SUMMARY:Prima Queen + Oscar Browne
DESCRIPTION:Prima Queen + Oscar Browne  \n7.30pm\, Friday 26th May\, Esquires\, Bedford \n Prima Queen’s love story is one which cinema could only aspire to. An instant connection that was nearly missed. A divide of 4\,000 miles and an Atlantic Ocean. An almost-marriage. A tour supporting The Big Moon\, Dream Wife and Wet Leg\, and six-figure streams. The magic of their ethereal\, guitar-driven sound is built not on romantic love\, but something immeasurably stronger: female friendship. \nLouise Macphail and Kristin McFadden almost didn’t meet at all. Kristin travelled from her native Chicago to join the same course as Louise last minute in London\, and as soon as she saw her perform in front of the class\, Louise as good as musically proposed to her right there and then: “Will you be in my band?” \nArmed with bassist Kitty Drummond\, drummer Heledd Owen and an arsenal of demos\, the band began to cut their teeth on the live circuit of South London\, putting their songs to the test in the likes of Brixton tastemaker\, The Windmill. The arrival of their 2019 debut single “Milk Teeth” was a statement of intent\, with its mellow grooves and intimate\, diaristic lyrics which unfurled their feelings in media res\, steeped equally in storytelling and vibrant imagery. \nAfter sparking a friendship with Juliette “Jules” Jackson and Fern Ford of Mercury Prize shortlisters\, The Big Moon on tour\, the pair volunteered to assist Prima Queen on the production of singles “Chew My Cheeks” and “Invisible Hand”\, encouraging them to elevate their sound to new emotional and musical heights through experimentation. \nIt stands to reason that Prima Queen’s singles released last year are their most adventurous and sensitive portrayals so far. “Eclipse” is an anthem of incredible tension and release about the way your first heartbreak is the hardest to recover from\, and “Butter Knife” is a masterclass in spoken-word catharsis\, exploring the deterioration of a loved one due to Alzheimer’s. Prima Queen sold out their show at The Lexington two months in advance and have already found fans in from The Guardian\, the NME and Steve Lamacq who has given the band over 100 plays across 6 Music and Radio 1\, personally inviting them to wrap up 2022 with a Maida Vale Session. \nBut with their debut EP Not The Baby on the horizon\, Prima Queen are ready to not only deliver on their early promise but far exceed it. This collection of songs\, being their first body of work\, demonstrates the band’s remarkable gift for empathy beyond their own parallel experiences. They explain\, “In this EP\, we explore different types of change – birth\, death\, leaving and returning – and how it can affect our relationships. It’s a reflection not only on our own feelings but also the feelings of our family\, friends and lovers.” Resonance\, above all else\, is what Kristin and Louise are striving for – that\, and a sense of unity which bleeds into the way the music is intended to be heard: all together. So\, take their hand. Prima Queen are going to tell you a story. \nSupport comes from Oscar Brown \nTickets priced £10 are sale from Friday 24th March from Seetickets online and in person from Slide Record Shop and Esquires Bar

SUMMARY:JOHN + Guests
DESCRIPTION:JOHN + Guests \n7.30pm Wednesday 24th May – Bedford Esquires \nWe’re super excited to be welcoming the return of JOHN to Bedford Esquires on Wednesday 24th May \nFour arms\, four legs\, two heads\, wood\, metal and plastic. A band of two Johns from Crystal Palace\, London\, UK the two piece JOHN (both members aptly named John) offer a deadpan approach that has become the recognizable trait of their live performance\, with an almost mechanical solidity rare for only two bodies. \nAlongside the tight rhythmic synchronisation of guitar and drums\, introspective lyrics suggest that literature and spoken word are just as important influences as the Punk\, Noise and Rock genres they might comfortably fit into. This balance between content and volume has lead them on to stages with bands such IDLES\, Mclusky and METZ\, as well gathering support from BBC 6Music’s Steve Lamacq and Seattle’s KEXP. \nLast seen at tearing it up Esquires at the Ceremony Festival we can’t wait to get them back in the building.  Tickets priced £12 are on sale from Seetickets from Friday 10th at 10am from Seetickets and available in person from Esquires Bar and Slide Record Shop from Friday 17th Feb. \n‘In this post-truth world where alternative facts get squeezed out via the distorted prism of social media\, the simplicity of a band like JOHN makes for a refreshing tonic’ Loud and Quiet ‘ \n Irresistibly catchy…big and loud and angry and great!’ – Simon Pegg\, BBC 6Music \n ‘Explosive track ‘Balfron’ is akin to the rest of their LP God Speed In The National Limit. A raw pummel of drums and guitars’ – Kevin Cole\, KEXP \n  \nIf you are into bands like Idles\, Fontaines DC\, The Murder Capital\, Life et al\, you don’t wanna miss em.

SUMMARY:Creedence Clearwater Review
DESCRIPTION:Creedence Clearwater Review\n7:30pm – Sat 20th May – Live at Bedford Esquires\n\nCreedence Clearwater Review are the UK’s premier tribute to Creedence Clearwater Revival\, one of America’s greatest bands who\, despite their relatively short career\, left an enduring legacy of classic songs written and sung by lead guitarist\, singer and songwriter John Fogerty.\nCapturing the feel\, sound and atmosphere of the original songs\, Creedence Clearwater Review pack all the hits and more into two hours plus of rootsy\, swampy\, bluesy and sometimes country flavoured rock and roll. Creedence’s biggest songs\, Proud Mary\, Bad Moon Rising\, Fortunate Son and Who’ll Stop The Rain all get the treatment as well as their covers of classics like I Heard It Through The Grapevine\, Midnight Special and Susie Q.\n\nThere’s audience involvement\, singalongs and plenty of rousing choruses to join in on with the Review’s authentic and power packed tribute to the Creedence legacy. There’s also a nod to John Fogerty’s solo career in the show\, with songs like Almost Saturday Night\, Hot Rod Heart and of course Rockin’ All Over The World.\n\nDale Taylor storms the role of John Fogerty on guitar and vocals\, which is no easy task considering Fogerty’s iconic power and range. delivering the same rawness and energy of the original performances\, backed up with a solid and experienced band who stick as closely to the album tracks as possible.\n\nPerforming a range of CCR material consisting of all of their biggest\, classic hits\, album tracks and wonderful obscurities\, Creedence Clearwater Review will take you on a nostalgia trip you won’t want to miss.\nCreedence Clearwater Review\, the definitive UK tribute.\n\nTickets price £14 are on sale from Friday 2nd December at 10am from Seetickets or in person from Slide Record Store or Bedford Esquires Bar.

SUMMARY:AURELIO VOLTAIRE + Rosegarden Funeral Party
DESCRIPTION:Aurelio Voltaire is often described as a modern day renaissance man. He is a singer/ performer\, author\, creator of comic books\, films\, animation\, toys and home decor. \nAn internationally touring musician\, he is at the forefront of the Gothic\, Steampunk and Dark Cabaret genres headlining some of the biggest horror\, sci-fi and comic book conventions as well as Gothic and Steampunk festivals for nearly two decades. His music can best be described as a collection of murder ballads\, tongue-in-cheek exercises in the macabre\, with just enough bawdy songs about Star Trek and Star Wars to keep a sci-fi convention audience rolling in the aisles. Many know him for his songs “Brains!” and “Land of the Dead” from the Cartoon Network show “The Grim Adventures of Billy And Mandy” and for the viral fan animated videos for his songs “The Night”\, “Land of the Dead” \, “Zombie Prostitute”\, “Stuck with You”\, Raised by Bats” and “Chupando” (viral hits from the animated videos of Daria Cohen’s Vampair series\, with a combined 71 million views on Youtube). \nVoltaire’s live shows\, whether solo or with his skeletal orchestra\, are full of stories and games. Many describe his shows as sitting around a fire while an old friend regales you with tales\, presuming that old friend drinks a liter of rum a night\, dates zombies and wrestles Krakens.Voltaire has been recording and touring for nearly 30 years. He’s released 13 full length CDs.Aurelio Voltaire began his career as a stop-motion animation director in the 80s\, directing award-winning station identification spots for MTV\, SyFy Channel\, Nickelodeon and more as well as animating television commercials for Budweiser\, Ikea\, Kellogg’s\, Wendy’s and many other international brands. As a short film director\, Voltaire created a series of animated shorts that featured collaborations with Danny Elfman (Oingo Boingo)\, Deborah Harry (Blondie)\, Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance)\, Richard Butler (The Psychedelic Furs) and Gary Numan. These short films won a collected 36 film festival awards. As a comic book and graphic novel creator in the 90s and early 2000s\, Aurelio Voltaire created three different series; Chi-Chian\, Oh My Goth! and Deady\, the third of which included collaborations with Neil Gaiman\, Clive Barker and many other luminaries of the dark fiction world. They also spawned an award winning animated series on the SyFy channel’s website written and directed by Voltaire as well as over two dozen toy licensing deals. Most recently\, Aurelio Voltaire can be seen in his informative and hilarious Youtube series\, Gothic Homemaking. In this show\, that can best be described as Vincent Price taking over for Martha Stewart\, he demonstrates how to turn your boring apartment into a Gothic lair with the help of a desiccated co-host\, Orville Deadenbacher and a bunch of other recurring monster characters. The New York Times did a feature on Aurelio Voltaire and Gothic Homemaking in October of 2022\, calling him “The Martha Stewart of Macabre Homemakers” and “a lifestyle guru to people who embrace spookiness in all seasons”. \nGothic Homemaking can be seen at:\nwww.youtube.com/thelairofvoltaire \nAurelio Voltaire’s 13th studio album\, The Black Labyrinth\, is a 20-song musical epic inspired by the 1986 film\, Labyrinth. Voltaire recorded the album with 15 members of David Bowie’s band as well as members of My Chemical Romance\, Trans Siberian Orchestra\, The Gog is Dead\, Vision Video and more! The Black Labyrinth was released on December 16th\, 2022 and will be supported by The King of Villains Tour in 2023.

SUMMARY:KING KURT + Graveyard Rats
DESCRIPTION:KING KURT + Graveyard Rats \n7.30pm Friday 19th May\, Bedford Esquires \nUK Psychobilly Rock Band KING KURT make  welcome return the Bedford Esquires on Friday 19th May \nUnless you really don’t know or have been sleeping under a rock for decades King Kurt are a psychobilly rock band from the UK. They formed in 1981 and although psychobilly pranksters King Kurt are best remembered for “Destination Zululand\,” the rambunctious smash with which they stormed the U.K. chart in 1984\, to recall them purely as one-hit wonders is to decry years of achievement — But even that only begins to tell the band’s story\, for it wasn’t on cold\, impersonal wax that King Kurt were at their blistering\, mystifying best. It was in concert\, where gigs became tribal gatherings\, songs became rockabilly psycho chants\, and haircuts were — well\, let’s just say they were mighty peculiar\, and leave it at that.\nKing Kurt’s reputation has never flagged and\, if anything\, has grown even wilder over the years! \nGuest support come from Graveyard Rats \n*Please note this is NOT a messy gig so you won’t go home covered in flour!* \nTickets priced £18 advance are on sale from Esquires Bar and Slide Records and available from Seetickets from 10am on Monday 6th Feb.

SUMMARY:Miki Berenyi (Lush) - Live set + interview + book signing
DESCRIPTION:Miki Berenyi is a singer\, songwriter and guitarist\, formerly of Lush and Piroshka. Described as ‘an extraordinary life story’ by MOJO Magazine\, her critically acclaimed autobiography\, Fingers Crossed: How Music Saved Me from Success\, tracks the trials and tribulations of being a female singer-songwriter rising to fame in the 90’s. Much more than your average rock autobiography Miki explores with great honesty how music became the route out from a troubled childhood\, marked by neglect\, frequent relocation and abuse. Told through frank confession\, wry humour and emotional honesty\, this is the remarkable\, beautifully told story of a trailblazing woman in an often infuriatingly male world. \n‘Breaks the mould of music memoir’ Guardian \n‘A salutary corrective to a much-mythologised musical era’ Observer \n‘Outstanding’ Record Collector \n‘Utterly engrossing’ Red Magazine \n‘A brilliant and engaging read’ Classic Rock \n‘Intelligent and searingly candid memoir’ Grazia \n‘All other autobiographies should be judged against it’ Louder than War \n‘An extraordinary life story’ MOJO \nThere will be a 30 minute live set by the Miki Berenyi Trio\, followed by an interview and Q’n’A followed by book signing. \nTickets just £10\, limited availability so move fast.

SUMMARY:Bowfinger | Carbon Daydreams | Daybreak
DESCRIPTION:Black Tom Promotions Presents \nA Right Royal Racket \nCome and get your alternative coronation at Esquires as local indie pop legends Bowfinger roll into town.\nBowfinger:\nBowfinger formed in 2000 from the ashes of our old bands\, Brilliant Things and Sheen. We would probably describe ourselves as a power-pop band\, with our influences including all the great stuff from the late 70s\, like The Jam\, Costello\, The clash and 60’s bands such as The Beatles\, The Kinks and The Small faces\, to name just a few. Anyhow\, throw them all in a mix and you have Bowfinger. We have to write songs with hooks and melodies – it’s in our DNA.\nCarbon Daydreams:\nA Bedfordshire based indie rock/pop band. Taking inspiration from 80s and 90s indie and alternative rock to write their own brand of catchy\, high tempo songs. Expect guitar melodies unashamedly influenced by Johnny Marr and intricate\, unexpected bass lines\, which create the context for compelling lyrics\, and disco-inspired rhythms. SUMMARY:BUZZARD BUZZARD BUZZARD
DESCRIPTION:BUZZARD BUZZARD BUZZARD\n+ Guests – Saturday 6th May\n\nBuzzard Buzzard Buzzard return in 2023\, announcing a series of gigs to showcase brand new material. Their show was a recent highlight at Esquires and we’re very pleased to see them return in 2023.\n\nFollowing on from their Welsh Music Prize nominated debut album\, ‘Backhand Deals’ in 2022\, the band have been writing and recording at frontman and producer Tom Rees’s Rat Trap studio\, the room where Rees has previously recorded and produced tracks for emerging talent – Panic Shack\, Do Nothing and The Bug Club.\n\nBuzzard Buzzard Buzzard’s new music takes the fast-paced energy from the band’s debut Non-Stop EP and twists it with a heavier guitar sound which stems from Tom’s teen obsessions with Black Sabbath and The White Stripes. Speaking about both the tour and the new music\, Tom says “Playing new songs is always exciting but these ones are so heavy and loud and relentless playing them live is like drinking adrenochrome or something\, it’s why I live\, I’m very excited”\nStay tuned for more music in March…\n——–\nTickets go on sale Friday 17th February from Seetickets and are also available from Slide Record Shop and Esquires Bar.\n\nThis is a 14+ ages show\, under 16s to be accompanied by an adult.
