SUMMARY:Toseland / Skarlett Riot at Esquires\, Bedford
DESCRIPTION:TOSELAND\nJames Toseland began his full-time music career by collaborating with Little Angels legend Toby Jepson to write an album packed with hard/classic rock and power ballads. He’s used the grit\, determination and will to succeed that made him a double world superbike champion to focus on pursuing his first passion in life: music. \nToseland’s first three releases\, from the album ‘Renegade’\, (‘Life Is Beautiful’\, ‘Crash Landing’ and ‘Renegade’) all made it on to the A list on national radio stations and the album has received outstanding reviews. \nBeing invited to Play ‘Download Festival’\, as well as being the opening act for ‘The Darkness’ and ‘Little Angels’ provided an incredible kick start to the band’s career. U.K. headline tours followed\, along with special guest slots with ‘Status Quo’ and ‘Reef’\, ‘Calling Festival’ with ‘Aerosmith’ and various appearances in Europe. Toseland continue an amazing couple of years for a band with high hopes. \nSkarlett Riot \n♫☆♪☆♫☆♪☆♫☆♪☆♫☆♪☆♫☆♪☆♫☆♪☆♫☆♪☆♫☆♪☆♫☆♪☆♫☆♪☆♫☆♪☆♫☆♪☆♫☆♪☆ \nTICKETS: £10 Adv / £12 Door \nAVAILABLE FROM THE FOLLOWING OUTLETS: \nAdvance Tickets – \nhttp://www.juiceboxindie.com \nAges 16+ (Under 16s to be accompanied by a guardian) \nTickets may be available on the door but we strongly advise you purchase them in advance to avoid disappointment \nSo you know what to do now\, click on JOIN\, then invite your friends and spread the word!

SUMMARY:Noga Erez / Idolising Nova / Sian Cross / Bedford Esquires
DESCRIPTION:THE PAD PRESENTS\nhttp://www.thepadpresents.com \nNOGA EREZ + IDOLISING NOVA – Sunday 29th October – Bedford Esquires \nEvery so often an artist emerges who completely changes the game. Meet renegade experimentalist Noga Erez. Born and living just outside Tel Aviv\, Erez’s freewheeling songs are energised by the politics that surround her\, but are also anchored in a desire to make as many people as possible feel. \nThis is politically charged pop exploded out onto a universal stage. Inspired by strong artistic figures such as Björk and MIA\, as well as everyone from Frank Ocean to Radiohead to Kendrick Lamar to FKA Twigs\, Erez is the definitive sound of the world we live in today. \nFor Erez\, music is at its best when it allows for both presence and absence. “I have this idea of giving people moments of thought and inspiration\, and at the same time giving moments of escapism and fun.”That is\, after all\, what all music should do\, and what Noga Erez is here to fearlessly master. \nSupport on the night comes from a very exciting new electro-indie outfit called Idolising Nova\, keep an eye on these guys as they’re going to go big. Also on the line up we have just confirmed the amazing Sian Cross too\, make sure you catch her. \n————- \nTickets are on sale now\, £8.50 advance here:\nhttp://www.seetickets.com/event/noga-erez/bedford-esquires/1135380 \nTickets on sale from our usual local outlets from Friday 11th August.

SUMMARY:Fij & Bickers (Adorable / House of Love) + The Grubby Mitts
DESCRIPTION:The Roar Club and Club Biscuit are excited to confirm that Pete Fij and Terry Bickers will be appearing at Bedford Esquires on Thursday the 26th of October. \nPete Fij first came to prominence as the lead singer of cult Creation band (and Esquires regulars!) Adorable\, whilst Terry Bickers surely needs no introduction as the guitarist in The House of Love. With a shared love of melancholy\, they have teamed up to make sweet\, miserable music ‘like The Velvet Underground\, Johnny Cash & The Everly Brothers all jamming at four in the morning\, trying not to wake the neighbours up.’ \nNow on their second album\, ‘We are Millionaires’\, the duo produce beautifully sad tunes which have earned them rave reviews. \n‘Minor key\, acoustic introspection done so beautifully it’s as if they’re singing to one another in the dustlight of a pub back room’ – MOJO \n‘A gently melancholic album that’s really rather lovely’ – The Guardian \n‘One of the most captivating albums of this year… darkly and poetically beautiful’ – Louder than War. \nWith BBC 6 Music sessions and sold out gigs in London and their hometown of Brighton\, Fij and Bickers are an uplifting reminder that it really is never too late to get your band together. \nTickets are £8 in advance\, available now from http://www.seetickets.com / http://www.wegottickets.com and shortly from Esquires bar. \nThis gig will take place in the suitably intimate surroundings of Holy Moly’s – we might even bring along some candles! \nSupport comes from Bedford’s own Grubby Mitts and their brilliantly inventive collection of found sounds\, wistful melodies and wonky electronica.

SUMMARY:Theatre of Hate + The Broadway Twisters\, 25th Oct\, Craufurd Arms
DESCRIPTION:THEATRE OF HATE\n + The Broadway Twisters \n7.30pm\, WEDNESDAY 25TH OCTOBER\, THE CRAUFURD ARMS\, MILTON KEYNES \nFollowing a sell-out show back in 2016 with Spear of Destiny & his solo shows Kirk Brandon brings the original post-punk band Theatre Of Hate to The Craufurd Arms this October as part of the bands European tour. \nIn 1980\, Kirk Brandon formed Theatre Of Hate from the ashes of heralded punk band The Pack. Joining Kirk on vocals were notable punk musicians Stan Stammers and Luke Rendall\, along with old school friend\, Steve Guthrie and Canadian born John “Boy” Lennard\, who revolutionised the band’s sound with his haunting sax lines.\nTheatre Of Hate’s debut double-A-side single\, “Legion”/”Original Sin”\, topped the independent chart in 1980\, and “Westworld”\, their debut album\, produced by Mick Jones from The Clash and released in 1982\,held the number one position for 21 weeks. The single taken from the album\, “Do You Believe In The Westworld?” has become an anthem and is still widely played in clubs and on international radio\, as well as featuring on numerous compilation albums. \nSupporting the likes of The Clash & Ian Dury lead to Theatre Of Hate headlining major venues across the UK & Northern Europe. \nTheatre Of Hate imploded in 1982\, with Kirk taking Stan forward to form Spear Of Destiny\, but the band has resurfaced over the years to play some very special shows. Having been asked by John Curd to join The Damned for a massive show at London’s infamous Roundhouse in December 2014 the band once again joined the fray. A short set of dates around the London anchor show attracted rave reviews\, as did a 6 night night SOLD OUT run in December 2014. \n2015 saw the band play two short jaunts across the UK in April and December both sets of dates wowed large crowds. \nDuring touring in 2014 and 2015 the band constantly recorded at Oxygen Studios in Manchester\, the first new studio album in 30 years KINSHI was released late last year on CD\, Vinyl\, Download & Dub. The 12 brand new songs are simply stunning. Part funded by a fan based private Pledge campaign this THEATRE OF HATE masterpiece is all set propel the band even further back into the spotlight. Between\, October and November\, THEATRE OF HATE will tour ‘Kinshi’ across the UK and over Europe. \nKirk\, Stan and John will be joined by current Spear Of Destiny band member Adrian Portas (New Model Army) and Chris Bell(Hugh Cornwall) on drums to pay homage to the iconic TOH sound. \nSupport TBC \nTickets priced £16 are on sale from See-tickets\, we got Tickets\, Craufurd Arms website as well as over the bar in person.

SUMMARY:Catfish play the Sunday Afternoon Session at Bedford Esquires
DESCRIPTION:British Blues Award winners Catfish have carved a reputation for themselves as an excellent live band with a phenomenal frontman in 22 year old guitarist/vocalist Matt Long who plays with a real passion for the blues. \nThey received two nominations in the British Blues Awards 2015\, taking third in Emerging Artist\, and followed this with three in 2016\, taking first in keyboards and third in Young Artist. \nThe band crashed onto the blues scene in January 2015\, with their debut album ‘So Many Roads’ going straight in at no 1 in the IBBA blues airplay charts. Their EP\, a tribute to BB King called ‘When BB Sings the Blues’\, charted at no 5 in February 2016. \nIn January 2017 they released their much-anticipated second album ‘Broken Man’ which is almost entirely original material. Broken Man also reached no 1 in the IBBA blues airplay charts in March 2017. This is blues with a very broad brush – from epic prog anthems to stripped back piano ballads. Reviews include this one from Blues in Britain Magazine: \n‘Catfish’s new Broken Man album…is a turning point for the band showing that not only is Catfish one of the best live bands on the blues circuit at the moment\, but that the calibre of their songwriting matches that.’ Blues in Britain\, December 2016 \nand this one from Blues Matters Magazine: \n‘Catfish are one of the finest live bands in Britain today. The quality of musicianship is outstanding and in Matt Long\, they have one of the greatest young guitarists on the scene today…’ Blues Matters Magazine August 2017 \nAnd here are a couple of the lovely comments from Facebook from audience members \n‘It’s not often I get emotional\, but after seeing Catfish play i am man enough to say their performance brought tears to my eyes. The guitar player just blew me away and this guy plays with his heart and soul\, which is something you can’t learn.’ \n‘This kid had me speechless\, not seen talent like that in years and years\, it was emotional\, a privilege to mix his sound’ \n‘Absolutely stunning performance…. A masterclass was delivered to us\, the likes of which few have the privilege to witness.’ \nTheir busy tour schedule has included a number of major festivals including Bluesfest at the 02\, Cambridge Rock Festival\, The Great British Rock and Blue Festivals in Colne and Skegness as well as major blues clubs all over the country. In 2018\, they have three European tours already booked\, and have been asked to play in the USA in July 2018.

SUMMARY:CC Smugglers / All Our Exes Live In Texas / Bedford Esquires
DESCRIPTION:CC Smugglers\n+All Our Exes Live in Texas\n8pm\, Saturday 21st October\, Bedford Esquires \nWe are very pleased to announce that CC Smugglers will be coming back to their home town venue on Saturday 21st October having sold out their previous 5 visits here. \nFollowing the success of their single ‘Rhythm’\, which made BBC Radio 2’s playlist\, along with live sessions on the station and BBC 6 Music\, and an incredible couple of years on the live scene with soldout headline shows across the UK and Europe\, festival appearances including a headline set on Latitude Festival’s BBC Introducing Stage\, and opening for the likes of Old Crow Medicine Show\, Bruce Springsteen and Ward Thomas\, among others – CC Smugglers have released their brand new single ‘Dirty Money’ to stream and download worldwide.\nIn the words of lead vocalist & songwriter Richie Prynne:\n“The song is about remembering that even though in today’s consumer-driven world\, it’s easy to think that having enough money will make you happy. Happiness is a state of mind\, not a collection of possessions or a certain number in your bank account. As touring musicians trying to make a name for ourselves this is very competitive and demanding industry\, it is important to remember. Someone recently said to me “Richie\, why the hell are you writing songs like this\, we badly need some more money.” My response is\, yes a business needs capital\, but if I really needed money\, I would probably go and get a job that paid lots. Happiness goes way deeper than business capital and I think it’s good to remind ourselves. This song is us reminding ourselves.”\nTickets are £10 advance\, on sale Wednesday 21st June 10am available online from Seetickets or in person from Esquires Bar\, Slide Record Shop & Mario’s Hair Design in Kempston – We highly advise picking up tickets in advance for this one.

SUMMARY:Kent Duchaine & Leadbessie + Carl Linnett & Two Blu at Esquires
DESCRIPTION:The long awaited return of Kent Duchaine and Leadbessie to Holy Moly’s\nKent DuChaine has listened to\, hung out with\, opened up for\, traveled and played with most of the great Blues men and women his whole adult life. The list is too long to name them all\, but some of the major ones are: Muddy Waters\, Howlin’ Wolf\, John Lee Hooker\, Big Mama Thornton\, Koko Taylor\, BB\, Albert and Freddie King\, Willie Dixon\, Bukka White\, Johnny Shines\, Robert JR Lockwood\, Mississippi Fred McDowell\, Furry Lewis and Son House. These were the big Country and Urban Blues influences who Kent heard and/or played with.\nKent’s early days with the Blues involved him both living and learning the Blues life.\nHe has played in most of the major Blues festivals in the U.S.A. and Europe and was part of a Grammy nominated album recorded at the prestigious Smithsonian Institute Festival of Folk Life in Washington D.C. The theme of the festival was “The Roots of Rhythm & Blues\, The Robert Johnson Era” and was recorded and released by Sony Music. It featured Robert Johnson’s old buddies\, Johnny Shines\, Robert JR Lockwood\, Honeyboy Edwards\, and Henry Townsend.\nKent attended two of the early “Ann Arbor Blues Festivals” in the 70’s. It united together virtually every important Blues man and woman in the world who performed for the three days and nights in August.\nHis dedication and talent for the blues earned him the honor of opening two shows for Bukka White\, spending time with Mississippi Fred McDowell and befriending his hometown Bluesmen\, Lazy Bill Lucas and Mojo Buford in Minneapolis\, Minnesota. He has even hung out with Muddy Waters who he later paid his last respects to at Muddys’ funeral in Chicago. You will have to wait till you see him on stage to hear if he took up Muddy’s offer of some reefer and Champagne!\nThe Blues were happening all around Kent at this time and he ended up playing alongside Kim Wilson in a band called “Aces\, Straights & Shuffles”. Willie Dixon heard the band and complimented Kent on his slide playing sounding like a young Muddy Waters. Willie arranged a recording contract for the boys to help them launch their career by putting them on stage with Howlin’ Wolf\, John Lee Hooker\, Albert Collins and Margie Evans.\nKent spent time in Austin\, Texas in the mid 70’s\, soaking up the blues at “Antone’s”\, who where beginning to bring in alot of the old Blues men. He met Stevie Ray Vaughn and learned that there where others who shared the same passion and respect for the real Blues.\nAround this time the most incredible thing happened: after searching for ten years\, Kent found his beloved 1934 National Steel guitar\, Leadbessie.\nAfter some time\, Kent could see that the solo Blues life was where he wanted to go. Traveling the roads alone allowed him the opportunities he was seeking. Following the Blues trails unhindered gave him the freedom to play where and when he wanted\, for what ever he could get\, even if it was just a meal and a drink. The solo life built his following\, reputation and talent for the real Blues.\nBy the late 80’s he was doing 300+ shows a year all over N. America. He was blessed by the Blues in 1989 by coming across the great Johnny Shines who was living in Alabama. Kent had been based there already for seven years so he knew his way around. The two of them together where a sight to see….” The Young and the Old”. Kent and Johnny traveled for three years and did over 200 shows together. He also recorded a W.C. Handy award winning album with Johnny and Snooky Pryor. The Blues rained down April 21st 1992\, just four days before the two of them where to celebrate their birthdays together\, Johnny passsed away. Kent understanding that this is life\, carried on alone.\nHe has spent most of the last 20 years traveling back and forth to Europe and has done close to 100 European tours of 4-6 weeks each. He has logged millions of miles and many 1000’s of shows.

SUMMARY:The Pad Presents / Cabbage / The Blinders / Queen Zee
DESCRIPTION:THE PAD PRESENTS\nhttp://www.thepadpresents.com \nCABBAGE – The Blinders – Queen Zee and the Sasstones – Wednesday 18th October at Bedford Esquires. \nWe’re very pleased to announce that we have (finally!) secured a date with Cabbage on their October UK tour\, with ridiculously strong support from The Blinders and Queen Zee & The Sasstones! \nCabbage headlined our stage at Levels Festival in luton last year and have since become the hottest band in the UK\, selling out every single date on their tour earlier this year. This one will sell out\, so make sure you pick up tockets in advance. \nManchester based five piece Politburo\, serving up an idiosyncratic\, satirical attack in the form of discordant neo post-punk. \nWith a collective desire to express themselves creatively\, artistically\, and in a semi rebellious – but ultimately meaningful nature – Cabbage are here to fight for all that’s good. Oliver Rodrigues in 1825 said: “The power of the arts is indeed the most immediate and fastest way to social\, political and economic reform\,” and Cabbage join and submerge in that struggle and inevitable victory. \nOn Friday 30th September Cabbage released their new four-track EP ‘Uber Capitalist Death Trade’ on James Skelly’s Skeleton Key Records\, the original home of Blossoms and home of She Drew the Gun. The EP is the first of three upcoming EP releases by the hotly-tipped Manchester five-piece\, with the second EP due next month. ‘Uber Capitalist Death Trade EP’ follows the recent single ‘Dinner Lady’\, released as a 7 inch on Tim Burgess’s Ogenesis Recordings. \nCabbage are Lee Broadbent (lead vocals)\, Joe Martin (vocals\, guitar)\, Eoghan Clifford (guitar)\, Stephen Evans (bass) and Asa Morley (drums). With “the black humour of Buzzcocks\, the surrealism of Happy Mondays\, the haircuts of various Stone Roses” (i-D)\, Cabbage are a semi-controlled riot of tunes\, energy and opinions. NME described their debut EP ‘Le Chou’ as “five twisted post-punk slinkers stuffed with explicit lyrics and Jack White levels of rage” while The Guardian suggested that “they’re hell-bent on filling the current vacancy for rock’n’roll commentator on Brexit Britain.” \n———- \nTickets are £13 advance\, on sale Friday 9th June at 10am here:\nhttp://www.seetickets.com/event/cabbage/bedford-esquires-bedford/1109132 \nTickets also available from our local outlets Esquires\, Slide Record Shop and Marios Hair Design. \nThis is a 14+ ages show\, under 16s to be accompanied by an adult.

SUMMARY:Roadhouse play the Sunday Afternoon Session at Bedford Esquires
DESCRIPTION:Roadhouse was formed in 1991 by Gary Boner\, ably assisted throughout by the driving bass of Bill Hobley and the powerful drumming of Roger Hunt. Seizing on an eclectic mix of influences from Lynyrd Skynyrd to Creedence Clearwater Revival\, the band has developed a sound all of its own. In the words of a recent Blues Matters review: “They veer towards the rocky side of the Blues\, but are clearly Blues based and play in a punchy style with musicianship and original songs of the highest quality”. Roadhouse is a merger of experienced Blues/Rock musicians and 3 dynamic\, young female vocalists \nRoadhouse play a South London twist on gothic Americana\, the songs paint cinematic soundscapes and feature themes of desperation\, film noir\, loss of hope and redemption

His reflective and soulful lyrics\, almost like hand-written letters\, remind us that human stories of lost love\, sudden fortune\, and abiding mystery transcend the decades…and nothing is better or worse right now than it’s ever been.
