SUMMARY:Mên An Tol + Tooth
DESCRIPTION:Formed in the orbit of a South London pub\, the spirit of Mên An Tol’s music can be traced back to frontman Bill Jefferson’s own musical education in his native Cornwall where he’d play folk sessions in and around the local pubs – in-fact the band name itself is taken from a rural site of ancient stones. \nThe band’s instant chemistry (completed by mandolinist Felix Knox\, bassist Max Silvey\, drummer Tom Stevens and guitarist Robert Wiseman) is writ-large as they channel the raw grit of folk greats like The Pogues and The Waterboys alongside the mainstage urgency and confidence of Britpop giants. Perhaps most vitally\, the songs proudly reclaim lost folk traditions with the use of the mandolin coupled with vibrant storytelling. \n\nNew single ‘Not Ideal’ was produced by Carlos O’Connell of Fontaines DC and is the first track from their second EP ‘This Land’ – out 26th September.\n\nSupport from hotly tipped Londoners Tooth\nTickets from seetickets.com + Esquires + Slide

SUMMARY:CEREMONY Alumni : She's In Parties + Cucamaras + djank + Herbie May (The Lounge Society)
DESCRIPTION:CEREMONY Alumni : She’s In Parties + Cucamaras + djank + Herbie May (The Lounge Society) \n6:30pm\, Saturday 29th November\, Bedford Esquires \nCeremony extra event KLAXON – handful of early bird tickets available – move fast. \nWe thought it would be a great idea to welcome some of the alumni from previous Ceremony events back to Esquires to deliver another great event. Four acts in the main room (no trekking up and down the stairs folks!) The line-up goes like this… \nShe’s In Parties played Room 2 at Ceremony 3 \nShe’s In Parties are a hazy and ethereal UK quartet whose own idiosyncratic amalgamation of indie rock and dream-pop belies their relatively young years. The band is led by Irish-born singer Katie Dillon\, alongside her friends Herbie Wiseman (Lead Guitar)\, Charlie Johnson (Bass) and Matt Carman (Drums). Taking their cues from the likes of Tears For Fears\, Cocteau Twins and The Cure\, the band harbour a sense of nostalgia whilst avoiding being derivative. Instead they succeed in marrying the classic and contemporary\, resulting in an aesthetic and sound that’s both haunting and effortlessly cool. \nCucamaras played Room 2 at Ceremony 4.5 \nNottingham born\, Indie/ Post-punk four-piece Cucamaras are described by Dork as “A band stamping their authority on the next wave of alternative guitar music”.  Forming in 2019\, Cucamaras – Bowley\, co-vocalist Josh Hart\, bassist Dan McGrath and drummer Joe Newton – started out playing straight-up indie songs and gigging around Nottingham before\, like many of us\, they used the pandemic as an opportunity for reflection and reinvention. Wandering from breakneck post-punk to more rhythmic corners\, there’s an urgency and zeitgeist-smashing greatness here waiting to blow apart the mundanity of your grim everyday existence. \ndjank (previously Cosmorat) played Room 2 at Ceremony 4 \nFormed by Taylor Pollock\, djank is the amalgamation of all of the kitschy antiques your grandparents hoarded and all of the beers you stole in highschool. Formed into a big mess of heavy guitars\, four part harmonies\, DIY videos\, and lofi cassette loops\, djank take inspiration from folk\, midwest emo\, 90’s pop\, and whatever records or snippets of audio they find in charity shops and on Internet Archive. \nHerbie May (from The Lounge Society) played the main room at Ceremony 3 \nHerbie\, like so many of his generation\, feels extremely bewildered on a daily basis. In an effort to find something stable\, something reliable and honest\, he has turned to matching playful lyricism with captivating melodies. He shares:\n“I’ve spent 18 months not drinking\, not taking any substances\, not going out very much. Just reading and thinking and trying to make sense of the way we’re forced to exist now. These songs are the first results of that process. And then I got this chance to put them out and to play them live. And it’s a terrifying idea but also absolutely necessary.” \nTickets from Seetickets.com / Slide Record Shop / Esquires bar

SUMMARY:Wolfgang Flür (Ex Kraftwerk) + Pete Duggel
DESCRIPTION:Wolfgang Flür (Ex Kraftwerk) + Pete Duggel \n7:30pm\, Friday 28th November\, Bedford Esquires \nMember of the classic Kraftwerk line up 1973-1987 and author of “I Was A Robot”. \nA member of Kraftwerk during the group’s golden era\, Wolfgang Flür was the band’s electronic percussionist from 1973 to 1987. \nBorn in Frankfurt\, Germany\, Flür became the third member of the band in 1973\, replacing a drum machine. He was a member of the group from their international breakthrough with the album Autobahn (1974) and remained as they experimented with proto techno on albums such as Trans-Europe Express (1977) and Computer World (1981). \nFrustrated with the half-a-decade it took to produce Electric Cafe (1986)\, he left the band after the LP’s release — it wouldn’t be until a 2009 reissue that Flür received an artist credit on the album. In 1997\, he launched his solo career under the name Yamo and released Time Pie\, an album that featured work with the experimental duo Mouse on Mars. \nIn 2000\, he published his memoir I Was a Robot\, but the book was pulled momentarily\, and re-released with revisions after a lawsuit from the remaining members of Kraftwerk. \nA 12″ single named after the book appeared in 2004\, and it was included on the 2015 release Eloquence: Total Works\, a collection of unreleased Flür tracks dating back to 2002. \nHis live performance will include the true analogue influences from the early electronic movement\, whilst showcasing his modern introductions of pop\, techno\, and soundtrack sounds. Dedicated fans and pure electronic appreciators will be truly entertained! \nTickets priced £23 are on sale from Friday 21st February from Seetickets online and in person from Esquires Bar and Slide Record Shop booking fee free.

SUMMARY:The Exploited + Sick On The Bus + The Tendons
DESCRIPTION:THE EXPLOITED + Sick On The Bus + The Tendons  \n45 YEARS OF CHAOS \n7.30pm Friday 21st November\, Bedford Esquires \nThe Exploited ARE punk rock !! The first wave of British punk was a bust. Sid was dead and the Pistols signed Ronnie Biggs as their new singer\, The Clash were adopting rock star poses\, the Damned wanted to be goths\, and the Buzzcock’s Pete Shelley bought a synthesizer. \nBut in Edinburgh ex-Squaddie Wattie Buchan and his mates were seriously pissed off. Angry at what they saw happening around them – a country in disarray with greedy politicians treating the people like shit; and with Johnny Rotten’s prediction of “No Future” become truer by the day\, there was only one way forward – embrace the music that had given you so much and give it something back… your entire life! Thus were spawned THE EXPLOITED. \n1980 saw the The Exploited launch their first vinyl assault upon stupidity\, complacency and corruption when they demolished the indie charts with the one-two knockout of the “Army Life” and “Barmy Army” eps on their own Exploited Records label. \nTheir debut album “Punks Not Dead” launched a new breed of politically outspoken anarcho-punk bands\, and become the number one independent album of 1981 – selling 150\,000 copies and reaching number 20 in the national charts. A year later ‘Troops Of Tomorrow’ was released and is now recognized as one of the all-time classic punk albums. This is a band that has inspired generations of punks\, from originals such as Discharge\, Agnostic Front and Anti-Flag right through to modern punk bands\, and speed metal icons such as Anthrax & Slayer. \nAnyone unsure of what The Exploited stand for need only read the label on the tin: the band’s albums include ‘Death Before Dishonour’\, ‘Beat The Bastards’ and ‘Fuck The System’; and over the decades The Exploited have remained steadfastly true to their roots – never selling out\, and never bowing down. The Exploited are fiercely socially and politically aware\, covering everything from the Criminal Justice Act to the increasing use of Big Brother CCTV and never wavering from their anti-authoritarian\, anti-war stance. \n  \nSupport from SICK ON THE BUS  + THE TENDONS \nSpecial guests TBC \nTickets are £23 adv (+BF)\, on sale Weds 29th January from Seetickets.

SUMMARY:The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart + Cassie Ramone
DESCRIPTION:The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart + Cassie Ramone \n7:30pm Weds 19th November\, Bedford Esquires \nRoughly five years after breaking up\, New York’s indie shoegazey/dream-popppers the Pains of being Pure at Heart have announced a reunion tour celebrating the 15th year anniversary of their self-titled debut LP.  Ok\, it will actually be 16 years by then\, but… The Pains of Being Bad at Math! \nPeggy\, Kurt\, Christoph\, and Kip will be back on stage together for the first time since 2012. Alex is attending to (very good) personal things and can’t be with them this time\, so Eddy Marshall\, who plays with Kip in The Natvral\, will join on bass for the tour. Pobpah be performing their self-titled album in its entirety— and a few other songs from that era too. \nIn late 2007\, The Pains started a Myspace page to showcase their songs. Berman noted that at the time\, the band name was all the group had. The name comes from the title of an unpublished children’s story by Charles Augustus Steen III (a friend of Berman’s)\, which revolves around “realising what matters most in life – things like friendship and having a good time”. The trio began working on numerous tracks. Songs such as “Contender”\, “Come Saturday”\, and “This Love Is Fucking Right!” would stay band favorites\, winding up on the 2009 album The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Other tracks\, such as “Orchard of My Eye”\, would be released on their first EP. \nAfter numerous shows around New York\, the trio recruited Berman’s roommate Kurt Feldman as drummer. After playing more shows\, both in and outside of the US the band recorded their inaugural LP. Their first self-released EP came out in 2007 on Painbow\, a label created by the band. Their debut self-titled full-length album was released on February 3\, 2009\, via Slumberland Records\, a favorite label of the band’s. The album peaked at number nine on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. In 2009\, they released Higher Than the Stars\, their second EP. \nThe band’s second album\, entitled Belong\, was released in 2011. It represented their commercial peak\, reaching number 92 on the Billboard 200. It also charted worldwide\, reaching the top 100 in Belgium\, France\, the United Kingdom\, and Spain. \nGuest support comes from Cassie Ramone Cassie the American songwriter\, musician and artist. Ramone rose to prominence as the guitarist and vocalist of indie rock band Vivian Girls. \nTickets cost £25 in advance from SEE\, Slide and Esquires.

SUMMARY:A Pete McKee Celebration – ‘The Boy With A Leg Named Brian’
DESCRIPTION:A Pete McKee Celebration is coming to Esquires Music Venue in Bedford Saturday 15th November \nArtist Pete McKee invites you to attend a special event hosted at one of the UK’s best-loved independent music venues. For the first time\, Pete is bringing his two greatest passions together with his latest exhibition on display during the day and a performance with his band in the evening. \nEsquires by day will showcase the exhibition\, ‘The Boy With A Leg Named Brian’\, which takes visitors on a journey through Pete’s childhood in the 70s and 80s. It starts with his upbringing on a working class council estate and explores how he came to define his own identity through music and fashion. Although this is the story of Pete’s life\, his memories and tales of everyday life and pop culture\, are relatable experiences shared by many across the UK. The exhibition is free to attend and no booking is required. \nEsquires by night will host a ticketed live show from The Everly Pregnant Brothers; the comedic ukulele band who are well known for their parodies of popular songs. For those unfamiliar\, Pete was one of the founding members of the band and after a summer of playing festivals\, including Tramlines and Rock N Roll Circus\, they are excited to be bringing songs from their latest album ‘Never Mind The Ukes\, Here’s The Brothers’ to the main stage at Esquires. The live show is supported by The Ouse Valley Singles Club. Tickets go on sale Monday 8th September at 10am. \n“Music is a huge part of my life\, and features constantly in my work. In fact\, it was the original dream of mine to play on Top of The Pops rather than become an artist. Esquires is a beautiful venue which has played host to some amazing names over the years. Grass roots music venues like this are vital for bands like mine to perform to new audiences\, so I can’t wait to play on its iconic stage. I love showcasing my artwork in non-traditional spaces too\, so this is going to be a real celebration of art and music.” – Pete McKee \nBoth events are running on Saturday 15th November. \nThe exhibition during the day is open from 11am – 4pm and entry is free for all ages. No booking required.\nThe band performance in the evening opens at 7.30pm with support from The Ouse Valley Singles Club. Tickets are priced at £15 and go on sale at 10am Monday 8th September from Seetickets and local outlets. \nLocation: Bedford Esquires\, 60A Bromham Rd\, Bedford MK40 2QG

DESCRIPTION:Support from SOUNDS MINT\n\nReturning to the venue for the first time since their sold out show back in 2019\, Pigs x 7 are guaranteed to bring the noise.\n\nI’ve always liked the quote: “Sleep\, those little slices of death – how I loathe them.” So reckons Matt Baty of Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs\, vocalist and lyricist of a band as comfortable wading through the darker quarters of their subconscious as they are punishing ampstacks.\n\nWhether dwelling in the realm of dreams or nightmares\, the primordial drive of the Newcastle\, UK based band is more powerful than ever. 2023’s ‘Land Of Sleeper’\, their fourth record in a decade of riot and rancour\, is testimony to this: the sound of a band not so much reinvigorated as channelling a furious energy\, which only appears to gather momentum as the band’s surroundings spin on their axis.\n\nThe better to unite slumber and waking\, ‘Land Of Sleeper’ is no less than an act of transcendence for Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs – new anthems to elucidate a world sleepwalking to oblivion.\n\nTickets on sale Friday 29th August at 10am

SUMMARY:GONG + Snorkel
DESCRIPTION:GONG + Snorkel  \n7:30pm\, Sat 8th November\, Bedford Esquires \nGONG are coming to Bedford Esquires on Sat 8th November. \nThe ever-metamorphosing entity that is GONG launches\, as ever\, into unknown – and unknowing – territory with new tours for 2025 destined to be talked about\, discussed\, and argued over\, up and down the land. \nFrom its beginnings in a French commune in 1967\, through the Virgin Records years\, mismanagement\, court cases\, break-ups and re-joining’s\, deaths and rebirths – there has always been a continuous thread of beautiful\, dangerous and extraordinary music. \nThe current holders of the flame have come together over the last eight years; sinuous bass player Dave Sturt joined just as the album 2032 was shown to the world; Ian East (Sax\, Flute) was the next to blow in through the portal; Fabio Golfetti brought his guitars from Brazil (after working with Daevid Allen for many years); Kavus Torabi (lead vox and guitars) appeared to Daevid in a vision; Cheb Nettles (drums) just sort of turned up. \nIn 2015\, Daevid Allen passed away. His influence and legacy were honoured on the band’s subsequent album\, Rejoice! I’m Dead! (2016). In recent years GONG has performed with the Steve Hillage Band (himself a former member of the 1970s GONG line-up) and released the critically acclaimed album The Universe Also Collapses (2019) and a stunning new live album Pulsing Signals (2022) captures the band at a creative peak with as they continue propel forward in time for the next phase of this legendary band. \nGong’s musically diverse world includes shades of psychedelia\, space rock\, jazz\, avant-garde\, krautrock and surreal soundscapes. \nTickets priced £20 are on sale from 10am on Weds 30th April from Seetickets and in person from Slide Record Shop and Bedford Esquires. \n

SUMMARY:The Birthday Massacre + Lesbian Death Bed
DESCRIPTION:The Birthday Massacre + Lesbian Death Bed \n7:30pm\, Thurs 7th November\, Esquires  \n  \nThe Birthday Massacre is a synth rock band\, based in Toronto\, Ontario\, Canada. The band was officially formed in 1999\, known at that time as Imagica. The band consists of Chibi (vocals)\, Rainbow (guitars and programming)\, Michael Falcore (guitars)\, Owen (keyboards)\, O.E. (previously drums\, now bass)\, and Rhim (drums). Their sound is mostly a fusion of retro electronica and dynamic contemporary songwriting. Elements of children’s fiction and adult fantasy are combined with twisting distortion and euphoric melody to create a unique and original sound dubbed “post-retro”. This sound is also affiliated with “synth rock” a rising genre influenced by elements 80’s synthpop\, industrial\, and gothic rock. The group originated in London\, Ontario under the name Imagica. The group’s original line-up consisted of: Chibi\, Rainbow\, Michael Falcore\, and Aslan Osiris (bass). Dank played live keyboards and O.E. joined the group on live drums. A seven-song limited edition demo was released. In 2001\, Dank left the group\, and the others relocated from London to Toronto\, Ontario\, to begin recording. There\, they recorded another limited edition demo\, this time with five songs. Shortly thereafter\, the band adopted the name The Birthday Massacre. In July of 2002\, The Birthday Massacre independently released a limited edition CD entitled “Nothing and Nowhere”. In 2003\, Adm joined the band on live keyboards and Rhim on drums. On July 20\, 2004\, The Birthday Massacre released a nine song EP entitled “Violet” and at the end of the year\, re-released “Nothing and Nowhere” with new sleeve artwork. Adm soon left thereafter to explore his own projects. In the fall of 2004\, the band was signed to Repo Records in Germany\, and released a remastered and expanded version of “Violet” in Europe\, including updated album art in a digipak case. In 2005 the band signed to Metropolis Records and released “Violet” in the United States\, Canada\, United Kingdom\, and most of South America. Owen joined on live keyboards and in August\, the band began a series of international tours taking them to Switzerland\, Germany\, the Netherlands\, Hungary\, the Czech Republic\, and Belgium. Also in August\, a DVD consisting of a video for the song “Blue” was released. It also included behind-the-scenes footage\, interviews\, a studio performance of “Nevermind” as well as live performances of “Violet” and “Video Kid”. The centerpiece of the DVD was the Dan Ouellette-directed video for “Blue”. In early 2006\, the Birthday Massacre toured North America\, playing across Canada\, the United States\, and Mexico on their “Broken Minds” tour. They also played Europe in the summer of 2006. In June 2007\, it was announced that the band was working on a new record with Canadian producer/engineer Dave “Rave” Ogilvie (producer of many industrial acts such as Skinny Puppy\, not to be confused with Kevin Ogilvie\, frontman of Skinny Puppy) and that bass player Aslan Osiris had left the band for his own project. Aslan has been replaced on bass by former drummer O.E.. The demo version of the first single\, “Kill The Lights”\, was released on Vampirefreaks and MySpace for streaming on January 1\, 2007. “Looking Glass” (another single from “Walking With Strangers”) was released for streaming on August 1\, 2007 for Vampirefreaks and MySpace. On September 11th\, 2007 the band released “Walking With Strangers” in North America\, entering at #10 on the Billboard “Top Heatseekers” chart for September 29th. The album was released in Europe on September 21 and in the UK on October 22. Official site:
