DESCRIPTION:GAYE BYKERS ON ACID + Daemonik Fonce \n7:30pm Friday 6th September\, Esquires\, Bedford  \nGBOA \, the psychedelic electro punk pop ‘grebo’ combo from LA & the Leicester Area are coming to Bedford Esquires for the very first time on Friday 6th September. \nGaye Bykers on Acid were formed in late 1984 by Ian Reynolds (Robber) and Ian Hoxley (Mary). They were later joined by guitarist and art student Tony Horsfall and drummer Kevin Hyde. Their first gig was at The Princess Charlotte in Leicester in mid-1985. \nTheir first releases – the single Everythang’s Groovy and the Nosedive Karma EP – were both recorded in Leeds with Jon Langford of The Mekons\, and released on the InTape label. They then signed to Virgin Records releasing the albums Drill Your Own Hole and Stewed to the Gills. Initial quantities of the vinyl version of Drill Your Own Hole were pressed without a hole in the centre\, so it was necessary to drill your own hole to play it. The album spent one week at number 95 in the UK Albums Chart in November 1987. \nThey also played gigs (dressed in women’s clothing) under the name ‘Lesbian Dopeheads on Mopeds’\, supporting themselves\, and thus getting paid twice. They also performed as a fictitious East German thrash punk band “Rektüm” (they claimed to have jumped over the Berlin Wall)\, recording an LP Sakredanus and an EP Real Horror Show under the name. \nHowever management problems and poor sales meant that they were dropped by Virgin in 1989. They subsequently released the album Cancer Planet Mission on their own record label\, Naked Brain. They also recycled and used the band name ‘The Purple Fluid Exchange’ (PFX) to release their dance cross-over material. It was at this time that Rocket Ronnie joined the band as DJ\, sample player and dance advisor. \nIn 1990 they released Pernicious Nonsense\, their last studio album\, recorded with Jon Langford at the Stone Room Studios and at Alaska St. Studios with house engineer Chelo Zambelli. After difficult tours in the US and UK the band broke up\, the final blow being when the label Rough Trade\, who distributed their Naked Brain recordings\, went bankrupt owing them and many other bands considerable amounts of cash. \nTwo compilation albums were subsequently released on the Receiver record label\, From the Tomb of the Near Legendary… (1992) and Gaye Bykers on Acid (1993). A further bootleg compilation of Virgin records studio demo’s was sold by their ex-manager (Tracy Lamott) to Cherry Red Records – Everything’s Groovy (2001). \nTony and Kev collaborated in 1993 to form ‘Steroid’\, releasing a CD album entitled “Jism Harvester” on Clay Records\, a crazy industrial mish mash of samples and guitar riffs. 25 years later they followed it up with “Scrotox Ulcer” in May 2018 and “Baptising The Alien” in September 2018. \nOn 22 February 2016\, it was announced that Gaye Bykers on Acid would be reforming for a final performance at Indie Daze in October 2016 however the band have continued to tour with Mary Byker spending time between big GBOA and Pop Will Eat Itself\, 2 bands\, 1 great frontman. \nGuest support comes from Daemonik Fonce. \nTickets priced £18 are on sale from Seetickets from Thursday 29th September and person from Slide Record Shop and Esquires Bar.

DESCRIPTION:THE POLECATS + The Kopy Katz \n7:30pm Bank Holiday Sunday\, 25th August\, Bedford Esquires \nThe Polecats began life in the late 1970’s as The Cult Heroes\, playing youth clubs in the Mill Hill area of north London with Tim Polecat and Boz Boorer on guitar\, Phil Bloomberg on bass and Chris Hawkes on drums. Boz and Phil shared vocals at the time.With a change of Drummer from Chris to Neil Rooney and with Tim now on Vocals\, the Polecats were born. \nThe band released their first single “Rockabilly Guy” on Nervous Records and were soon signed to major record label\, Phonogram. \nWith the release of their first album “Polecats are Go” in 1981\, they established themselves as one of the most exiting rockin’ bands around. \nThe album was followed by UK top 30 hit singles\, “John I’m only dancing”\, a re-recording of “Rockabilly Guy” and “Jeepster”. \nIn Early 1982\, The Polecats released the hit single “Make a Circuit with me” and replaced Neil Rooney with Poorboys drummer\, John Buck. \nAfter a brief “lay off” between 1985 and 1988\, The Polecats have continued to gig throughout the world playing regularly in Europe\, Japan and the USA. \nDuring the early 90’s they released 2 albums for Japanese label Vinyl Japan\, “Won’t Die” and “Nine”. \nAnd in 1994 the now rare “White Devils”\, inspired by a name given to the band in Japan\, was released. \nThe US/UK top 30 single “Make a Circuit” was used and part of the promo for Disney movie “Wall-E” and in the US sit-com “Glory Daze” \nTim now lives in Palm Springs and Boz spends most of his time at hi studio in Portugal\, but both keep close ties with Mill Hill. \nTim and Phil wrote the score for the 2010 movie “Isle of Dogs”\, which also features a role for John Buck. \nNow in their 47rd year\, The Polecats are rockin’ strong. \nThe line up\, unchanged since 1982\, featuring Boz Boorer\, Phil Bloomberg\, John Buck and Tim Polecat\, still perform their UK chart hits “Rockabilly Guy”\, John I’m only dancing”\, Jeepster” and “Make a circuit with me” along with tracks from their 4 studio albums and new CD EP Crepe Soul. \nGuest support comes The Kopy Katz. \nThey Kopy Katz are a wild\, high-octane live 3-piece band (guitar\, drums & double bass) that play originals and cover songs by The Stray Cats plus classic 1950’s rockers and they even apply their own unique rockabilly sound to songs by T.Rex\, Rolling Stones\, Billy Idol & others for something a little different.
