SUMMARY:WAYWARD SONS + Doomsday Outlaw
DESCRIPTION:The Pad Presents in association with X-Ray Touring… \nWAYWARD SONS + Doomsday Outlaw \n7.30pm\, Sunday 2nd December\, Bedford Esquires \nReset the counters! Toby Jepson is back with WAYWARD SONS his brand new band and Ghosts Of Yet To Come\, his first new album in over 20 years and brings his band to Bedford Esquires on Sunday 2nd December. \nAfter the incredible success of Little Angels\, a number one album\, millions of records sold\, massive sell out shows and numerous hit singles\, Toby has been busy these past years in movie work\, performing with Fastway\, Gun and Dio’s Disciples and producing albums for numerous bands (Saxon\, Fastway\, Virginmarys). \nHis heart however\, is always in writing and performing and so the concept of WAYWARD SONS was born – a new band\, built for playing live\, a new direction with Toby’s songs centre stage and a new album\, signed to Frontiers Music SRL\, with all the hallmarks of a great debut. \nWayward Sons\, handpicked by Toby are Nic Wastell (bass\, Chrome Molly) Phil Martini (drums\, Spear Of Destiny\, ex Quireboys\, Joe Elliot’s Down and Outs) Sam Wood (guitar\, a real new gunslinger from Treason Kings) and Dave Kemp (keys\, ex Little Angels touring band and long time sideman to Toby). GOYTC was written in a live band situation\, a first for Toby\n‘’I decided to get out of my comfort zone\, new players\, no ‘been there done that’ and it totally worked’ says Toby. 26 songs were written in a series of rehearsals at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios and 14 were then taken into Vale Studios in Worcestershire and recorded in a live band situation with Toby co producing with Chris D’adda. \nPassionate\, honest music made by passionate honest musicians who have come together to create rock music that reflects their heroes from the ‘70s and ‘80’s – modernity through homage…..Wayward Sons \nTickets priced £10 are on sale from 10am on Friday 10th August online from Seetickets and will also be available in person booking fee free from Monday 13th August from Esquires Bar\, Slide Record Store & Mario’s Hair Design (not before this date!)

SUMMARY:Southbound play the Sunday Afternoon Session at Bedford Esquires
DESCRIPTION:Southbound\, the upcoming blues-rock band based in London\, are kicking up quite a storm. Bringing an exclusive take on British Blues\, audiences are enthralled by the unique sounds and grooves that the band create on stage which has helped to propel their career forward. With inspirations drawing from blues\, rock\, jazz\, funk and soul\, Tom (vocals)\, Elliot (rhythm and lead guitar)\, Jordan (rhythm and lead guitar)\, Dan (bass) and Aaron (drums) each bring something distinctive to the table that could only be described as the sound of Southbound; it could be argued that their material\, both in theme and performance\, could only derive from a veteran of the music industry\, however\, this can be accredited to their hard work and passion for music. Whilst writing\, the band draw from the sounds of greats such as Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac\, the Allman Brothers Band\, B.B. King\, and Eric Clapton but also from quite unorthodox artists like Santana\, Jeff Beck\, Gary Clark Jr and jazz-fusion band Snarky Puppy. When performing live\, all these influences come together to create an unparalleled live experience that’s both entertaining and mesmerising.

SUMMARY:The Amorettes + Naked Six
DESCRIPTION:The Pad Presents\nwww.thepadpresents.com \nThe Amorettes + NAKED SIX – Saturday 24th November\, Bedford Esquires \nWhilst today’s popular music world seems to be based around the idea of “style over substance”\, Scottish Hard Rock Trio\, The Amorettes\, have a very simple plan; Taking over the world\, one show at a time! \nNo fuss! No gimmicks! Just good\, old-fashioned hard work\, and great songs. Anyone who’s ever experienced an Amorettes live show can easily testify to the buzz of expectation that kicks in as soon the lights go down\, and the intro rolls. Never has the Slade track\, We’ll bring the house down been so prophetic in its meaning. The roar from the crowd builds expectation from the very start\, and the energy and intensity doesn’t let up until we reach the end together. \nWitness the audience sing-a-long during the anthemic set closer\, Hot And Heavy\, a track always pre-empted by vocalist/guitarist\, Gill Montgomery asking the sweat soaked audience\, “Is Everybody Hot? Do You Like It HEAVYYY?” \nIt’s not just all down to Montgomery though\, Drummer Hannah McKay\, who is considered to be one of the best young\, drummers on the music scene today\, uses her full kit to deliver knock-out blows to each and every member of the audience. Try and hide as much as you like\, there is no escape from her drumming fury. Likewise\, Bass player Heather McKay is a sight to behold on stage\, banging out her rock-solid rhythms whilst prowling the stage like a Tiger\, her long hair flailing in the lights as her head does not stop moving even for a second. \nHaving what is arguably the tightest rhythm section on today’s rock scene behind her allows Montgomery to showcase her powerful vocals whilst also tearing off riff after riff\, and solo after solo with ease. \nRelentless touring across the UK and Europe has turned The Amorettes into a lean\, mean\, Rock and Roll machine\, leading them to be described as “Like Airbourne fronted by Joan Jett”. Reviews for both live shows\, and the albums\, only reinforce the fact that The Amorettes star is still very much in ascendance\, and\, as long as there are stages to play\, and records to make\, there is no sign of this “Female Motorhead” attempting to take the easy road to the top. \n———— \nTickets are £12 adv\, on sale from Wednesday 3rd October at 10am here:\nhttps://www.seetickets.com/event/the-amorettes/bedford-esquires/1273349 \nAlso available from local outlets Slide Record Shop\, Esquires bar and Mario’s Hair Design

If they came to my town\, I’d show up for that. If they come to your town\, you might wanna show up” – Iggy Pop \nFalse Heads are an east London-based three-piece rock/punk band consisting of Luke Griffiths (Vocals/Guitar)\, Jake Elliott (Bass) and Barney Nash (Drums/Vocals). Having met at Coopers’ Company and Coborn School in Upminster\, the three members reconvened after University to make music together in late 2015. Fields is responsible for signing some of the most iconic acts in rock and roll history\, including\, Nico\, Iggy Pop & The Stooges and The MC5. Fields began mentoring the band\, even declaring that they were “the future of Rock and Roll”. \nAfter releasing a number of singles in 2016 and playing venues including the Roundhouse in July 2016 for the 30th anniversary of the Ramones’ performance\, False Heads released their debut EP Gutter Press in March 2017.\nThe EP received critical acclaim and extensive radio play\, both domestically and internationally. Alongside being played on Radio 1 and recording a live session on Radio X\, Iggy Pop championed the band on his Radio 6 Music programme. \nAfter a hectic summer False Heads are heading out on their own headline tour starting in Galway & Dublin in Eire on 6th Sept\, playing 18 dates across the UK and then onto the Netherlands\, Germany & France. \nwww.falseheads.com \nhttps://www.facebook.com/FalseHeads/ \nhttps://www.instagram.com/falseheads/ \nhttps://twitter.com/falseheads \nSupport from King Purple and MONARCHS \nAfter party til the early hours with Transmission DJ Set

SUMMARY:Brix & the Extricated + The Metatrons
DESCRIPTION:Brix & the Extricated + guests + The Metatrons\n7.30pm\, Sunday 4th November – Bedford Esquires \nCalling all fans of THE FALL & POST-PUNK – The Roar Club & Pad Presents join forces again to bring Brix to Esquires. Brix E. Smith surely needs no introduction and those lucky enough to have seen her support the Jesus & Mary Chain in September last year know this is not to be missed. \nBrix & The Extricated were formed in 2014 by vocalist/guitarist Brix Smith-Start and the legendary bass player Stephen Hanley. Stephen’s brother Paul joined on drums reigniting the Hanley Brother powerhouse rhythm section. The addition of Steve Trafford on guitar brought together these influential\, former members of The Fall. The line up was completed with the addition of Irish guitarist Jason Brown. \nThe starting point was reclaiming classic songs from the Fall back catalogue\, written by members of the Extricated\, which had not been played for 30 years. These key songwriters quickly moved on to writing new material\, which forms the basis of their debut album (produced by John Reynolds) due for release in September 2017 on Blang Records. \nBrix & The Extricated are a sonic juggernaut\, with a woman at the helm\, infusing the hypnotic brutality with sunlight\, harmony\, hooks and riffs. \nUpcoming shows include The Ritz in Manchester alongside The Membranes\, Dub Sex and Evil Blizzard on April 29th. On June 10th they will be at London’s iconic Roundhouse as special guests of the Wedding Present. Further dates to be announced. \nStephen Hanley (The Big Midweek – Route Pubs) and Brix Smith-Start (The Rise\, The Fall\, And The Rise – Faber & Faber) have both written critically acclaimed\, best selling memoirs\, about their lives as musicians and their years in The Fall\, which are widely available. \nTickets priced £15 are on sale Monday 14th May from Seetickets and are available in person from Esquires Bar\, Slide Record Store & Mario’s Hair Design from Friday 18th May. \nWhat are people saying about the Brix & The Extricated? \n“The key is the new songs and there are many of them in the wings. The new song in the encore is\, perhaps\, the high point of the set and a real inkling that the best is yet to come – a grinding bass and great vocal this is a great moment that proves that the back catalogue is just the door of perception and the new stuff will be the proof and making of the band.”\nJohn Robb – Louder Than War \n“Brix’s bright yet gritty vocals soar impressively atop the sonic juggernaut driven by Steve Hanley’s merciless basslines. New offering “Something To Lose” bodes well for future output. “\nHot Press Magazine\, Ireland \n“Ex-The Fall’s Brix Smith and co.\, battle-scarred\, front-line veterans of rock’s toughest tour-of-duty\, proved themselves the real deal\, storming in with US 80s/90s. Brix vocalised with unfettered verve and authority\, while the buzzing guitars of Steve Trafford and Jason Brown whipped up a storm. They were more than ably backed by powerhouse rhythm men\, Steve and Paul Hanley\, who created a savage\, almost motorik assault.\nNew song “Something To Lose” was an exercise in anti-nostalgia. They closed with an unstoppably brilliant New Big Prinz\, arguing that this should be their year.\nRecord Collector Magazine

SUMMARY:Back to the Planet / R.D.F/ Culture Shock
DESCRIPTION:BACK TO THE PLANET / RADICAL DANCE FACTION / CULTURE SHOCK \nLIVE AT BEDFORD ESQUIRES\, 7.30PM\, SATURDAY 27TH OCTOBER \nA huge show lands at Bedford Esquires on Saturday 27th October featuring a triple rotating triple bill of RDF\, BACK TO THE PLANET & CULTURE-SHOCK. One of a handful of dates in the UK we are expecting a very busy night with a line-up that would smash any UK alternative festival. \nAn early arrival is advised as the running order of the bands will be decided on the night. \nRADICAL DANCE FACTION (R.D.F) were founded by Chris Bowsher in Hungerford\, 1986\, and were originally known as ‘Military Surplus’. The band experienced many line up changes\, and Chris remained the only original member up to the time RDF split up (sometime in the late 1990’s). RDF’s music combined punk\, dub\, and ska\, while Chris’ lyrics\, spoken rather than sung\, dealt mainly with political issues\, such as the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 in the song Chinese Poem. Chris also witnessed first hand the Hungerford massacre\, describing his experience in Hot on the Wire. RDF were a regular act on the UK free festival scene prior to the 1994 Criminal Justice Act\, and were part of the crusty and anarcho punk movement. SUMMARY:The Urban Voodoo Machine
DESCRIPTION:After kicking off the New Year with latest single January Blues\, The Urban Voodoo Machine release 15 Shots From The Urban Voodoo Machine – a retrospective of their 15 year career featuring all the single releases along the way. Whether you’re looking for politics & depression (While We Were All Asleep\, Rusty Water & Coffin Nails); remembering the dead (Goodnight My Dear & Fallen Brothers)\, a Wilko Johnson collab (Help Me Jesus)\, an anti-love song (Love Song #666 & Rather You Shot Me Down) or a Latin dance (Crazy Maria – ask about the tattoo!); 15 Shots… caters for the rascal\, the villain\, the swindler & the crook. \nDescribed as Bourbon Soaked Gypsy Blues Bop’n’Stroll\, The Urban Voodoo Machine are a murderers’ row of rogues dressed in black and red\, led by the ever enigmatic Paul-Ronney Angel\, who spend their time exploring Gypsy Blues\, Americana\, New Orleans Jazz\, Rock’n’Roll and the wares of Mr Jack Daniels. With comparisons to The Pogues and Tom Waits\, The Urban Voodoo Machine are considered one of the most impressive live acts in the country – a claim supported by Classic Rock. Despite their influences\, Angel insists that “we’re not Americana and we’re definitely not retro… I write songs about living in London right now. Although having a s**t time\, no money\, heartbreak\, mental illness\, addiction and suppression from ‘the big guy’ is kinda universal and timeless.” \nLooking further into the band’s history\, it’s little surprise that frontman Paul-Ronney Angel takes such a bleak view\, having lost guitarist Nick Marsh (Flesh for Lulu) to throat cancer and violinist Rob “The Kid” Skipper to an accidental heroin overdose in recent years. Combined with a world that looks to be heading ever faster toward Armageddon; P-R keeps a dry\, humourous twist on life telling Classic Rock “When life goes to shit you just gotta have a drink and a laugh about it!” Having played Glastonbury\, Download\, Latitude\, Bestival and Hard Rock Calling\, toured with The Pogues & the New York Dolls plus received love & support from Radio 2’s Paul Jones & Huey Morgan\, 6Music’s Gideon Coe\, Chris Hawkins & Tom Robinson\, the Guardian\, Q Mag\, Classic Rock and Vive Le Rock on their previous albums\, The Urban Voodoo Machine enter the new year as one of the greatest live acts in the country – terrifyingly bizarre\, hysterically funny\, a riot for the eyes and sensation for the ears\, determined to stand up to ‘The Man’ and overcome all negative aspects of Brexit\, austerity\, division\, fear and the threat to live music venues across the land. Never fear though\, The Urban Voodoo Machine ain’t going nowhere! Check the website for their ever busy touring schedule & their own club night Gypsy Hotel too. \nTickets available from https://www.wegottickets.com/event/440205
