SUMMARY:COACH PARTY + Korts
DESCRIPTION:Rescheduled date. Seetickets may have refunded your original tickets so please check! \nEmerging Isle of Wight four-piece Coach Party are the latest addition to the Chess Club family\, Coach Party have joined the ranks of a label famed for breaking new talent – where recent signings include Alfie Templeman and Phoebe Green\, and past successes include Jungle and Wolf Alice. \nThe band’s fiery first track ‘Oh\, Lola’ was accompanied with 16mm film visuals courtesy of Daniel Broadley. Speaking about the track and its inspiration – solidarity with friends in moments of turmoil – Coach Party’s lead vocalist and bassist Jess Eastwood said\, “No matter how boring\, frustrating and dumb life is\, ‘Oh\, Lola’ is that one friend we all have that when you’re together\, you overcome all of that negativity and just have fun. That’s what ‘Oh\, Lola’ is about.” The band all grew up on the Isle of Wight (“it’s only a matter of time until you meet pretty much everyone else on the Island\,” says Jess) and eventually crossed paths as avid music fans – working in venues\, playing together and meeting at the same gigs. Coach Party eventually formed after Jess and guitarist Steph Norris decided to start playing music together; quickly realising that there was something special about the pair’s songwriting and bond\, guitarist Joe Perry and drummer Guy Page joined the ranks. Musically\, Coach Party are inspired by a broad palate of artists\, but always find themselves drawn back to Nirvana\, Sonic Youth and The Strokes\, and contemporary artists like Wolf Alice\, The Big Moon and Tame Impala. Ultimately though\, Coach Party’s primary drive to write and perform music comes from “the often entertaining struggle of real life.” \nThe band still live and work on the Isle of Wight (Jess at a farm park\, Guy in a music studio and Steph & Joe in cafes)\, and describe life on the island as going “through pretty distinct phases of being a great\, and a really frustrating place to live.” The opening of new venue Strings two years ago has raised the energy of live music in the area and provided the impetus for Coach Party’s breakout first offering ‘Oh\, Lola’ today. With more music and a slew of live show announcements due soon\, Coach Party’s name and influence is set to spread far\, far beyond the IOW’s shores before too long.

SUMMARY:The Natvral + guests
DESCRIPTION:THE NATVRAL + guests – 7.30pm\, Bedford Esquires\, Sunday 24th April \n  \nAs the frontman of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart\, Kip Berman wrote songs about the thrills and ills of young adult life with the care and concern of a cool older sibling. The long-standing New York City indiepop group disbanded soon after releasing their final record\, The Echo of Pleasure (2017)\, and Berman found himself at a creative crossroads. He wanted to keep making music\, but the themes and sounds he was interested in had shifted; it felt time for a course correction. \n  \nEnter Tethers\, Berman’s first solo record as The Natvral\, which finds him coming to terms with the changes in his own life by observing those transformations in the people he’s known – a self-portrait in relief. In the time between making his last record with his former band\, Berman’s life and location have shifted dramatically\, as he welcomed a daughter\, then a son\, and moved from Brooklyn to Princeton. With his new identity as a parent came a crucial shift in how he approached music. Gone were the months in a cramped tour van and late nights rehearsing with his band in a windowless warehouse space. In its place were amorphous\, suburban afternoons playing whimsical songs to two young children\, while writing music for himself after their bedtime. \n  \nBut in this time away from the life of a touring artist\, Berman discovered an unvarnished\, broken folk rock sound– a marked departure from his previous work. Recorded over 7 days with producer Andy Savours (My Bloody Valentine\, Black Country New Road\, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart)\, Tethers is as raw in sound as it is nuanced and empathetic in its lyricism. “It wasn’t so much a decision about how to work. It was the only way to do it. I had these songs\, but not much time\, so we just tracked everything as quickly and in the moment as we could and hoped for the best\,” says Berman of his process. Without effect pedals\, overdubs or even a metronome\, the resulting album feels free and unpretentious\, recalling the strident obliqueness of Bob Dylan and Neil Young’s sonic primitivism – but drawn from a set of vividly detailed experiences all Berman’s own. Throughout\, he is supported by former TPOBPAH collaborators Jacob Sloan (bass)\, Brian Alvarez (drums)\, Sarah Chihaya (backing vocals) and Crystal Stilts/Woods Kyle Forester (organ). \n  \nOpener and lead single\, “Why Don’t You Come Out Anymore?” tells of reconnecting with an old friend and noticing they now wear a wedding band and their hair is graying – a reminder of all the reasons people lost touch long before Covid. The elegiac “Sun Blisters” examines the tensions between knowing there’s a certain freedom in being a fuckup\, while also reckoning with the emotional consequences of forever living on the margins. But far from settling on a tidy moral\, the song instead favors an ambivalence about what “doing the right thing” in the straight world means. “In the end maybe I was wrong/laughing where only tears belong/but love to you’s just a pretty song/and I’m a sour note.” \n  \nMeanwhile on the gilded ballad\, “Sylvia\, the Cup of Youth\,” he recalls a past love who was constantly restarting her life as Berman sought permanence for his own. “I’m older than I was and I was older then/you seem the same when I catch sight of you\,” he sings in a moment of reflection as an organ blooms out of the song’s latticework. “Sometimes you’d kid and say I was your Galahad/I never was as good as that but you – did you find the cup of youth?” inverting the grail myth and resisting inhabiting the treacly virtue of the painfully pure at heart white knight. \n  \nTethers\, in spirit and sound\, is a taut rope\, charged with the tension between wanting to go out and know the world\, and the love that compels Berman to stay home and find peace with his young family. In Berman’s eyes\, the two are not mutually exclusive. “Before my daughter was born\, I was afraid she would take me away from music. When she was born\, I was afraid music would take me away from her. But now I know I need both to continue to grow as a parent and an artist.” \n  \nTo dream of being homeward bound and also to walk the earth makes life more electric. As Berman puts it\, “I always wanted to know the fullness of life – and I didn’t want to be a tour guide at my own museum.” On Tethers\, Berman has re-emerged with a bracing debut\, reveling in the freedom to go his own way\, even if that way is home. \n  \nTickets on sale Friday 26th November from Seetickets and in person week commencing 1st December from Esquires Bar & Slide Record Store.

SUMMARY:Missing Andy
DESCRIPTION:Missing Andy are a 5 piece Brit Pop Rock Guitar band from Essex. Come see what all the fuss is about!!! \nMissing Andy have gone from strength to strength after the release of their long awaited debut album ‘Generation Silenced’ in 2011. Touring the album across the UK and Europe\, this industrious band slowly built a strong\, dedicated and diverse fan base. Often appealing to entire families\, bringing the older generation music they could believe in once again\, and something with real substance to a new generation who have known nothing more than the superficial\, conveyor-belt class of music that plagues today’s charts. \nSupport from\nVigilantes & The Arrow

SUMMARY:RIDE perform 'Nowhere' in full. 30th anniversary show. ***SOLD OUT***
DESCRIPTION:Pioneering shoegaze legends RIDE will be appearing at Bedford Esquires on Wednesday the 20th of April 2022 for a very special show where they will be performing their classic album ‘Nowhere’ in full. \nThe Oxford 4 piece\, who reformed in 2014 to headline the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona\, are touring the UK to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their debut LP. Featuring such timeless songs as ‘Dreams Burn Down’ and the amazing ‘Vapour Trail’\, it was originally released in 1990 and is still widely heralded as one of the best albums of the decade\, with Rolling Stone magazine calling it ‘a masterpiece’ and Pitchfork declaring it ‘one of shoegazing’s enduring moments’. \nWith dates at venues such as the Manchester Ritz and London’s Roundhouse Theatre long sold out\, RIDE will be appearing at Esquires for the very first time as a ‘warm up’ show for their tour. \nThe gig came about when the venue asked Ride guitarist Andy Bell if he would support Stereolab when they played Bedford back in September 2021. Andy loved the venue and when the promoters asked if there was a chance he might return with Ride\, he promised he would see if he could make it happen. We are all huge Ride fans here at Esquires and we are absolutely ecstatic that the band have agreed to play our little venue. \nTickets are £27.50 in advance\, available from 10am Friday the 27th of February from www.seetickets.com

SUMMARY:The Lovely Eggs
DESCRIPTION:The Lovely Eggs + guests \n8pm\, Saturday 9th April\, Bedford Esquires \nMissing in action at Bedford Esquires for nearly 4 years we are very pleased to announce the return of The Lovely Eggs to the venue on Saturday 9th April as part of their mammoth UK tour. \nFor the last two years The Lovely Eggs have sat back and watched England and the rest of the planet slowly eat itself. Their Number One Official UK Independent selling album “I am Moron” is the result of their observations\, a relentless analysis of a modern culture that is bringing the world to its knees. \n“I am Moron”\, bears the fruit of The Lovely Eggs second collaboration with Grammy award winning producer Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips\, Mercury Rev\, Mogwai\, MGMT\, Tame Impala) at his studio in upstate New York. \nUpon its release “I am Moron” went straight to Number One in the UK Independent Album Charts. It also took the Number One spot in the UK vinyl charts as well as the UK Independent Album Breakers Chart. \nDebut single “This Decision” unfurled a seething two-minute-and-fifty-seconds of rage\, reaching Number 1 in both the Official UK Physical and Vinyl Charts\, with follow up single “Still Second Rate” ironically reaching Number 2 in the UK Official Physical and Vinyl charts. \n“I am Moron” was declared “Album of the Day” by BBC 6 Music and received critical acclaim from the national press. The Sunday Times called it “A Triumph”\, ★★★★      “I am Moron is much cleverer than it would have you believe”– The Telegraph\, ★★★★ – I Paper\, 9/10- Louder Than War\, “An act of fine calibration of noise and sweetness”- Q\, “Packed with their observations of modern culture and the utter madness of the current world”- Sunday Mirror\, Album of the month- Classic Rock\, “Their Best Record Yet”– Long Live Vinyl\, 8/10- Uncut\, “Anarcho spirit dominates”– MOJO\, “Excellent”- Brooklyn Vegan. \nThe Lovely Eggs are wilfully independent. They have no management\, no booking agent\, no record label and no publisher. With NINE BBC 6 music sessions under their belt\, as well as sessions for Radio One and Radio X\, they have enjoyed huge support from UK radio. And they continue to sell out gigs across the UK under their own steam. \nThey have produced six albums. Fifth album “This is Eggland”(their first with Dave Fridmann as producer/mixer) was released in February 2018 to critical acclaim. It was added to the 6 music Playlist and announced by HMV as one of their Top 50 Albums of the year. \nWith releases across the world\, The Lovely Eggs have played hundreds of gigs around the UK\, USA and Europe. Their songs have been produced by Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals)\, remixed by Tjinder Singh (Cornershop) and sampled by Zane Lowe for Scroobius Pip. Their latest release “I\, Moron” is a collaboration with Godfather of Punk Iggy Pop which shot straight to number one in both the Official U.K. Physical and Vinyl charts. \nWith observational and often surreal lyrics about life The Lovely Eggs have a powerful raw sound that creates the sonic illusion of a band twice their size and have become known for their ferocious yet joyous live performances. They’re undoubtedly the most real band in Britain\, operating in a world when true authenticity is hard to find. \nThe Lovely Eggs are one of the most exciting\, innovative and genuine bands of the Great British Underground. Welcome to their world. \nTickets priced £15 are on sale Friday 11th February and available in person from Slide Record Store / Esquires bar from the 14th Feb.

SUMMARY:False Heads & The Toffees
DESCRIPTION:False Heads are an east London-based three-piece rock/punk band consisting of Luke Griffiths (Vocals/Guitar)\, Jake Elliott (Bass) and Barney Nash (Drums/Vocals). \nEmerging out of 2020 with a Joe Cross mix of ‘Twenty Nothing’ taken from their debut album the band have now clocked up near 2.8 million streams and accelerating towards the magic 3 million mark. \nFalse Heads’ reputation is picking up more pace than ever\, as their sound reaches ears on a global scale and their unbelievably fearless live shows end up in controlled chaos time and time again. \nThink QOTSA and The Pixies with a bit of The Ramones thrown in for good measure.

SUMMARY:Girls in Synthesis + Special Guests
DESCRIPTION:Girls In Synthesis have quickly forged a fearsome reputation as one of the most exciting and volatile live acts in London. In equal parts frantic\, considered\, ear-splitting and melodic\, the group take their cues from the early DIY punk and post-punk pioneers to keep everything in-house; artwork\, videos\, performances and recordings are created entirely by the group and their handful of trusted collaborators\, with their 3 hand-packaged vinyl E.P releases selling out in days on pre-orders. \nExperimentation sees them transgress the punk bracket into something more original and unique while stage shows present a complete and controlled spectacle\, with the group moving from playing on stage to dragging equipment into the audience\, desperately trying to remove the group/audience barrier. Their explosive shows have seen them hand picked for support slots with bands as disparate as Bad Breeding\, Slaves\, Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs\, Wolf Alice\, Warmduscher and Damo Suzuki.
