A collection of fierce rock anthems\, Echo Chamber is an expression of people’s frustrations in all walks of life. Featuring the lead single and stomping protest song\, “Blindfold”\, the EP is a strong snapshot of the energy that they recreate on stage. Echo Chamber proved to be a real triumph for the band\, securing them nominations for multiple local music awards for both EP of the Year and Track of the year.\nWith new music on the way it has been great to see this band develop over the past few months and the hard work of getting themselves out there in people’s faces and playing a lot of shows starting to pay off. \n9.10pm – 9.40 – PHANTOM ISLE \nFormed in 2017 in Northampton\, now based in London – Dream Pop collective Phantom Isle are brothers Peter and Matt Marchant\, Joshua Pullen\, Jonny Longland and Sam Thorne\, riding the wave of Neo-Psychedelia with catchy and infectious stadium choruses\nThe band have just dropped their new single Four Walls here https://ffm.to/phantomislefourwallssingle \n“Phantom Isle fill your ears with forceful melody\, maddeningly moving and evocative\, in their new tune ‘Four Walls’.\nDream pop dressed up in drama from start to finish… This song will alter your state for sure.” – Odd Nugget\n“Absolutely amazing live band” – BBC Introducing in Northampton \n10pm – 10.30 – NAKED NEXT DOOR \nHeadlining the show are Naked Next Door. SUMMARY:Art Brut + Ed Borrie (S*M*A*S*H*)
DESCRIPTION:The Roar Club and Club Biscuit are delighted to be bringing one of their all time favourite bands\, ART BRUT (Top of the Pops!) back to Bedford Esquires on Friday the 31st May 2019. \nArt Brut are one of those bands who bring people together\, bizarrely not enough people to fill stadiums\, but everyone remembers their first Art Brut gig. Describing themselves as ‘the sound of a man shouting over the top of some indie racket’\, Art Brut are actually one of the best live acts of the past two decades and Eddie Argos is the finest frontman since Jarvis Cocker. There\, I’ve said it. If you can’t relate to Eddie’s tales of obsessive teenage crushes\, crippling hangovers and the power of a perfect pop song then we simply can’t be friends. \nReturning after a seven year absence with a new line up and a superb new album ‘Wham! Bang! Pow! Let’s Rock Out!’\, this will be Art Brut’s third appearance at Esquires. Hopefully some of you will have formed a band since their last visit otherwise Eddie will be taking names. \nTickets are £15 in advance\, available from 10am on Friday the 12th of April from seetickets.com and shortly afterwards from Esquires Bar / Slide Record store. \nAll together now ‘ART BRUT! TOP OF THE POPS!!’ \nSupport to be announced.

DESCRIPTION:Way back when\, during the ‘Rise of the Machine’ some time in the spring of 1981\, Rockin’ Kurt and his Saur Krauts started pounding the well-rotten boards of the London Rock’n’Roll clubs and pubs. \nInitially the line up consisted of Jeff Harvey — vocals\, (Handsome) John Reddington — guitar\, Alan (Junior\, later aka Maggot) Power — saxamaphone\, Robert (Boppin’ Bert) Boustead — bass\, Mark (Rory) Lyons — drums\, and after seeing their second show\, Paul (Thwack) Laventhol joined on geeter in time for the third gig in July of ’81. \n\nDuring the autumn of that year\, Rockin’ Kurt & His SK’s took a trip up to Bangor\, North Wales\, where Jeff had some chums who’d set up two shows. They were well attended\, at least 5 people came to both shows! After spending our hard-earned cash (20 pounds for both nights I seem to recall\, and no\, not each\, altogether!)\, we drove back through the Welsh hills to London. On our way we decided to do a show for the passing tourists in their lovely warm coaches while we stood on a big rock. From that day on we dropped the ‘Roc’ from Rockin’ Kurt and his Saur Krauts (was too long and hard to say it pissed!) and became known simply as King Kurt. \n‘Til spring of ’82 King Kurt remained the same\, doing gigs around local London\, the Fridge\, Clarendon\, the Pits\, Old Queens Head etc\, dressing up in silly clothes\, playing to packed houses of at least three people\, giving out prizes of sauseges and sauerkraut to anyone who dared dance. Rory had been busy getting King Kurt regular shows at the 101 Club in Clapham where he worked\, and by this time the momentum of virual popularity was growing. Alas Jeff was getting itchy feet and wanted to leave the music bigtime and go to art school in Birmingham. King Kurt needed a replacement singer\, and needed one fast! Along came The Smeg. Things looked good. King Kurt could say goodbye to Jeff and continue on the crazy lonesome train ride that was upon them. \nKK gave Jeff a big farewell ‘do’ at the 101 Club in Clapham.\nKK invited everybody they knew.\nKK dressed up to the nines.\nThe club had more drink than a brewery.\nKK baked Jeff a cake.\nOops.\nKK covered Jeff in the cake. \nWell\, that was it. All over. \nKing Kurt’s fate had been sealed. As soon as Jeff got caked\, all hell broke loose and it was a massive drunken food fight of a night. What a ‘kin great laugh it was too! \nEver since then\, the audience\, (not wanting to miss out on an opportunity like that)\, started bringing their own food to throw at the band\, as well as each other! The news spread like a bushfire and\, well\, here we are now over 25 years later trying to tell the story!

SUMMARY:Daddy Long Legs + Guests
DESCRIPTION:“DADDY LONG LEGS takes the blues and turns them inside out\, upside down\, round about and renews their primal energy. My favorite rompin’ stompin’ New York band of the moment.” -Lenny Kay \n“…like Chicago blues fired at the moon\, played by the demented children of the Pretty Things.” –Rolling Stone \nThis is the third visit to Esquires\, if you caught them before\, you do not want to miss this (but you already know that). \nBrooklyn\, NY-based trio DADDY LONG LEGS—Brian Hurd (vocals\, harmonica\, guitar)\, Murat Akturk (slide guitar)\, Josh Styles (drums\, maraca) will make their Yep Roc Records debut May 10 with Lowdown Ways\, their third studio album. \nProduced by Jimmy Sutton and engineered by Alex Hall (JD McPherson\, Pokey LaFarge\, Jake La Botz) at Hi-Style Studios in Chicago\, the album features 12 original compositions with songwriting contributions from JD McPherson and Sutton. A new direction from their first two studio albums (released by Norton Records)\, Lowdown Ways sees the boys widen their sonic horizons with field hollers\, gospel\, Cajun\, and Mississippi Hill Music\, coupled with their renowned supercharged\, harp-driven R&B bangers.\nThe first single\, “Mornin’ Noon & Nite\,” premiered at WFMU. The track is now available at all streaming services. \nFrontman Brian Hurd describes “Mornin’ Noon & Nite” as “a Hoodoo Stomper in the vein of John Lee Hooker and is about one’s pure\, savage lust for his or her lover.” \nWhen asked by Village Voice “What is DADDY LONG LEGS?\,” Hurd answered\, “Rock and roll salvation through the spirit of roots and blues.” While influenced by the likes of Son House\, Captain Beefheart\, Howlin’ Wolf\, MC5\, and Dr. Feelgood\, their sound personifies garage rock and punk with a contemporary raw twist performed in their own brand of supercharged R&B. \nSince forming in 2010\, the band has released two studio albums\, a live album and two 45s on Norton Records. Their last album was 2015’s DADDY LONG LEGS Rides Tonight. The band has toured with Jon Spencer\, Hurray For The Riff Raff\, The Sonics\, Nikki Lane\, Nick Waterhouse\, amongst others. \nLowdown Ways is now available for pre-order. The vinyl LP arrives on limited edition opaque white vinyl. \nTickets on sale from MONDAY 25th Feb on seetickets.com

SUMMARY:Average Sex + The Courts
DESCRIPTION:When Average sex played Esquires recently supporting Tim Burgess\, we fell for them hard. Buzzsaw indie pop that falls somewhere between The Ramones\, Britpop and The Primitives\, and in singer Laetitia Bocquet they have a genuine superstar in their midsts. \nWhen the Charlatans frontman first heard them he too was smitten\, so much so that he signed them to his record label and asked them to be his backing band on his solo tour. \nFollowing their gig here on the 31st of January we had so many people asking if we could get them back. Therefore we are delighted to confirm they will be headlining Esquires on Friday the 17th of May. \nTickets are a mere £8.50 each\, available now from all the usual places.
