SUMMARY:Dr Feelgood on the Main Stage at Bedford Esquires
DESCRIPTION:Formed on Canvey Island in Essex in the early 1970s Dr. Feelgood remains one of the most popular and exciting live rhythm and blues acts in the world. SUMMARY:Johnny Lloyd (Tribes) - Cancelled.
DESCRIPTION:THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED. REFUNDS AVAILABLE FROM THE POINT OF PURCHASE. \nTaking the hazy pop sound he’d spearheaded with is bandmates\, Johnny spent little time taking it into darker\, rougher territory. He founded a new musical home and friendships with Jamie T\, Mike Crossey (Producer of The 1975\, Hozier) and Hugo White (The Maccabees)\, who helped guide the recording of his first two solo EPs – ‘Dreamland’ and ‘Eden’. \nThe past year or so has seen Johnny extend his songwriting abilities from his own songs to producing music for television and film with over 1\,000 uses of Johnny’s music on TV in 2017 alone as well as writing the score for his first full-length feature film\, Rare Beasts\, in 2018. \nHowever the time came for Johnny to pen more personal songs and set about writing his debut album. Recorded in North London with producer Nathan Coen\, the album is raw and personal. For the finishing touches Johnny called in talented mates Frank Turner\, Hugo White (The Maccabees) and Adam Prendergast of Harry Styles’s band. \nWith the album set for release in early May 2019\, and tours being booked for the UK\, Europe and further afield\, Johnny Lloyd is back with a renewed sense of direction\, a sure and steadfast attitude that is echoed throughout the album. \nFull support line up to be announced \n————————– \nTickets £8.50 adv\, on sale now from Seetickets.com:\nhttps://www.seetickets.com/event/johnny-lloyd/bedford-esquires/1383257 \nAlso available from Esquires Bar\, Slide Record Shop and Mario’s Hair Design \nThis is a 14+ ages show\, under 16s to be accompanied by an adult

SUMMARY:Southbound play the Sunday Afternoon Session
DESCRIPTION:Southbound\, the upcoming blues-rock band based in London\, are kicking up quite a storm.\nBringing an exclusive take on British Blues\, audiences are enthralled by the unique sounds and grooves that the band create on stage. With inspirations drawing from blues\, rock\, jazz\, funk and soul\, Tom (vocals)\, Elliot (rhythm and lead guitar)\, Jordan (rhythm and lead guitar)\, Dan (bass) and Aaron (drums) each bring something distinctive to the table that could only be described as the sound of Southbound; it could be argued that their material\, both in theme and performance\, could only derive from a veteran of the music industry\, however\, as a young band this can be accredited to their hard work and passion for music\, writing and performing.\nThe band draw from the sounds of greats such as Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac\, the Allman Brothers Band\, B.B. King\, and Eric Clapton but also from quite unorthodox artists like Santana\, Jeff Beck\, Gary Clark Jr and jazz-fusion band Snarky Puppy among others.\nWhen performing live\, all these influences come together to create an unparalleled\, entertaining live experience.\n\nSee us\, hear us\, and keep up to date with SOUTHBOUND news on\nhttps://www.southboundbluesrockplayedwithsoul.com/ \nFollow us on Twitter at: https://twitter.com/bandsouthbound \nFind us on YouTube at: https://www.youtube.com/user/southboundbandBlues

SUMMARY:Chris Difford (Squeeze) & Boo Hewerdine (The Bible)
DESCRIPTION:One of the UK’s finest songwriters will be coming to Bedford Esquires on Friday the 29th of November 2019 for a special intimate performance. \nChris Difford and his song writing partner Glen Tilbrook formed the band Squeeze and together they have written some of most enduring and best loved songs of our time. Songs like ‘Up the Junction’\, ‘Cool for Cats’\, ‘Tempted’ and ‘Labelled with Love’. \nOver a career that has spanned nearly half a century\, he has also worked with the likes of Elvis Costello\, Elton John and received an Ivor Novello award for his brilliantly idiosyncratic lyrics. \nWith Squeeze still touring and playing venues like the Royal Albert Hall\, Chris will be making a rare solo appearance in the more slightly less salubrious surroundings of Bedford Esquires as part of his ‘Not Only but Also’ tour. Expect not only classic songs that make the heart skip but also stories and anecdotes from a rich and varied life spent at the forefront of the music business. \nChris will be aided and abetted by Boo Hewerdine\, lead singer and songwriter of The Bible and solo star in his own right. \nTickets are £22.50 in advance\, available now from www.seetickets.com or from Esquires Bar or Slide Record Store (Bedford) with no booking fee. \n(NB – Date re-arranged from May 2019. All original tickets still valid).

SUMMARY:Kid Klumsy with Dead Objectives and Spring Park
DESCRIPTION:Based in and around Coalville\,Leicestershire. Kid Klumsy have been together a little while but are now heading further afield with their own headline shows around the Uk alongside some fantastic festival slots\, all day slots and support slots at larger shows. The bands latest release ‘ Spit Your Dummy Out’ is released on May 27th 2018 via STP Records and is available on Spotify\, ITunes\, Amazon etc etc.\nThe bands earlier ep releases can be listened to and downloaded on the bands bandcamp page elsewhere on our page. The bands fun presence on stage and off will take songs about Pukka Pies\, Dyslexic Monkeys and more to hopefully put a smile on your face\, whether on stage in front of you or via your speakers. The band will also be playing their debut German shows in March 2019 as the Kid Klumsy bandwagon starts to gather pace\, also possible shows in Japan for Halloween 2019 as well as Uk shows galore in 2019\, hopefully you will get on board for the ride with us all.\nDead Objectives offer a fresh\, new assault on everything which is wrong in their world. An incendiary mix of quasi experimental hardcore\, the band comprises 2 females and 2 males\, in an explosive merger of generation X and Generation I.\nBirthed from the conjoined twin cities of Manchester and Salford\, England’s Dead Objectives deliver a sound reminiscent of early Dead Kennedy’s\, Killing Joke\, and Conflict but which\, distinctively\, remains their own.

SUMMARY:Brix & The Extricated -Plus Guests (tbc)
DESCRIPTION:Calling all fans of THE FALL & POST-PUNK – The Roar Club & Pad Presents join forces again to bring Brix to Esquires. Brix E. Smith surely needs no introduction and those lucky enough to have seen her support the Jesus & Mary Chain in September last year know this is not to be missed. \nBrix & The Extricated were formed in 2014 by vocalist/guitarist Brix Smith-Start and the legendary bass player Stephen Hanley. Stephen’s brother Paul joined on drums reigniting the Hanley Brother powerhouse rhythm section. The addition of Steve Trafford on guitar brought together these influential\, former members of The Fall. The line up was completed with the addition of Irish guitarist Jason Brown. \nThe starting point was reclaiming classic songs from the Fall back catalogue\, written by members of the Extricated\, which had not been played for 30 years. These key songwriters quickly moved on to writing new material\, which forms the basis of their debut album (produced by John Reynolds) due for release in September 2017 on Blang Records. \nBrix & The Extricated are a sonic juggernaut\, with a woman at the helm\, infusing the hypnotic brutality with sunlight\, harmony\, hooks and riffs. \nUpcoming shows include The Ritz in Manchester alongside The Membranes\, Dub Sex and Evil Blizzard on April 29th. On June 10th they will be at London’s iconic Roundhouse as special guests of the Wedding Present. Further dates to be announced. \nStephen Hanley (The Big Midweek – Route Pubs) and Brix Smith-Start (The Rise\, The Fall\, And The Rise – Faber & Faber) have both written critically acclaimed\, best selling memoirs\, about their lives as musicians and their years in The Fall\, which are widely available. \nWhat are people saying about the Brix & The Extricated? \n“The key is the new songs and there are many of them in the wings. The new song in the encore is\, perhaps\, the high point of the set and a real inkling that the best is yet to come – a grinding bass and great vocal this is a great moment that proves that the back catalogue is just the door of perception and the new stuff will be the proof and making of the band.”\nJohn Robb – Louder Than War \n“Brix’s bright yet gritty vocals soar impressively atop the sonic juggernaut driven by Steve Hanley’s merciless basslines. New offering “Something To Lose” bodes well for future output. “\nHot Press Magazine\, Ireland \n“Ex-The Fall’s Brix Smith and co.\, battle-scarred\, front-line veterans of rock’s toughest tour-of-duty\, proved themselves the real deal\, storming in with US 80s/90s. Brix vocalised with unfettered verve and authority\, while the buzzing guitars of Steve Trafford and Jason Brown whipped up a storm. They were more than ably backed by powerhouse rhythm men\, Steve and Paul Hanley\, who created a savage\, almost motorik assault.\nNew song “Something To Lose” was an exercise in anti-nostalgia. They closed with an unstoppably brilliant New Big Prinz\, arguing that this should be their year.\nRecord Collector Magazine \nTickets £15 from seetickets.

SUMMARY:The Hooten Hallers / Friday 22nd November / Bedford Esquires
DESCRIPTION:We are very pleased to be bringing The Hooten Hallers to Esquires in November\, having been blown away by the band on The Dead South tour earlier this year. These guys kick some SERIOUS\, make sure you make the effort to catch them. \nColumbia\, Missouri trio The Hooten Hallers are a high-energy blues-rock band known for hard-traveling and wild live shows\, with a seemingly endless tour schedule. The myriad of influences in their music incorporates elements of rhythm & blues\, rock’n’roll\, honky tonk\, jazz\, soul\, and punk with a thematic penchant for the strange and the unexplained. Their live shows take the listener on a seamless ride from unapologetically raucous blues on the lap steel and bass sax\, to a sweet three part harmony country ballad\, to a romping dance number. \n2017’s self-titled album ‘The Hooten Hallers’ on Big Muddy Records\, is the culmination of their experiences from a decade of performing and traveling together. They’ve injected the album with the stories and characters they’ve encountered over many years and miles. Produced by Johnny Walker (Soledad Brothers\, All Seeing Eyes) and Kristo Baricevic (Big Muddy Records)\, the Hooten Hallers’ latest effort showcases their evolution as musicians and songwriters. It garnered attention by Vice’s Noisey – “This album rules”; Rock’N’Reel (UK) – “This is a band that really understands and exudes the history of rock and roll”; Impose Magazine – “another stunner of a music collection”; New Releases Now – “one of the most dynamic live shows around”; AXS – “This album is sheer madness in the best way”; Ground Sounds – “gritty\, groovy\, and bluesy”; amongst others. \nDec 21\, 2018 welcomed the release of a new album\, ‘Live in Missouri’\, recorded at The Blue Note in Columbia\, MO earlier in the year. This new recording closely captures the intense energy of The Hooten Hallers in concert\, with a combination of improvisation\, extended versions of songs\, and many fan favorites. \nListeners often detect hints of George Thorogood\, Morphine\, and Tom Waits\, but anyone who has seen The Hooten Hallers live knows that this power trio is unlike anything they’ve experienced before. \nJohn Randall’s demonically-tinged vocals and manic guitar\, and Andy Rehm’s screaming falsetto vocals and steady\, pounding drum beat keep the band focused on their unique blend of deep blues and country punk. Kellie Everett brings the power with the deep rumble of her baritone and bass saxophones. When The Hooten Hallers come to town\, you know it’s gonna be a party! \n—————————– \nTickets are £9 adv (+BF) from Seetickets:\nhttps://www.seetickets.com/event/the-hooten-hallers/bedford-esquires/1396718 \nAlso available without booking fees from:\nEsquires Bar – Slide Record Shop – Mario’s Hair Design

SUMMARY:Tav Falco + Panther Burns
DESCRIPTION:The ROAR Club & Keep Music Physical have joined forces to bring Tav to Bedford for the first time in history. \nRaised in rural Arkansas\, Tav Falco embarked on his long and distinguished musical career upon arriving in Memphis in the mid-1970s. Teaming up with local music legend Alex Chilton (The Box Tops/Big Star) in 1978\, the duo formed the long-running and still active band Tav Falco’s Panther Burns. Panther Burns thrived on the early 1980s music circuit and were a popular draw at such storied NYC clubs as The Peppermint Lounge and Danceteria. Despite Chilton’s exit from the live lineup in 1984\, Panther Burns carried on and the band’s current discography includes ten studio LPs and numerous EPs\, live albums\, and compilations. \nArtists who have cited Panther Burns as an influence include the American alternative music acts Southern Culture on the Skids\, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion\, Jack Oblivian\, and The Gories. In Europe\, neo-psychedelic groups who have referenced Panther Burns include England’s Spacemen 3; Germany’s Cuban Rebel Girls (named after one of Falco’s original songs); France’s The Dum Dum Boys; Italy’s Time Machine; and Scotland’s Primal Scream. Says Primal Scream frontman Bobby Gillespie\, “Tav has long been a hero/inspiration to Primal Scream. A true master of rock and roll and a cultural ditch digger on the same level as the Cramps. Thanks for all the great music\, Tav.” \nEqual parts primal rock ’n’ roll\, hill country blues & avant-garde art\, Tav Falco’s Panther Burns aren’t just music\, but a state of mind. \nFalco’s current album\, Cabaret of Daggers\, was released to fervent reviews in November 2018. Recorded in Rome\, Falco is joined on Cabaret of Daggers by the latest incarnation of Panther Burns: musical director/producer/guitarist Mario Monterosso (Dale Watson\, Red Mount Trio)\, pianist Francesco D’Agnolo\, bassist Giuseppe Sangirardi and drummer Riccardo Colasante. \nTickets (£12.50) on sale from seetickets.com / Esquires / Slide Record shop

SUMMARY:John Otway (solo show) + guests - Bedford Esquires
DESCRIPTION:JOHN OTWAY (solo show) + guests\n8pm\, Friday 15th November\, Bedford Esquires \nJohn Otway is an English singer-songwriter who has built a sizeable cult audience through extensive touring\, a surreal sense of humour and a self-deprecating underdog persona. \nFrom the age of 9\, John Otway knew he wanted to be a pop star. But even at that young age\, having listened to his sister’s Beatles and Stones records\, he knew he would never be able to do what they do. However\, when his sister got the latest Bob Dylan album\, he knew there was a place for him and he set about learning how to play guitar. \nA visit to a fortune teller would have a profound effect on the young Otway. After gazing into her crystal ball\, she confirmed that Otway would indeed be a star and would have success with a blonde-haired musician. Otway took this prediction very seriously and teamed up with Wild Willy Barrett (the only musician he knew who fitted the fortune teller’s description). In 1972\, the pair released their first single. Gypsy/Misty Mountain was a dedication to the fortune teller who had assured Otway that fame and stardom was just around the corner. The single would be the first of a string of flops\, but it did capture the attention of The Who’s Pete Townshend who offered to produce a number of tracks for the duo. \nSpecial guest support TBC \n————– \nTickets are priced £10 advance and are available online from Seetickets and in person from Saturday 23rd February from Esquires Bar\, Slide Record Store & Mario’s Hair Design.

SUMMARY:The Cosmic Dead // Thee Telepaths at Bedford Esquires
DESCRIPTION:KMP Bedford are proud to welcome one of the UK’s best loved psych rock acts\, The Cosmic Dead\, to Esquires. \nFormed in 2010\, The Cosmic Dead are a quartet from Glasgow\, Scotland who share their music through good vibes and better vibrations. Known for their improv\, chaos strewn\, Buckfast smashed against the wall take on space music\, they have roamed from Roadburn to Las Vegas\, Dundee to Bangalore with each album offering a meditative window into a certain time and space. The Cosmic Dead’s eighth album – Scottish Space Race – is set to be released in September via Riot Season Records on Gatefold 2-LP / CD and has been mastered by John Mcbain (Monster Magnet\, Wellwater Conspiracy). \nThe album was recorded in their Glasgow HQ with cosmic sound guru Luigi Pasquini\, four sprawling chunks of music recorded live amongst a run of momentous late night festival appearances in the summer of 2018. Scottish Space Race is the first Cosmic Dead release to feature the drumming of Tommy Duffin (Headless Kross) and the lap-steel synthesizer yowls of Russell Andrew Gray (Girl Sweat) alongside long-time cosmicians Omar Aborida and James T Mckay. \n“Like a careening\, uncontainable torrent of Buckfast-powered kosmische chaos\, whatever your feelings towards the Scottish quartet’s synth-washed space-jams on record\, their performance is something like having Ken Kesey and Spacemen 3 pour Irn-Bru directly into your third eye.” – The Quietus \nThee Telepaths return to Esquires to support. Psych-driven fuzz with a sound that owes a clear debt to the metallic proto-punk rock of The Stooges & The MC5\, the ’80s drone-fuzz of Loop & Spacemen 3\, the wonky electronics of The Silver Apples & Suicide and the warped heavy psychedelia of Black Sabbath. \nTickets are £8.50 advance.

SUMMARY:Dreadzone - Live at Bedford Esquires
DESCRIPTION:One of the most energetic\, exciting and powerful live bands to emerge from the post-rave scene\, Dreadzone have steadily been releasing albums and progressively bettering\, refining and perfecting their own unique and inimitable take on dub since their inception in 1993. Still going strong after 25 years in the game they have also long been and still are\, one of the best live bands around. \nIn 2019\, Dreadzone move forward as a 5 piece\, after parting ways with their guitarist after 10 years\, and are focusing more on the electronic and dub elements of their stage show – a sound they developed in earlier years of Dreadzone. SUMMARY:The Wave Pictures + The Reverse
DESCRIPTION:Following a brilliant debut performance at Esquires in early 2018\, The Roar Club and Club Biscuit are delighted to be bringing The Wave Pictures back to Bedford on Thursday the 7th November. \nFormed in 1998 in the tiny rural village of Wymeswold in northern Leicestershire\, lead singer and guitarist David Tattersall\, bassist Franic Rozycki\, and drummer Jonny “Huddersfield” Helm were heavily influenced by both the music played by John Peel and their parents classic rock collections. They soon relocated to London\, signed to Moshi Moshi records and have released literally countless highly acclaimed albums (as well as finding time to collaborate with acts such as Darren Hayman\, Herman Dune\, The Mountain Goats\, Jeffrey Lewis and Stanley Brinks) \nMuch loved by 6 Music\, The Wave Pictures are scarily prolific with a formidable discography. Frontman Tattersall is both a brilliant songwriter and guitarist\, often compared to Tom Verlaine (Television)\, Jonathan Richman and Johnny Marr. \n“David Tattersall is the greatest guitarist of his generation” – Marc Riley\, BBC Radio 6 \nWith a career that now spans over two decades\, The Wave Pictures are much more than a cult concern. The regularly sell out venues like The Lexington (London) and The Portland Arms (Cambridge) and headline stages at Festivals like Indietracks\, End of the Road\, Green Man and Primavera Sound (Barcelona). \n“They’re possibly the best live band we’ve ever worked with” – Moshi Moshi Records \nTickets are £13.50 in advance\, available from 10am Friday the 12th of July from www.seetickets.com and shortly afterwards from Slide Records (Bedford) and Esquires Bar (with no booking fees).

SUMMARY:Lucy Spraggan at Esquires | Bedford
DESCRIPTION:Lucy Spraggan is in a good place and wants to share it with you. She is happy in love\, life and music: three things that are reflected in the anthemic\, upbeat\, and infectious sound of her new album. The past few years have been the best of times for the singer-songwriter and Today Was a Good Day sings that message loud. The UK has one of the highest youth suicide rates in the developed world and an ever-growing incidence of mental health difficulties across our population: Spraggan’s personal experience of dark days compels her to pass on the message of hope that forms the backbone of this album. \nIt’s been seven years since Spraggan appeared on the X Factor in 2012 and she’s open about the difficult times when she felt suicidal. “I was a young person with fame and money in my pocket. I was dragged from club to club to play and given free booze\,” says Spraggan. “I’m not sure where I would be without it the experience\, but it was just too much for my brain. I was drinking and partying and in a terrible place.” \nShe reached her lowest moment driving down a motorway 2013. With her foot on the accelerator at 120mph\, she closed her eyes. “I was about to turn my wheel into the central reservation when my dog (her Boston Terrier\, Steve) sneezed. I knew I couldn’t do it to him and he saved me. I came straight home and started Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and my recovery started from there. It opened the door to hope.” \nSpraggan wants use her experiences to help others. Last year\, she released ‘Stick The Kettle On’ – the first track on this the Today Was a Good Day album – in support of CALM – The Campaign Against Living Miserably. The track was written with Roy Stride (Scouting For Girls)\, and Stride and Spraggan decided work with CALM to help people who suffer with mental health issues. \nLucy’s new album\, Today Was a Good Day marked a new chapter for Spraggan musically. She signed a new record and publishing deal with Cooking Vinyl in 2018. The new album\, produced by Jon Maquire showcases Spraggan’s voice in the structure of the songs. Overall she sounds at her most confident and accomplished\, and ready to build on her 50 million views on YouTube and 25 million streams on Spotify. The most Googled musician of 2012\, Spraggan was the first X Factor artist to play Glastonbury and will perform there again this year on the Avalon Stage after filling the Acoustic Tent in 2017. \nThe album was released May 2nd and achieved another No.12 position in the nation UK album chart. \nOctober 2018 saw Lucy sell out yet another UK Headline tour selling nearly 14k tickets. She toured the UK and Europe with Melissa Etheridge and then went to the US and played SXSW for the second year running\, followed by a week of west coast shows and a Florida cruise show with Melissa Etheridge again. She returned to the UK and played another sold out under play tour in the UK and Europe and Lucy is now coming to the end of her US and Canada run of shows throughout June and now has a UK tour this autumn!
