SUMMARY:Have You Ever Seen The Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS? / Friday 4th May
DESCRIPTION:The Pad Presents\nhttp://www.thepadpresents.com \nHave You Ever Seen The Jane Fonda Aerobic VHS? + Guests\nFriday 4th May – Bedford Esquires \nWe are very excited to be bringing Finland’s HYESTJFAVHS to Esquires\, having followed the band around Brighton at The Great Escape festival! \nThe band have just released brand new album ‘Jazbelle 1984/1988’. Across	the course of 11 ‘flower-garage’ tunes\, each catchier and more chaotic than the last\, HYESTJFAVHS? establish themselves as	one of the most exciting	and	infectious	bands to come out	of Scandinavia in	recent years. The trio have carved out a unique sound for	themselves\, opting to use keyboards instead	of guitars. \nThe best way to describe them is like an 80s synth pop band with garage-rock sensibilities\, stringed together with lyrics about surreal films and phrases. In short\, alot of fun. \n————— \nFull support line up TBC \nTickets are on sale online here from Friday 2nd March:\nhttps://www.seetickets.com/event/have-you-ever-seen-the-jane-fonda-aerobic-vhs-/bedford-esquires/1204181 \nAlso available locally from Esquires\, Slide Record Shop and Marios Hair.

SUMMARY:Wayne Hussey Solo Show - SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:Wayne Hussey – Aniversário Tour May 2018 \nWayne Hussey is taking a break from his day job as leader of the British rock band\, The Mission\, to go out and play a double fistful of solo shows in late spring 2018. Taking in shows in places as far flung as Umea in the north of Sweden and Santiago in Chile the tour is entitled ‘Aniversário Tour’. The Portuguese word\, aniversário translates as birthday and these shows are a way for Wayne to celebrate his upcoming 60th. In fact the final show of the tour on Saturday 26th May\, his birthday\, will be in Sao Paulo\, Brazil\, the city where Wayne has resided for the last 17 years. \nWayne says: “I was talking with Cinthya\, my wife\, and she was asking me what would I would most like to do for my birthday. Besides the obvious I replied\, ‘play a show’. And she suggested I do so. As the band is on a sabbatical it has to be solo. And as rehearsing for one show takes as much time and preparation as it does for a whole tour one thing led to another and here I am. I shall expect lots of presents and happy birthday to be sang to me at all these shows\,” Wayne smirks.\nHe continues\, ‘I’m writing my memoirs at the moment and it’s keeping me rooted indoors and to my desk so a chance to get away and make a bit of music for a couple of weeks will be more than welcome\, I expect\, come May. I’m sure cabin fever will have set in by then.” \nWayne’s autobiography\, working title ‘By Name And By Nature’\, is expected early next year and will be published by Omnibus Press.

SUMMARY:Sold Out* The Dead South + guests\, 20th Apr\, Bedford Esquires
DESCRIPTION:The Dead South + guests\n8pm\, Friday 20th April\, Bedford Esquires \nSaskatchewan is how it sounds: A province in the prairies of Canada. Double the size of Germany\, but with less than one million residents. Lots of nature\, and lots of silence. Perhaps lots of time to fill the silence with natural sounds\, too. \nThis is where the quartet The Dead South comes from\, and fits perfectly within this description. The debut album “Good Company” revealed the four hatted\, hairy and bearded fellas\, with singer Nate Hilts as a focal point. The album is a perfect fit to the genres Folk\, Neo-Folk and Bluegrass-Folk or even alternative Country with refreshing tunes to it. With impact\, humor and a kind of bold manner of putting words into sound. The instrumentation stays knowingly pure: guitars\, cello\, banjo\, kick drum\, mandolin – building the acoustic fundamentals for full lead vocals and harmonies. \nThe first album really was a promise that is now fulfilled with the upcoming UK release of the second album titled “Illusion & Doubt”. No doubt the four piece from the prairies has matured\, not only because the banjo is now being played by a lady. Harmony changes as well as excellent and virtuosic instrumental parts have been added to their incredible energetic\, passionate and sometimes surprisingly catchy melodies. But Hilts and company are far from being tame: “We are definitely closer to the Pogues than to Alison Krauss. Unfortunately\, we do not possess much of the delicate elegance so we try and bring more energy and entertainment to our side. You could say we are a mix of Nu-folk with a few different styles mixed in between. We tend to add elements of classical\, punk\, rock\, alternative\, bluegrass\, folk and everything in between.” \nThe Dead South is truly a one of a kind artist\, 2018 will undoubtedly see them make huge strides in the UK! \nTickets priced £12 are on sale now via Seetickets and will be available in the outlets of Esquires Bar\, Slide Record Shop & Mario’s Hair Design in Kempston from the 27th September \n“Nu-Folk? SUMMARY:Shonen Knife / The Saboteurs / Dancehall / 14.04.18
DESCRIPTION:THE PAD PRESENTS\nhttp://www.thepadpresents.com \nShonen Knife + The Saboteurs + DANCEHALL – Saturday 14th April – Bedford Esquires \n“When I finally got to see them live\, I was transformed into a hysterical nine-year-old girl at a Beatles concert.” Kurt Cobain \nShonen Knife are a ground-breaking all-female Japanese\, pop-punk rock trio formed in Osaka in 1981\, when Naoko Yamana first heard late ‘70’s punk-pop\, particularly The Ramones. Inspired\, the band crafted their own idiosyncratic songs\, fashioned brightly coloured outfits and DIY albums. In 1985\, K Records released ‘Burning Farm’ in the United States. Deals with Sub Pop and various majors followed. 1989 saw the crème of the alt. rock scene (including Sonic Youth\, L7 and Redd Kross) covering their favourite Shonen Knife songs on the tribute album ‘Every Band Has A Shonen Knife Who Loves Them’. They toured with Nirvana (on the ‘Nevermind’ tour)\, The Breeders\, as part of Lollapalooza\, wowed the Reading Festival and Roskilde\, recorded sessions for John Peel and appeared on MTV’s ‘Beavis and Butthead’. The band returned to the UK after a gap of 16 years in 2009 and since toured regularly throughout Europe gaining many generations of fans. \n2018 will be the band’s 37th year of rock and will see them release their 20th studio album. With no signs of slowing down\, Naoko continues to say: “Let’s Rock!”. \n———— \nUncut Magazine: “While the fuzz-filled punk vibe is still present and correct\, there’s also a hard rock thread running through Overdrive\, with “Black crow”\, about a bird that never shuts up\, and “Ramen Rock”\, a thunderous ode to their preferred noodle dish\, containing unmistakeable nods to thin Lizzy and Black Sabbath” \nNME: “…Pay close attention and the buzzing ‘Jet Shot’ and superficially banal ‘Shopping’ disguise personal and political lyrics far smarter than Shonen Knife’s cartoon image suggests.” \nThe Independent: (Simon Price) 8/10 “There are two types of people: those who enjoy thrashy Japanese girl-punk\, and those who have something wrong with them.” \nNoisey “Shonen Knife Write Sick Songs About Cats\, Cookies\, and Cake” \nThe Sunday Times: (Stewart Lee ) “…irrepressible slice of bounce-along indie-pop. Beguiling.” \nShonen Knife @ Facebook https://www.facebook.com/ShonenKnifeOfficial\nShonen Knife @ Twitter https://twitter.com/ShonenKnife https://twitter.com/ShonenKnife_Mgr\nShonen Knife @ Instagram https://instagram.com/shonenknifeofficial/\nShonen Knife TV (YouTube) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgrY4NYto5MDucBFGwn2BsA \n————— \nTickets are £12.50 adv\, on sale now online:\nhttps://www.seetickets.com/event/shonen-knife/bedford-esquires-bedford/1186631 \nAlso on sale from Friday 15th December:\nEsquires Bar\nMarios Hair Kempston\nSlide Record Shop

SUMMARY:Popes of Chillitown\, Easydread\, The Baracutas\, Eat The Evidence
DESCRIPTION:Popes of Chillitown + easydread + The Baracutas + Eat The Evidence \n8pm\, Friday 13th April\, Bedford Esquires \nAbsolutely massive line Ska-Punk line up coming to Esquires on April 13th! \nWith 2 shows under their belt at Bedford Esquires\, a headline show and a very special guest support to Neville Staple earlier in 2017 we thought it was about time Popes Of Chillitown made a return visit to the venue. \n“More infectious than Ebola\, it is almost impossible not to want to ******\, jump\, shake or wiggle when you listen to these guys.” \n“The sharpest\, tightest Ska sound we have ever had on the show” – Tom Robinson BBC6 \nPOPES OF CHILLITOWN are a Ska/Dub/Punk band from London\, who have been rampaging through the UK scene for the last few years like an unstoppable grooving\, skanking juggernaut. A straight-up ska-punk band they are not\, expertly mashing the energy of upbeat ska\, punk\, 2-tone and drum & bass with the groove of reggae and dub\, adding in the lyrical flow of hip hop and finishing it all off with a generous helping of catchy melodies and hooks. The result has been likened to artists such as Capdown\, Skindred\, The Beat\, The Police and Jamie T. \nAfter releasing their pledge-funded debut album ‘A Word To The Wise’ in 2013\, the band have had a relentless touring schedule across the UK and into Europe\, seeing them play banging headline shows\, festivals and support slots with the likes of Reel Big Fish\, The Selecter\, The Skints\, Imperial Leisure\, [Spunge]\, Mouthwash\, The Snare and many more. \nMay 2015 saw them release their sophomore album ‘To The Moon’\, an explosive tour-de-force of groove and energy with a lifetime’s worth of lyrical hooks\, melodies and basslines. \n“If you’re looking for a band who play the kind of ska punk that’s infused with a variety of styles and influences like Capdown and The King Blues were so great at\, then get this second album from Popes Of Chillitown.” – Big Cheese (8/10) \n———————- \nTickets priced £7 are on sale now online from Seetickets and can be picked up in person from Esquires Bar\, Slide Record Store & Mario’s Hair Design booking fee free (cash only) from the 27th November.

SUMMARY:Submotion Orchestra / Sunday 25th March / Bedford Esquires
DESCRIPTION:THE PAD PRESENTS\nhttp://www.thepadpresents.com \nSubmotion Orchestra + Guests – Sunday 25th March – Bedford Esquires \nSubmotion Orchestra makes some of the most interesting and exciting music from the UK today: A kaleidoscope of electronic bass music\, entrancing vocals\, and ambient jazz and dub that sits somewhere on an axis between Bonobo and London Grammar. Their unique music is at once delicate and heavy\, spacious and dense\, highly atmospheric but firmly rooted. Earth-shaking bass and drums\, combined with lush keyboard and trumpet textures\, creates the perfect backdrop for the fragile beauty of Ruby Wood’s vocals\, and the celestial effects of producer Ruckspin. \nFormed in Leeds in 2009\, Submotion Orchestra have quickly made a name for themselves in the music scene\, sharing stages with The Pharcyde\, Hidden Orchestra\, Bonobo and more. Their live gigs have left audiences open-mouthed\, and their latest release\, album Colour Theory\, has drawn highly positive reviews. \nAt Esquires\, Submotion Orchestra will light up the stage with soulful vocals\, velvety brass\, and reverberating bass that’ll leave you hearing colours. Don’t miss out the chance to see these jazz fusion virtuosos in person. \n“Full of brilliance and charm.” – The Guardian \n————————- \nTickets are £15 adv on sale now from seetickets:\nhttp://www.seetickets.com/event/submotion-orchestra/bedford-esquires/1130263 \nOr Skiddle: https://www.skiddle.com/whats-on/Bedford/Esquires-Bedford/Submotion-Orchestra-at-Esquires-Bedford/13019976/ \nAlso available from Esquires\, Slide Record Shop and Marios Hair Design
