DESCRIPTION:OZRIC TENTACLES + Omnivibes \n7:30pm Friday 20th June\, Bedford Esquires \n*Due to illness the band have had to move the show from Friday 2nd May to Friday 20th June\, all tickets remain valid for the new date\, if you are unable to make the new date a refund is available from the point of purchase* \nOzric Tentacles are regarded as one of the most influential bands to emerge from the UK’s festival scene\, formed during the solstice at Stonehenge Free Festival 1983 going on to become psychedelic staples at Glastonbury and other festivals. The creative vision of multi-instrumentalist Ed Wynne\, the Ozrics’ uniquely trippy soundscapes connect fans of progressive rock\, psychedelia and dance music culture. \nIn the 1980s the band built a fan base on the festival circuit and made a series of cassette releases\, sold at gigs and via a fan club. Their first label release was Pungent Effulgent in 1989\, which was also re-released in the early 2000s\, packaged with Strangeitude. This was followed by Erpland (1990)\, an album dedicated to Erp\, a character who appears on many of the band’s album artworks. 1991 saw the Strangeitude LP. The track “Sploosh!” was used by BMW in an advertising campaign and became the band’s only single. By 1993 their Jurassic Shift album reached the top ten of the U.K. album charts. \nOver the years the band has gone through many line-up changes\, with only Ed Wynne (guitar and keyboards) maintaining a constant presence. The sonically illustrated excursion through the musical realms the band have explored has resulted in 17 albums to date\, with their latest\, Lotus Unfolding\, released in their 40th anniversary year. Famed for blending psychedelia\, indie rock\, and electronic experimentation\, Rhys has also built a rich solo career\, releasing acclaimed albums like Candylion and Babelsberg.\nPleased to announce that the Gruff Rhys show at Bedford Esquires will be an ‘American Interior’ solo show to celebrate the re-release and expanded version of the album. The show is a performance that is a combination of songs and storytelling alongside some accompanying visuals.\n\nHere’s what Gruff has to say about the album:Revisiting American Interior feels prescient. In following the story of explorer John Evans (1770-1799) it becomes clear that faked narratives can have profound and unpredictable consequences in real life.\n\nHis journey of verification in searching continental scale wilderness for a [fictitious] Welsh speaking tribe believed to be living on the Great Plains of North America (an ancient folk tale perpetuated by the Elizabethan court following the subjugation of Wales\, to make colonial claims on behalf of the British on the Americas) had a dramatic political effect on the fledgling USA and a devastating impact on himself and those who helped him.\nI wrote an album inspired by his life; American Interior\, which also served as a soundtrack to a film based on a book about his journey\, intertwined with my own investigative concert tour.It was my most ambitious undertaking; living with one foot in the 18th century and wearing the same clothes (for cinematic continuity) for that entire period\, left me exhausted. DESCRIPTION:Crash Test Dummies + Guests \n7;30pm Thursday 15th May\, Bedford Esquires \n\nWe’re really pleased to have secured a show with Crash Test Dummies in May 2025!\n\nWith one of the most recognizable voices in Canadian music history\, alternative rock band Crash Test Dummies are a three-time Grammy nominated and JUNO award-winning group\, who soared to the top of the worldwide charts in the early 1990’s with hits “Mmm\, Mmm\, Mmm\, Mmm” and “Superman’s Song”. Their cover of “The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead” was a highlight of the soundtrack to the blockbuster film\, “Dumb and Dumber”\, while simultaneously reaching #4 on the US Top 100 album charts. All of their releases keep the same folk-hued\, alternative spirit of their early sound\, centering around the distinct baritone of frontman Brad Roberts and Ellen Reid’s folk-rock fusion.\nAfter a twenty-year hiatus\, the Crash Test Dummies reunited in 2018 for a two-week tour to celebrate their most successful album “God Shuffled His Feet”. The overwhelming reception to these shows has since led to continuous touring across two continents\, with sold-out shows across the US\, Canada\, the UK\, Germany\, Austria and the Netherlands.\n\nThey come to Esquires as part of our 35th anniversary celebrations on Thursday 15th May.\n\nTickets on sale Friday 29th November from Seetickets and local outlets.
