SUMMARY:The Pad Presents // SPACE + Howlin Owls // Bedford Esquires
DESCRIPTION:THE PAD PRESENTS\nhttp://www.thepadpresents.com \nSpace are returning to Esquires on Saturday 20th May 2017! \nThe band release the much anticipated new studio album “Give me your Future” in late 2016 and embark on a new tour of the same name in April – June across the UK and Ireland. \nThe new album is being recorded and produced by Grammy and Brit award winning producer Steve Levine who has worked with The Clash\, Culture Cub\, Beach Boys\, Deniece Williams and Gary Moore to name a few. \n2015 was a good year for the band with Female of the Species making the top of the al-bum charts with the “TFI Album” – (Number 1 in June 2015) Followed by the release of the “Strange World” single and the sold out 30 date UK tour of the same name.. \nTommy said he was very proud of the Strange World single and the video shot by Mark McNulty\, “it is a return to the true origins of the band\, the tour has been mental with the whole audiences joining us on stage for the final encore of Female\, just amazing nights with the fans\, very special for me\, for me its all about playing new music to new and old fans and playing them the hits” \nThe bands last album release was ‘Attack Of The Mutant 50ft Kebab’- their first new album for nine years. Tommy’s influence for the new songs stemmed from his infamous fascination with science and horror films\, and he likens the album to a ‘Fifties B-Movie’ for the ears. Proud to note how Space have always stood out from the ‘normal\,’ Tommy concedes that their last album has the usual signature Space quirkiness\, with some extra ingredients add-ed to the mix – he describes the songs as a mish-mash of SKA\, Punk and the classic Space sound. “When we tour\, we love playing the old stuff\, but I always knew I wanted to record some new material. We know the fans like to hear the old classics from our multi-million selling albums ‘Spiders’ and ‘Tin Planet’\, but we wanted to give them something ex-tra.” \n“The title track on the album is my favorite song from the record and is the story of how a fifty-foot kebab from a side street takeaway shop wreaks its revenge on the ailing high street. It’s a message about survival in a tongue-in-cheek way. The first single from the al-bum is a track called ‘Fortune Teller’ – keeping up with the mystic vibe!” \nSpace have sold over 2 million albums world wide with titles including “Spiders\, “Tin Planet” “Suburban Rock and Roll” and “Attack of the Mutant 50ft Kebab” and also released 10 top 40 singles and host of other single releases to-date with titles including “Neighborhood” “Female of the Species”\, “Me and You Vs. The World” “Avenging Angels” “Dark Clouds”\, and “Begin Again”. \n—————– \nTickets are £15 adv\, on sale now from Seetickets here:\nhttp://www.seetickets.com/event/space-guests/bedford-esquires/1035961 \nSupport comes from Howlin Owls \nThis is a 14+ ages show\, under 16’s to be accompanied by an adult.

SUMMARY:The Parrots & Special Guests: YOTA & Mono 01
DESCRIPTION:The Parrots swoop back into Bedford this May after winning the crowd over whilst supporting Hooton Tennis Club at the tail end of 2015. Hailing from the same garage rock scene in Madrid as Hinds (lead singer and guitarist Diego Garcia produced their debut LP) The Parrots have swiftly earned themselves a reputation as quite literally the world’s greatest three piece party band. Gigs are frenetic\, sweaty affairs which usually end with the crowd on the stage\, or the band in the crowd\, or both! \n‘With their frantic live performances and a solid set of tunes behind them\, the sunbaked stoners are on to a winner’ – Clash \n‘A racket in the best possible way’ – Q Magazine \n‘The Parrots are the perfect party-starter’ – Line of Best Fit \nThis is a special warm up gig for The Parrots show at the Great Escape Festival in Brighton. \nAfter much secrecy we can now also reveal that YOTA (Youth of the Apocolypse) will be also be performing\, in what we understand is only their second ever gig. The new supergroup formed by Jamie Reynolds (Klaxons)\, Jeff Wooton (Beady Eye / Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds) and Seye Adelekan (Gorrilaz)\, it’s promises to be something quite special…. \nTickets are £7.50 each\, available from all the usual outlets.

SUMMARY:The Smyths at Bedford Esquires *SOLD OUT*
DESCRIPTION:‘Stop me if you think you’ve heard this one before…’ \nFollowing their sell out appearances at Esquires in 2015 and 2016\, The Smyths will make a welcome return to Bedford in May 2017. \nMore than a mere tribute band\, The Smyths are a joyous celebration of arguably the greatest band of all time. Thrillingly accurate\, the group have amassed a huge following and regularly sell out huge venues both here and abroad. You may also know them from their massively popular appearances at the Williams Green stage at Glastonbury (if you have been lucky enough to get in the tent!). \nThe year 2017 will be the 30th anniversary of The Smiths splitting up in a haze of acrimony and recriminations\, seemingly never to reform. To mark the occasion\, The Smyths will be playing two sets on the evening which will span the bands entire career\, including selected tracks from their final (and Morrissey & Marr’s favourite) album\, ‘Strangeways\, Here We Come’. \nTickets are £12.50 in advance\, available from http://www.seetickets.com\, http://www.wegottickets and from Esquires Bar / Mario’s Hair Design / Planet Boutique (with no booking fees).

SUMMARY:Geno Washington & The Ram Jam Band - Bank Holiday Special
DESCRIPTION:‘The King of funky Blues n Soul’ \nGeno Washington & The Ram Jam Band + Guests \n7.30pm\, Bank Holiday Sunday 30th April\, Bedford Esquires \nGeno originates from Evansville in Indiana\, USA and first came to England in the 1960′s as part of the US Air Force. His love of Blues and Soul music soon found him jamming with local bands in and around Ipswich and eventually led him to London where he caused a sensation singing with top R&B acts Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames and Zoot Money’s Big Roll Band at the legendary Flamingo Club in Soho. The rest\, as they say\, is history. \nGeno teamed up with some of London’s hottest musicians and Geno Washington and the Ram Jam Band very quickly became established as the most exciting live band in Britain\, regularly topping the bill over World famous artistes\, as nobody in their right mind wanted to go on stage after a Geno show! \nHis live shows were immortalised in two of the biggest selling albums of the 60’s – “Hand Clappin’ Foot Stompin’ Funky Butt Live” and “Hipsters Flipsters and Finger Poppin’ Daddies”. His status as the undisputed “King of Soul” was cemented forever by Kevin Rowland and Dexy’s Midnight Runners in the 1980’s with the World-wide No.1 smash hit single “Geno”\, which paid homage to the great man himself and is still played regularly today on national radio and at Geno’s live gigs both before and after shows. \nThroughout the years Geno and his band have continued to tour extensively all over the World and have released several highly acclaimed albums and singles. His latest live double album simply entitled “It’s Geno Time”\, recorded at the legendary Half Moon in Putney\, is widely regarded as his best work to date: you only have to listen to the audience reaction to know that Geno has lost none of his magic as he and the band deliver a blistering set of Soul classics to a wild crowd who wouldn’t let them off stage! \nGeno’s life long love of Blues and R&B has led to yet another chapter in his illustrious career with the long standing rhythm section of the Ram Jam Band (Geoff Hemsley on drums\, Steve Bingham on bass and Stuart Dixon on guitar) which is a hard- hitting\, fast-moving show of R&B / Blues / Soul classics that has audiences on their feet from start to finish and is receiving rave reviews wherever they play. \nComing right up to date Geno recently guested on BBC Radio 6 on the Lauren Laverne show and his interview and live performance was trending on twitter as the great man got a lotta love from around the UK \nGeno Washington and the Ram Jam Band is a barnstorming live show that never lets up in intensity or excitement and delivers the goods every time! It’s a Bank Holiday the next day so no need to get up early! \nGuest support tbc \nTickets are on sale now from Seetickets priced £15 advance and will be available in person from the 7th December from the usual outlets of Esquires Bar\, Planet Boutique in Bedford and Mario’s Hair Design in Kempston as well Vinyl Revelations in Luton from Wednesday 7th December

Come and be part of something a bit special! \nBRAD DEAR BAND \nBrad Dear is a 22 year old raw folk singer/songwriter from Nottingham\, blending his husky vocals with sing along choruses and stories about life. With captivating live performances and a forthcoming EP\, Brad Dear has truly secured his reputation as one to look out for in 2017. \nCutting his teeth on the live scene when just a teenager\, Brad toured across Europe as a solo artist\, raising funds for the charity ‘Rally for Heroes’\, also gaining air play by Huw Stephens on BBC Radio One along the way.\n\nBrad has further grown his reputation as an exciting young performer by playing gigs all over the country\, along with notable appearances at Dot-to-Dot\, Tramlines and other festivals where he has shared stages with a diverse range of artists such as Wolf Alice\, Jess Glynne\, Public Enemy and Scouting for Girls. Recently Brad was also asked to perform at Nottingham’s prestigious Rock City for Twenty-One Pilots sold out after party.\n\nCurrently\, Brad is in the studio with a full band\, recording the EP set for release in March 2017. \nBRIAN STONE \nBrian was in his late teens when his first band The Sequels played popular 60s covers in the Hampshire area in the early 80s. A decade or so later he was in a covers and writing 3 piece party band in Cambridgeshire called Crimson Kipper among other things. \nThese days Brian has taken to the road solo with his acoustic act and a whole load of new songs on the subject of life and a host of covers and traditional tunes. At home in a pub\, club or festival environment his catchy\, witty\, personal songs will strike a chord with many. \nHe loves to get other musicians involved and is in his element just jamming in a tent or around a firepit.

SUMMARY:The Ben Poole Band plus guests
DESCRIPTION:When you hear comments below from some of the worlds’ greatest guitar players and one of the leading UK roots magazines you just know they have heard something very special. Twenty-five year old Ben Poole is currently being described as the most exciting young blues guitarist to come out of the UK for a long\, long time. \nF***ing amazing! I loved his playing…I really loved his playing!” – JEFF BECK \n“A Really great player!” – GARY MOORE \n“This is a young man to look out for as he is no doubt a rising talent and should be supported when he comes to a local venue.” – ‘BLUES MATTERS’ MAGAZINE \n“Great tracks\, great guitar and vocal live…one great special player!” – BERNIE TORME (Ozzy Osbourne\, Ian Gillan/Deep Purple) \n“A fleet fingered and talented newcomer to the British blues scene. His playing may be ferocious but he rarely sacrifices precision for it. His phrasing belies his years. Definitely one to watch.” -‘Guitarist’ Magazine \n“Very good. A really fresh sound and style!” -Paul Jones (BBC Radio 2) \n“Blues Extravaganza! The guitar sounds were impeccable\, the timing was beyond reproach and there was evidence of dynamic awareness throughout…This was no “lazy” blues offering – Ben managed to sneak in everything from country licks to Satriani-style legato widdling\, yet this was never to the detriment of the overall musicality of the performance. Nice!” -Guthrie Govan\nhttps://youtu.be/FXjFzWS3i2M

SUMMARY:The Pad Presents / Honeyblood / Doe / Tear / Bedford Esquires
DESCRIPTION:THE PAD PRESENTS\nhttp://www.thepadpresents.com \nHoneyblood + Doe – Thursday 27th April – Esquires \nWe are very pleased to announce that Honeyblood will be stopping by Bedford Esquires on Thursday 27th April as part of their UK tour! \nDespite their fledgling status and minimal setup\, Honeyblood’s songs are fully formed and perfectly assured. With nothing extraneous\, their music is driven through tightly-bound instrumentals and laced with the sheer strength and beauty of Stina’s voice. The songs resonate with deep melodic hooks and the kind of effortless charm that’ve drawn recent comparisons to the likes of Best Coast\, Haim and Frankie Rose\, as well as the swooning\, strident delivery of more established artists like Jenny Lewis. While those are all decent touchstones for their triumphant debut single\, the band also tellingly cite the darker currents of The Breeders\, PJ Harvey and The Throwing Muses as lifelong influences. \nOn ‘Bud’\, the band’s first vinyl release\, their no-nonsense bittersweet pop has been captured to tape by Rory Atwell (Palma Violets\, Veronica Falls). The rootsy\, chanting glee of the A-side is backed with the urgent lo-fi punky charm of addictive B-side\, ‘Kissing on You’. \nSince their formation in early 2012 the duo have supported acts including Palma Violets\, Sleigh Bells and Deap Vally\, played shows for the likes NME and Vice\, as well as festivals everywhere from The Great Escape to their native T in The Park. But they started out with humble DIY beginnings\, organising their own guerrilla show at The Old Hairdressers in Glasgow to commemorate the release of a raucous two-track cassette entitled\, ‘Thrift Shop’\, recorded in their kitchen with one mic. Honeyblood have rapidly ingrained themselves into the bustling Glaswegian scene\, fast becoming one of its most talked-about names. “There’s lots of bands branching out from the usual genres and just writing excellent tunes\,” comments Stina\, “It’s great to feel a part of that.” It was at that early show that FatCat first stumbled upon the band and their signing continues the Brighton-based label’s strong run of picking up on the best new Scottish talent at a nascent stage. Honeyblood follow on fromThe Twilight Sad\, Frightened Rabbit\, We Were Promised Jetpacks\, and PAWS\, all of whom were found from demos or early performances. \nHoneyblood’s debut self-titled LP was released in July 2014. \n————- \nTickets are £10\, on sale now from:\nhttp://www.seetickets.com/event/honeyblood/bedford-esquires-bedford/1067616 \nAlso on sale locally right now from Boutique Planet\, Marios Hair Design and Esquires Bar. \nThis is a 14+ ages show\, under 16s to be accompanied by an over 18. \nSupport line includes the most excellent Doe
