SUMMARY:bdrmm + guests
DESCRIPTION:bdrmm + guests – Thursday 23 November\nEsquires Bedford\n\nbdrmm are a four-piece band based in Hull and Leeds.\nMusically\, there are nods to The Cure\, Deerhunter and DIIV\,while the band reference RIDE and Radiohead. There are also echoes of krautrock and post-punk\, from The Chameleons to Protomartyr\, plus the proto-shoegaze of the Pale Saints’ ‘The Comforts Of Madness’.\n\nAfter forming in 2016\, the band played incessantly\, supporting the likes of Fat White Family\, Her’s and Viagra Boys. Word of mouth about the band’s live shows quickly grew and their early releases were covered by the likes of So Young and The Line Of Best Fit. When Steve Lamacq played them on his late-night Recommends show on BBC Radio 6 Music\, Sonic Cathedral were listening. The label reissued the early single ‘C:U’ on a 7” as part of their Singles Club and followed it with the compilation EP\, ‘If Not\, When?’\, both of which sold out and won over legions of new fans – not least Lauren Laverne\, Huw Stephens and John Kennedy.\n\nThey recorded their critically acclaimed and almost selftitled 10-track debut album ‘Bedroom’ at the end of 2019 at The Nave studio in Leeds with Alex Greaves (Working Mens Club\, Bo Ningen) and it was mastered in Brooklyn by Heba Kadry (Slowdive\, Beach House). Released in July\, 2020\, it was a hugely accomplished debut and a real step up from their early singles\, both sonically and lyrically; words such as “It’s not that I didn’t try and keep my shit together / This whole ordeal just took over” (from the song ‘Gush’) just seemed to fit perfectly with the times and spoke to a pandemic-weary crowd.\n\nAs a result\, ‘Bedroom’ became one of the underground hits of lockdown\, according to The Guardian\, with rave reviews everywhere from blogs to broadsheets. After racking up plays\, selling out pressing after pressing and entering the Official UK Charts on three separate occasions\, it ended up in Rough Trade’s Top 10 albums of 2020.\n\n“A modern day shoegaze classic” – NME\n\n“Elements of Slowdive\, The Cure\, The Jesus And Mary Chain and Ride all wrapped up in delicious bittersweet melancholy of shoegaze and wanderlust” – Louder Than War\n\n“Manna for fans of inventive happy-sad ’80s guitar pop” – MOJO\n\n“Takes in krautrock\, shoegaze and lo-fi indie-pop but always with a soft\, warm edge” – Uncut\n————–\nTickets on sale Wednesday 8th February from Seetickets\, Slide Record Shop and Esquires Bar\n\nThis is a 14+ ages show\, under 16s to be accompanied by an adult\n\nFull support line up TBA

SUMMARY:TOM A. SMITH + Wax-Tree-Cast + Tom Abisgold
DESCRIPTION:TOM A. SMITH + Guests\n7:30pm Friday 17th November\, Bedford Esquires\n\n“Meet Tom A Smith\, now the wizened old age of 18\, the indie-rock singer who is destined for great things…He makes sparkling\, crunching indie-rock with the soul and melody of great pop tunes\, present in tracks like Man Overboard and Could I Live With Being Fake. And the greatest thing about it all? The best is yet to come.” – OFFICIAL CHARTS – ONE TO WATCH\n\nAfter returning earlier this year to deliver his new single “Little Bits”\, which has since been supported by the likes of BBC Radio 1\, Radio X\, Apple Music and many more\, fast-rising Sunderland artist Tom A. Smith now looks to showcase his hometown with the track’s new video.\nFilmed between two of Sunderland’s most illustrious venues\, The Fire Station and Independent Sunderland\, the new visuals for “Little Bits” not only give us a taste of Smith’s vibrant on-stage energy\, but also showcase the electrifying ambience of grassroots venues in his hometown.\nSpeaking about the new video\, he said\, “I wanted to show what Sunderland had to offer so filming at two music venues The Fire Station and local grassroots venue Independent was really important to me. I think we’ve captured a load of the energy of a live performance too”\n\nTom’s picked up some great One To Watch in 2023 nods including BBC Introducing North East\, Matt Wilkinson at Apple Music\, the Daily Star who exclaimed – “Guitar music is back\, alive and kicking with the likes of Sam Fender and Tom A Smith keeping it alive. Smith’s work so far has seen quality riffs\, great vocal qualities and a strength in sound\, scope and style that should hopefully steer him up the rising ranks. There is clear direction for his music and with a slot on BBC Music already\, Smith could be seeing that rise flare up sooner rather than later. His work is tremendous\, and the best place to start is Dragonfly.” and THIS FEELING’s Big in 2023 picks for GIGWISE who said Tom has ““Achieved more at 18 than most do in a lifetime\, and he’s just getting started. An exceptional talent and human being.”\n\n“Little Bits” follows an incredible whirlwind of live performances last year\, including being selected by Elton John to join him at his British Summer Time show at Hyde Park\, appearances at Glastonbury\, Barn On The Farm\, F1 British Grand Prix at Silverstone\, and opening Leeds Festival to more than 6000 music fans. He was also announced as Apple Music’s Up Next artist for September and Amazon Music’s Breakthrough Artist of the month.\n\nHaving already played a ton of gigs throughout the last two years\, including supporting Courteeners\, Miles Kane\, Martha Hill\, Vistas\, Blondes\, The Pale White\, Eliza and The Bear\, Gang of Youths\, and Sunset Sons\, as well as shows at The Great Escape and Neighbourhood Weekender\, Tom A. Smith looks set to continue his busy live schedule throughout 2023 as well.\n\nSupport comes from Wax-Tree-Cast + Tom Abisgold\n\nTickets on sale exclusively to Seetickets priced £10 advance

SUMMARY:INSPIRAL CARPETS + Greenhouse
DESCRIPTION:INSPIRAL CARPETS + Guests\n7.30pm\, Thursday 16th November\, Esquires\, Bedford. \nVery pleased to announce that INSPIRAL CARPETS will be calling into Bedford Esquires on Thursday 16th November for a very special warm up show for the ‘Shiiine On’ Festival. \nA vital component of the infamous ‘Madchester’ movement\, Inspiral Carpets formed in Oldham in 1980. Known for hit singles such as ‘This Is How It Feels’\, ‘Saturn 5’ and ‘She Comes in the Fall’\, they remain much-loved not only in Manchester but across the UK. \nFollowing the tragic loss of their close friend and drummer\, Craig Gill the band went on an indefinite hiatus in 2015 but returned earlier this year to an outpouring of love from fans up and down the UK with a sell out tour all around the UK. \n“Craig’s death had a profound effect on many people. The outpouring of love from around the world at the time gave some comfort to his family and friends as we all tried to come to terms with what had happened.” \nOn the reformation\, the band are keen to emphasise the celebratory nature of the forthcoming live shows\, giving fans a chance to sing along to their favourite hits and commemorate the life of Craig. \n“We know this will be an emotional journey for a lot of people\, not least Craig’s family. We hope you’ll join us as we celebrate some of the music we created\, and which has brought so much joy to people over the last 34 years.” \nWith the recent venues on the tour ranging from 750 to 3000 people this is smallest venue the band have played in many years so we expect a high demand for this show. \nTickets priced £28 are on sale on Friday 26th May.  Supporting local business we have made an allocation of tickets available at Slide Record Shop on sale at 10am (cash only / 4 per person max) with the balance online an hour later from Seetickets at 11am. \nSupport TBC \nFacebook: Inspiral Carpets\nTwitter: @inspiralsband\nInstagram: Inspiral_carpets

SUMMARY:Feet & Super Secret Special Guests & Better Joy.
DESCRIPTION:Previous Feet gigs at Esquires have seen outbreaks of furious dancing\, ill advised facial hair and a sprained ankle or two. \nWith a sound influenced by The Strokes\, Britpop and The Happy Mondays\, we are contractually banned from describing the Coventry five piece as ‘wonky pop’\, so we will have to make do with calling them one of the best new bands we’ve heard in absolutely ages. \nTheir trippy debut LP ‘What’s Inside Is More than Just Ham’ (terrible title\, great record) was dubbed by the NME as ’one of the most intriguing British Indie albums of the year’ while their subsequent ‘Walking Machine’ EP showcased a grittier side to the band. \nEnergetic\, psychedelic and above all fun\, we are delighted that Feet are returning to Esquires for one of only two headline shows before the head off on tour with Willie J Healy… \nNow joined by newcomers Better Joy and a super secret special guest. Check the poster for a clue. \nTickets available now from Seetickets and with no booking fees from Slide Record Store.
