DESCRIPTION:Join us on the 78th anniversary of David Bowie’s birth to celebrate his life in music… The very best of Bedford’s local musicians play tribute to the Starman.\n\nThis is the ONLY way to start the New Year!\n\nWhat is BowieJam like?\n\n\nThe BowieJam is a unique jam night event at Esquires\, in that you can show up with your guitar\, bass\, drumsticks\, voice and make some music.\n\nWhere it is different is that it has a theme and a little more structure to it. David Bowie released 26 studio albums between 1967 – 2016 but\, without a guiding hand\, we could end up with Ziggy Stardust twenty times.\n\nWe have a house band called Weird & Gilly who are on hand to support anyone who needs us. If you want to play guitar but need backing\, we are there to help. I ask that anyone wanting to come and play a specific song email Charly (The Host) at porcelainwhite@gmail.com so that we can get you on the list and make sure we have your tune rehearsed. (with song requests\, the catalogue is big enough not to repeat songs if you are up for it!) There will be local bands coming along to do their versions of David Bowie hits – some will be faithful covers\, others personal renditions.\n\n\nWe will also again be raising money for Bedford Daycare Hospice in his name

DESCRIPTION:The Ouse Valley Singles Club‘Traditional First Gig Of The Year’\n7.30pm Saturday 4th January\, Bedford Esquires\nKeeping up traditions of years gone by The Ouse Valley Singles Club return to the main stage at Bedford Esquires to play what has become their ‘Traditional First Gig Of The Year’.\n\nIf you are not familiar with The Ouse Valley Singles Club or have yet to catch their live show then you are in for a treat. They are one of\, if not the\, most original outfits currently playing the live circuit.\nFully self-promoted with the aid of their online videos and huge social media presence\, the Ouse Valley Singles Club are one of the hardest working bands around\, having gigged almost every weekend over the last 10 years honing their craft and building a massive following of loyal Fans as they go.\n\nInfluenced by the long forgotten sounds & traditions of 1950’s Skiffle (Google it) they combine this sound with the energy of Punk and the swing of Rock and Roll\, whilst occasionally dropping some Reggae flavour into the mix. Then layering this with hilarious Folk-like story-telling\, often crossing the parameters of what is deemed to be politically correct but keeping it very tongue in cheek. In doing this\, they have created a truly original & highly entertaining sound that has been dubbed “New Wave Skiffle” and they have been described as ‘George Formby meets The Clash’ where Vaudeville music Hall meets Working Men’s club.\nThe scourge of the Metropolitan Liberal Elite’ The OVSC put on a show that gives a hysterical observational account of everyday tales of woe with a razor-sharp observational narrative whilst rocking the crowds with their infectious ear-worms.\n\nHaving packed out the main arena’s to capacity\, they have headlined Peterborough Beer Festival and opened to several thousand revellers on the main stage at Bedford’s River Festival (second largest free festival in the UK) as well as being a regular feature at events such as Cambridge’s Strawberry Fair\, The OVSC are no strangers to the Festival Circuit. Festivals they have performed at are; Boomtown\, Bestival\, Rhythmtree\, Nozstock\, Mosley Folk and Lunar Festival\, Truckfest\, Rhythms of The World festival\, Lodestar\, Henry’s Little Big Gig\, Harlequin Festival\, Maui Waui\, Green Meadows and Glastonbudget among many others.\nHighlights of their musical journey came when they supported luminaries Chas and Dave on their 2014 tour\, warmed up for Sir Bob Geldolf and The Boomtown Rats in the main arena at the Great British Alternative Music Weekender at Butlin’s Skegness as well as providing warm up for the likes of Pete Docherty\, The Wonderstuff and the poetical musical comedy genius KATG. We can finally\, happily say that we are bringing Mr. Scruff to Bedford Esquires in December\, for a mammoth\, 5 hour set!\n\nManchester-based Mr. Scruff is a producer\, cartoonist and cross-genre selector who loves to play long DJ sets\, and occasionally B2B sets with similarly wide-eared end excitable DJs. He has been DJing since 1984\, and has been getting paid for it since 1994. His DJ sets can range from deep soul/funk/reggae/afro/jazz /latin/hip-hop to harder edged electro/house/new wave/techno /electronic all knitted together with supreme technical skill and a keen sense of fun.\n\nA sound obsessive who likes to get in the venue early to set up and sound check\, he brings his mixer\, effects\, vinyl (unless he is playing upside down on a windy boat)\, cables\, a sound engineer and some boiled eggs. Sometimes he brings VJ Jim or MC Kwasi. He usually brings socks\, but occasionally forgets. DESCRIPTION:New Show! \nOn Friday the 6th of December we welcome WHITE TOWN to Esquires for a very rare full band appearance. \nWhite Town is the pseudonym for musician / producer Joyti Prakash Mishra and are most known for the 1997 worldwide hit single ‘Your Woman’. The track\, which was recorded in Joyti’s bedroom\, reached number 1 in the charts in the UK\, Spain and Iceland after being championed by Radio 1 DJs Mark Radcliffe and Mark Riley. With its trumpet hook\, shuffling drum beat and plaintive lyrics\, it was subsequently sampled by Dua Lipa for her song ‘Love Again’. Their debut album ‘Woman in Technology’ is now recognised as a DIY indie pop classic which was an influence on the bands like The Magnetic Fields. \nAlthough still a prolific recording act\, White Town do very few live shows\, so we delighted to welcome them to Esquires for the very first time. \nTickets on sale now priced £12. \nIn association with Arts Council England\, a limited number of tickets are available for just £5 to those on a low income or struggling with increases in the cost of living.

DESCRIPTION:SETH LAKEMANThursday 05 DecemberEsquires Bedford\n\nWe are very pleased to be bringing the excellent Seth Lakeman back to Bedford for the first time in over a decade\, when he last made an appearance for us at The Corn Exchange\, way back in 2013. The Westcountry folk singer and multi-instrumentalist is celebrating the 20th Anniversary of his album Kitty Jay and comes to us as part of a super-intimate run of dates this December.\n\nSeth was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 2005 for Kitty Jay. His thrilling solo performance of the eponymous title track on live television won him unanimous praise and started him on an incredible solo journey which has included record deals\, 11 album releases (including 6 Top 40)\, BBC Radio 2 playlisted singles\, a clutch of awards and touring all over the world.\n\nHe was delighted to be asked in late 2022 to record on Van Morrison’s new album ‘Moving On Skiffle’ which was released in 2023 and he also collaborated with Public Service Broadcasting that year. He has previously worked and toured extensively with Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) with his band the Sensational Space Shifters.\n\nSeth released his latest and 11th studio album Make Your Mark in November 2021 and in 2023 Seth released the ten-track album ‘The Somerset Sessions’ which features original\, unreleased session recordings with Seth featuring Ethan Johns and other guest musicians in Frome. Bringing it up to date with a touch of neo soul\, jazz funk\, and Lo-Fi influences. \n​ \nThe electric Fender Rhodes piano is the signature sound from the Motown era\, and that’s what we love.  Add a bit of vintage snap\, crackle and pop … and hey presto\, you got the Dirty Rhodes Band. \n\nOur repertoire includes classic Motown tracks from the likes of Stevie Wonder\, Bill Withers\, Marvin Gaye and Al Green.  There’s also more modern influences from artists such as D’Angelo\, Lenny Kravitz\, Jamiroquai and Mamas Gun.  It’s pretty varied. \n​ \nLet’s be clear though\, the Dirty Rhodes Band ain’t no bog standard ‘covers band’; we choose the tracks we think are great\, then we like to bring our own particular vibe to them. \n​
