDs and compilations. He’s also enjoyed an enviable reputation as one of the hardest working artists touring around. \nIn 2015 Blaze celebrated the 15th anniversary of his first solo release “Silicon Messiah” and then saw a significant worldwide resurgence of interest in his career\, not least with the release of the “Infinite Entanglement” trilogy during the period 2016 to 2018. \nThis was followed up with two live offerings – the albums and DVDs “Live In France” and “Live In Czech” (2019 and 2020 respectively). During these recent years Blaze has toured widely in the UK\, Europe\, North America and Latin America. He’s become particularly recognised as an independent artist dedicated and remarkably connected with his fans\, as well as for his unmistakable high energy\, no-nonsense\, live performances. Blaze joined DISTURBED onstage at the 2016 Download Festival for a rendition of ‘Baba O’Riley’ by THE WHO\, was recently accompanied onstage in Poland by Swedish metalheads SABATON for a version of Maiden classic ‘Man On The Edge’ and was voted no.67 in Sweden Rock magazine’s Top One Hundred singers of all time. \nDuring the period 2014 to present date\, Blaze has benefitted from a settled line-up for his backing band\, picked from British melodic metal band ABSOLVA – Christopher Appleton (lead guitar)\, Martin Mcnee (drums) and Karl Schramm (bass) whilst Luke Appleton (rhythm/lead guitar) of ABSOLVA is added when the band plays an Iron Maiden 25th anniversary setlist at selected shows. Blaze and his band have received critical acclaim for outstanding performances\, including Sweden Rock Festival\, Rock the Coast (Spain)\, and Headbangers Open Air (Germany). \nIn summer 2020\, whilst touring has been minimal due to the coronavirus pandemic\, Blaze was writing new material with his co-writer/producer Christopher Appleton\, for a new full-length album release early in 2021. \nThe new studio album ‘WAR WITHIN ME’ was revealed and pre-orders launched in December 2020. \nBlaze’s management stated… “We are truly excited to present the 11th Blaze Bayley studio recording ‘War Within Me’. The pre-orders are available now at the Blaze Bayley webshop www.blazebayley.co.uk with 6 options including CD\, Vinyl and Deluxe Fanpack.” \nThe new album is produced by Blaze Bayley and Christopher Appleton\, mastered by Ade Emsley\, artwork designed by Akirant Illustration & all songs written by Blaze Bayley and Christopher Appleton. \n================================= \nVery special guest support ABSOLVA : www.absolva.com \nABSOLVA is a uniquely explosive British melodic heavy metal band\, fronted by Chris Appleton\, a guitarist carrying the spirit and feel of blues-era GARY MOORE into the metal arena\, throwing the thrills and tricks suggestive of a new JOE SATRIANI\, whilst projecting his melodic vocals and personality as a true master frontman in the rock genre. Accompanied by brother Luke Appleton\, who is an imposing and powerful rhythm guitar player\, going on to complement his older brother with some electrifying lead playing and backing vocals. This results in the delightful impact of twin harmony guitars reminiscent of THIN LIZZY at their best. On drums it’s as if John Bonham decided to project his spirit into the consciousness of Bill Ward\, a true heavy rock drummer in the metal genre. Martin Mcnee\, often called ‘The Machine’\, is the embodiment of the archetypal powerhouse rock/metal drummer\, skilfully combining the technical gift with groove and feel. Completing the bedrock rhythm section is the granite-like toughness of Karl Schramm’s bass playing\, very much his own man\, but with an undeniable nod to his biggest influence – Steve Harris\, the bass playing legend of British metal heroes IRON MAIDEN. To accompany the outstanding musicianship and performances\, Absolva has an enviable catalogue with now six studio albums and 2 live\, containing riffs\, melodies\, fretboard theatrics\, with the most treasured gift of truly memorable songs. \nTickets priced £18 are on sale from Seetickets from Friday 11th February and available in person from Slide Record Store & Esquires bar from the 14th Feb.
