SUMMARY:Boombastic 90s
DESCRIPTION:You had a favourite Spice Girl. You picked a side in August ’95\, Blur or Oasis\, and you still stand by it. You knew every word to Don’t Look Back in Anger before you even understood what it meant. \nBOOMBASTIC: ALL OF THE NINETIES is four hours of that. Pop perfection\, Britpop anthems\, dance floor euphoria\, hip-hop swagger\, the whole decade\, played exactly the way it should be. No filler. No apologies. No guilty pleasures\, because in the 90s none of it was guilty. \nThis was the decade that proved genre didn’t matter. You loved TLC and Oasis and Faithless and the Spice Girls all at the same time\, and that was absolutely fine. It still is. \nTickets on sale right now from Eventbrite!

SUMMARY:Martin McAloon of Prefab Sprout
DESCRIPTION:MARTIN McALOON ANNOUNCES STEVE McQUEEN – SLIGHT RETURN UK TOUR \nFollowing the overwhelming response to last year’s celebrated Two Wheels Good tour\, Martin McAloon is hitting the road again this autumn — this time bringing Prefab Sprout’s landmark album Steve McQueen to towns\, cities and venues that the tour didn’t reach first time around. \nSteve McQueen – Slight Return is a joyful acknowledgement of the demand that never quite went away. “Following the national and international success of the Two Wheels Good tour\,” says Martin\, “it seemed right to acknowledge just how many people were asking for more — in places we hadn’t yet reached. I’m buoyed by the reception these songs received\, and I’m thrilled to be taking the album out on the road one last time.” One of the most beloved British records of the 1980s\, Steve McQueen will be performed in full — and that’s just the beginning. As with last year’s shows\, Martin will also be drawing from the wider Prefab Sprout catalogue\, bringing to life as many of his brother Paddy’s songs as the evening will hold. Last year’s repertoire stretched to over thirty songs beyond the album itself. \n“An absolute delight and must-see for any Prefab Sprout fan and a masterclass in how to survive the music business and remain human.” Peter Freeth – At The barrier.com \nThese are evenings for fans old and new: intimate\, warm\, and overflowing with some of the most beautifully crafted pop songs this country has ever produced.\nSteve McQueen – Slight Return | Autumn 2026 | UK Tour \nUnreserved seating and standing – Tickets on sale from Friday 8th May\, 10am at Seetickets

SUMMARY:TV SMITH (The Adverts)
DESCRIPTION:TV SMITH (The Adverts)  – 7:30pm\, Saturday 24th October\, Bedford Esquires \nPleased to announce TV SMITH (The Adverts) calls into Bedford Esquires on Sat 24th Oct for a solo show. \nTV Smith was founder member\, singer and songwriter for the Adverts\, who formed in late 1976\, and were one of the leading bands in the first wave of British punk rock. In early 1977 they performed regularly at the newly-opened Roxy Club in London\, and gained cult success with the Stiff Records single “One Chord Wonders.” Their next release\, “Gary Gilmore’s Eyes” became a top twenty hit record\, leading to radio and TV appearances and extensive media interest. A further single\, “No Time To Be 21\,” also entered the charts\, and the band spent the rest of the year playing live\, including major tours with The Damned and Iggy Pop. The album that followed in early 1978\, “Crossing the Red Sea with the Adverts\,” is still considered a genuine classic of the era and is often cited as one of the twenty best punk albums ever released. \nThe Adverts released one more album\, “Cast Of Thousands\,” before they split in 1979. Slammed by the critics at the time\, the album was later re-released to universal acclaim\, and described by Mojo magazine as “the long lost punk album that rivals The Clash’s ‘London Calling’.” \nImmediately after the break up of The Adverts\, TV formed TV Smith’s Explorers\, who gained a UK chart hit in 1980 with the single “Tomahawk Cruise\,” and released the album “Last Words Of The Great Explorer” a year later. Lack of commercial success led to the band being dropped by their record label and their subsequent split. After a period of intense songwriting TV re-entered the live arena in 1986 with the band Cheap\, before performing his first gigs as a solo artist in the early ’90’s. Since then he has established himself as the leading solo performer of the punk rock scene and has released many albums. He has also been involved in a number of collaborations with other bands\, most notably with German superstars Die Toten Hosen\, who performed as TV’s backing band on the album “Useless.” \nTV released a brand new album entitled “Handwriting” in April 2024 on Easy Action in the UK/USA and the Toten Hosen label JKP/Warners in Europe. Recorded in collaboration with renowned producer and multi-instrumentalist Gerry Diver\, the pair have created a record with a thrilling totally new musical landscape using no conventional rock instruments. TV sings and plays acoustic guitar on twelve of his finest songs to date\, while Gerry backs him up on harmonium\, mandolin\, bouzouki\, banjo\, piano\, tenor guitar\, bass guitar\, percussion…and much more! Critics are already calling it the best album of his career. \nFiercely independent and proudly embodying the original spirit of punk rock\, TV performs as an acoustic solo artist all over the world\, as well as playing occasional gigs with backup bands. Over the past few years he has supported Stiff Little Fingers\, the Damned and Ruts DC on major tours in the UK\, and played headline tours throughout UK\, Europe\, the U.S.A and Japan. In 2025 he embarked on a world tour taking in 12 countries including the UK\, Germany\, Switzerland\, Finland\, Ireland\, Brazil\, Argentina\, Uruguay and North America. \nTickets are on sale from Seetickets from Thursday 5th March and from local outlets from the 10th March

SUMMARY:Damian Lewis
DESCRIPTION:Damian Lewis + guests \nEsquires\, Bedford\, Saturday 24th October \nDamian Lewis released his acclaimed debut album Mission Creep in 2023\, earning praise for its soulful vocals\, rich instrumentation\, and emotional honesty. Hailed by critics as “beautifully written and performed” (Line Of Best Fit) and “a warm\, rich debut\,” (Financial Times) the record marked him as a genuine new voice in British music and established Lewis as a songwriter with something urgent and real to say. Sweet Chaos is the album that follows from a place of hard-won clarity. Written two years on\, it is bolder\, broader\, and at times more raw. \n“The first album was quiet and tender\,” Lewis says. “This new album is a bit angrier in places. You don’t know these things until you listen back: the extent to which your state of mind pervades the thing.” A BAFTA\, Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actor\, Lewis first honed his musical instincts busking across Europe in his youth – an experience that informs the raw authenticity of his work. He quickly proved his strength as a live performer\, winning acclaim for his charismatic stage presence and selling out venues across the UK\, alongside festival appearances including Latitude\, Wilderness\, Black Deer and the EFG London Jazz Festival \nHis music draws from the rich textures of Americana\, blues\, and folk\, with a storyteller’s instinct guiding every lyric. Damian has played the classical guitar since he was 13-years-old. Quickly though\, suspecting that he might be the “Second Elvis\,” he graduated to the steel string acoustic so that he could sing Elvis in the mirror without fear of interruption. Busking in London and continental Europe through his early twenties\, the rent money started coming in from acting and the guitar was parked up as a hobby until the time of CoVid lockdown and quarantine. The busking experience has stayed with Damian ever since and is reflected in his debut album ‘Mission Creep’. His band serve jazz roots with a bluesy sound and the album is described as a thoughtful collection of rootsy\, rock and jazz-tinged songs that reveal a deep love of music and a deep need to communicate. \nTickets on general sale from 10am on Friday 29th May.

SUMMARY:The Battery Farm + Broken Castles + T.R.A.T.S
DESCRIPTION:Saturday 7th November \nReturning to Esquires after their rousing mosh-starting afternoon set at the Big Special all-dayer in 2026\, this gutter-punk four-piece bring the noise. And the hooks. The Battery Farm formed out of the ashes of The Madding Crowd\, The Corry brothers\, Ben and Dominic\, were at the heart of the band\, but beset by constantly shifting line ups and maybe a sense that the direction the band was heading in didn’t feel quite right\, they swiftly re-emerged as The Battery Farm\, a decision that saw them unleash a very different soundtrack into an unsuspecting world. Whilst elements of The Madding Crowd‘s DNA are still present\, the beast that rose from the remains was a very different one\, a cathartic primal howl that rages against the injustice and inequality in the world\, something that is amplified in their live performances. \n  \nSupport from :- \nBroken Castles who offer a brutal delivery of distorted groove-laden heavy-ass rock n roll. Forged in the fires of a Golden Era. This is music for the Broken Age. \nT.R.A.T.S – Described as indie sleaze meets punk after a night out with a metal band by a drunk bloke. \nTickets on sale now

SUMMARY:THE WANNADIES + guests
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to confirm that THE WANNADIES will be appearing at Esquires on Wednesday the 11th of November 2026\, one of only a handful of dates for the band. \nFormed in 1988 in the Northern Swedish town of Skellefteå\, the Wannadies\, along with The Cardigans and The Hives\, were a key part of the Swedish indie scene that took the world by storm in the nineties. \nDuring that decade they released numerous power pop classics such as ‘Might be Stars’\, ‘How Does it Feel’\, “Hit’\, ’Someone Somewhere’ ‘Shorty’ from a succession of brilliantly melodic albums\, but are perhaps still best known for the utterly fantastic ‘You and Me Song’\, (76 million Spotify plays and counting!). Featuring on the massive soundtrack to Baz Lurhmann’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’\, It’s an anthem to unending love which has been the ‘first dance’ song of choice for thousands of couples who probably first met at their local indie disco. Perhaps even Esquires! \nReforming in 2016 with all five original members and still playing to huge crowds in Europe\, we are absolutely delighted to be hosting The Wannadies for a rare and intimate UK show. \nTickets are £25 in advance\, on sale from 10am Friday the 20th March from Seetickets and from Slide Record Shop / Esquires (with no booking fees). Booking early for this one is advised! \nIn association with Arts Council England\, a very limited number of ‘Art is for Everyone’ tickets will be available for just £10 from Seetickets to those on a low income or to anyone under the age of 25\, regardless of their financial situation.

SUMMARY:The Cain Pit & guests
DESCRIPTION:Straight outta Norwich\, The Cain Pit are the loudest\, weirdest thing to crawl out of the English countryside since someone tried to put mustard in tea. Delivering an electric blend of bluegrass\, punk\, and rockabilly\, they’re not to be missed. \nBorn during what we were pretty sure was the end of the world\, the band started as a studio project between cousins Daryl Blyth (vocals\, double bass) and Scott Blyth (guitar). When the apocalypse inconveniently didn’t happen they figured they might as well make a real band out of it—people seemed to like the demos\, and they were longing for human interaction at the time. After a year of false starts\, questionable life choices\, and several pints of creative inspiration\, they finally roped in the finest hillbilly punks Norwich had to offer: Isaac Crass (banjo)\, Joe Halliday (acoustic guitar\, harmonica)\, and Jamie Tritton (drums). \nThe Cain Pit mash up the energy of punk rock with the twangy heart of bluegrass\, a pinch of rockabilly and other rootsy nonsense. Imagine a bluegrass band that discovered distortion pedals—or a punk band that fell into a hay bale rolled down an hill and splashed into the Norfolk Broads—and you’re getting close. They like to think they’re bridging the gap between genres… though it’s more like they built the bridge\, set it on fire\, and are now gleefully dancing in the ashes\, hollering sugar-coated melodies with crunchy\, bitter centres.

SUMMARY:The Early Years & Sennen
DESCRIPTION:Delighted to be one of the handful of venues who will be hosting a very special co-headline show by The Early Years and Sennen later this year. \nNow reunited as labelmates on the always brilliant Sonic Cathedral records\, both bands grew out of the shoegaze adjacent scene of the early 2000s – the former more influenced by krautrock and drone\, the latter combining post-rock and harmonies – but they’ve both been silent for the best part of a decade. Until now.
 \n
The Early Years released their long-awaited third album\, Modern Moonlight\, at the end of May to great acclaim\, while Sennen are also gearing up to share their first new material in over a decade. \nThe Early Years formed in East London in 2005 and have released three albums\, each ten years apart: 2006’s self-titled debut for Beggars Banquet\, 2016’s II\, named as one of Uncut’s Greatest Albums of the 2010s\, and this year’s long-awaited Modern Moonlight. They’ve been remixed by the late\, great Andrew Weatherall\, praised by Brian Eno and toured with RIDE. Their live shows are the stuff of legend\, and this small run of dates will be their first for over EIGHT YEARS!.

 \nPraise for Modern Moonlight:

“Rich productions that channel Joy Division\, A Certain Ratio and shimmering\, DFA-style grooves. A multi-layered treat\, and their finest album yet”  – Electronic Sound

\n“The band’s one-album-per-decade output rate may be lamentable\, but at least The Early Years compensate for their ack of productivity with a firm handle on quality control” – Uncut \nSennen formed in Norwich in 2002 and released their hugely acclaimed debut album Widows in 2005. Its blend of post-rock soundscapes and Teenage Fanclub harmonies made it stand out\, and they went on to release another four albums\, including the classic ‘Where the Light Gets In’ and tour extensively over the following years. Their most recent album was 2016’s First Light\, but other than three dates to promote a reissue of Widows in 2021 they’ve not toured since.

 \nPraise for Widows:

“Fuses post-rock time signatures with the ethereal beauty of early Ride or Chapterhouse” – Under The Radar
\n“One of the best shoegaze records of all time” – Resident Music \nTickets are a mere £12.50 in advance – available NOW from Seetickets. Futhermore\, if you are under the age of 25\, on a low income or struggling with increases in the cost of living\, you can pick up an ‘Art is for Everyone’ ticket for just £5. Link below.

SUMMARY:corto.alto
DESCRIPTION:corto.alto + Guests \n7:30pm – Saturday 21st November\, Bedford Esquires \ncorto.alto – AKA multi-instrumentalist producer\, composer and performer Liam Shortall – announces his EU and UK tour in Autumn 2026. \nHaving closed 2025 with a win for ‘Breakthrough Artist’ at the AIM Awards in London\, and a triumphant sold-out show at the legendary KOKO in London\, Shortall and the corto.alto live band have continued to tour throughout 2026\, with over 40 shows in the US and EU in the Spring\,  and more US and Canada shows later this year\, as well as festival appearances at We Out Here\, WOMAD\, Montreal Jazz Fest and many more. \nIn parallel\, the band has been releasing new music \, ‘WHODIS’ in collaboration with legendary Chicago rapper Mick Jenkins\, as well as their brand new single ‘THIEF’ out on the 12th of May\, continuing to showcase the new frontier of corto.alto’s music. \nWith new material on the horizon\, the band will further consolidate their reputation as one of the best live bands around with a run of headline shows across Europe and the UK in Oct and Nov 2026. \nIt’s been an intense but rewarding few years for Shortall and his corto.alto project (the stage name a nod to his Irish-Spanish heritage\, translating as “short.tall” in Spanish). The release of his debut album ‘Bad With Names’ saw him nominated for the 2024 Mercury Music Prize – alongside fellow Scot and now label-mate Barry Can’t Swim and the likes of Charli xcx\, Ghetts\, Beth Gibbons (Portishead)\, Nia Archives\, CMAT and more – and saw him booked to play hundreds of shows across the world\, including \nhigh-profile festival performances and a sold-out UK tour that featured his ownpersonally curated 2000-capacity “Made In Glasgow” mini-festival at the city’s legendary Barrowlands Ballroom venue. \nThe music he makes as corto.alto is never easily categorised. It leans as much on his formal studies at the prestigious Royal Conservatoire of Scotland\, as on his time spent as part of the burgeoning and fertile music scene in Glasgow; incorporating an eclectic mix of influences that draw as much on his affinity with club-culture and all its forms of Electronic Music\, or to his love of classic Hip-Hop\, Soul and Funk. \nHis 2024 album ‘30/108’ saw him freely blend genre\, tempo and instrumentation across 30 tracks – one released each day of the month\, drawn from a pool of 108 demos and accompanied by live performance videos – showcasing his flair for fast-thinking creativity\, innovation and improvisation over a more rigid studio approach. Exploring the fertile ground between live instrumentation and electronic productions and sound design is also a cornerstone of corto.alto’s blistering live shows that – along with handling bass\, synth\, trombone and effects – sees him turn band-leader\, amongst his crew of hyper-talented musicians; all close friends and frequent collaborators. \nIt’s this fresh outlook and a hunger to subvert expectations that sets Shortall apart\, winning him a new generation of music fans unbeholden to any one scene\, alongside champions across radio and media like Gilles Peterson\, Sian Eleri\, Jamz Supernova\, Deb Grant\, KCRW and many more. \n——– \nTickets are £20 advance\, on sale from 11am\, Friday 15th May from Seetickets and local outlets.\nOnline link : https://www.seetickets.com/event/corto-alto/bedford-esquires/3638311

SUMMARY:Scott Lavene
DESCRIPTION:Scott Lavene – 7:30pm Saturday 28th November\, Bedford Esquires\n\nScott Lavene is a British singer-songwriter and storyteller whose work blends kitchen-sink realism with dark humour\, poetic grit\, and a distinctly English sense of place. Emerging from Essex\, Lavene has carved out a niche as a chronicler of the overlooked; his songs populated by down-and-outs\, late-night wanderers\, and small-town dreamers.\n\nLavene first began to gather attention in the late 2010s with early releases that showcased his knack for vivid character sketches and bleakly comic observation. His debut album Broke (2019) introduced listeners to his stark\, narrative-driven songwriting\, earning praise for its honesty and literary quality. Follow-up records such as Milk City Sweethearts (2021) and Disneyland in Dagenham (2023) expanded his reputation\, refining his sound while maintaining the raw emotional core that defines his work.\n\nHis music is often compared to a lineage of British storytellers\, Ian Dury\, Elvis Costello\, John Cooper Clarke\, Jarvis Cocker and Robyn Hitchcock but\, even so\, Lavene’s voice remains singular. He has a gift for balancing melancholy with wit\, finding beauty and absurdity in the mundane corners of modern life.\n\nOn stage\, Lavene’s performances are intimate and magnetic\, driven as much by his narrative delivery as by melody. Whether backed by a full band or performing solo\, he creates a sense of closeness that draws audiences into his world.

SUMMARY:Skids & Theatre of Hate
DESCRIPTION:SKIDS / THEATRE OF HATE – Co Headline Tour \n7pm Weds 2nd December\, Esquires\, Bedford \nTwo era defining artists SKIDS & THEATRE OF HATE come together this autumn for an explosive UK co-headline tour. \nSKIDS \nThe Skids formed in 1977 in their hometown of Dunfermline\, Scotland by Richard Jobson\, Stuart Adamson\, Bill Simpson & Tom Kellichan. After releasing an independent single the band were played by John Peel\, supported The Clash in concert and then were signed to Virgin Records in 1978. Their first singles were “Sweet Surburbia”\, “The Saints are Coming” and “Into the Valley” – the latter reaching the UK Top Ten in early 1979. \nTheir seminal debut album “Scared to Dance” came out in 1979 which was quickly followed by two chart singles – “Masquerade” and “Working for the Yankee Dollar”. Both singles were taken from the Bill Nelson produced second album “Days in Europa”. The album also featured new member Rusty Egan of Rich Kids & Visage fame after the departure of Tom Kellichan. The band released two more albums “The Absolute Game” (1980) and “Joy” (1981) before splitting. \nThe current Skids line up see’s the lineup stripped back to an explosive 4 piece with Richard Jobson\, Peter Byrchmore (Membranes)\, Hernandez (Drums) & Connor Whyte (Guitar). \nTHEATRE OF HATE \nIn 1980\, Kirk Brandon formed THEATRE OF HATE from the ashes of heralded punk band The Pack. Joining Kirk on vocals were notable punk musicians Stan Stammers and Luke Rendall\, along with old school friend\, Steve Guthrie and Canadian born John “Boy” Lennard\, who revolutionised the band’s sound with his haunting sax lines. \nTheatre Of Hate’s debut double-A-side single\, “Legion”/”Original Sin”\, topped the independent chart in 1980\, and “Westworld”\, their debut album\, produced by Mick Jones from The Clash and released in 1982\, held the number one position for 21 weeks. The single taken from the album\, “Do You Believe In The West- world?” has become an anthem and is still widely played in clubs and on international radio\, as well as featuring on numerous compilation albums. \nTheatre Of Hate imploded in 1982\, with Kirk taking Stan forward to form Spear Of Destiny\, but the band has resurfaced over the years to play some very special shows across the UK\, Europe and the USA. \nThe band now have a settled line up of Kirk Brandon\, Stan Stammers\, Chris Bell & Clive Osborne who astound their loyal fanbase with high-octane live shows featuring new songs and classics from their back catalogue. \nThe tour which will also include some Irish and European dates later down the line will include venues around the UK of various sizes including some of the classic small grassroots clubs that form the backbone of the UK touring circuit. \nTickets priced £30 are on sale from Fri 5th June

SUMMARY:My Life Story
DESCRIPTION:My Life Story bring their lush\, orchestral Britpop drama back to Bedford Esquires on Friday 4th December\, led as ever by charismatic frontman Jake Shillingford. Formed in London and rising to prominence in the mid‑to‑late ’90s\, the band carved out a distinctive niche with their sweeping arrangements and chamber‑pop ambition\, blending pop\, electropop and dance‑rock with a theatrical flair. \nMy Life Story have always stood slightly apart from their Britpop peers — more orchestral\, more dramatic\, more willing to lean into grandeur. Their return to stages in recent years has been met with enthusiasm from long‑time fans and new listeners discovering their catalogue through reissues and fresh releases. They continue to be a huge favourite on the live circuit with their flamboyant shows and loyal following. \nThe band scored 6 Top 40 hits\, including 12 Reasons Why I Love Her\, Sparkle and It’s a Girl Thing\, described by Melody Maker at the time as: “Satisfying escapism. Taking life’s mundanities and making them magical.” While Smash Hits said: “12 Reasons Why” is the best pop single of last year not to feature the Spice Girls.”\nThis concert is a great opportunity to hear fan favourite tracks from Joined Up Talking\, some of which haven’t been heard live for over 2 decades as well as a greatest hits set.\nThe band collaborated with a number of artists\, notably Marc Almond\, The Specials\, Giles Martin\, Morrissey & Siouxsie Sioux. Jake even recorded Adele when she was just 11 years old.

SUMMARY:Aircooled + Guests.
DESCRIPTION:Aircooled will be making their Esquires debut on Saturday 12th December 2026! \nAircooled pull off the rare trick of making music that thrills ravers as much as it does heads. From warm\, enveloping kraut-rock to spiralling\, glossy space odysseys and pure-hearted pop\, it’s disco music for smart people\, party music for retired ravers. \nTheir first album was met with near-instant acclaim\, with Metro describing it as “Wild and wiggy… deeply groovy”\, and earned them support slots with the likes of Suede\, The Wonder Stuff and The Jesus and Mary Chain. \nTheir third album ‘My God it’s Full of Stars!’ is due to be released on the 3rd of April 2026 and represents another quantum leap for the band\, with big songs to fill big (and small) venues. There are songs about the gentrification of St Leonards (‘Idiots’)\, 17th-century German astronomers (‘Kepler’)\, and ‘Delirious’\, an unashamedly disco remembrance of all things hedonistic. It’s epic\, ambitious\, heartfelt\, yet still packed with songs for dancing feet. \nThis is the album that should just send Aircooled into the stars. \n“The children of motoric Kraut-rock. Kosmische. Exciting\, pulsating music for both the dance floor and extended listening at home.” \nTickets on sale now from Seetickets.\n——————————————————————————\nIn association with Arts Council England a limited number of ‘Art is for Everyone’ tickets are available for just £5 from Seetickets to those on a low income or struggling with increases in the cost of living. These tickets are also available to anyone under the age of 25\, regardless of their financial situation.
