SUMMARY:Aircooled + Guests.
DESCRIPTION:***NEW SHOW*** \nAircooled will be making their Esquires debut on Thursday the 7th May 2026! \nAircooled pull off the rare trick of making music that thrills ravers as much as it does heads. From warm\, enveloping kraut-rock to spiralling\, glossy space odysseys and pure-hearted pop\, it’s disco music for smart people\, party music for retired ravers. \nTheir first album was met with near-instant acclaim\, with Metro describing it as “Wild and wiggy… deeply groovy”\, and earned them support slots with the likes of Suede\, The Wonder Stuff and The Jesus and Mary Chain. \nTheir third album ‘My God it’s Full of Stars!’ is due to be released on the 3rd of April 2026 and represents another quantum leap for the band\, with big songs to fill big (and small) venues. There are songs about the gentrification of St Leonards (‘Idiots’)\, 17th-century German astronomers (‘Kepler’)\, and ‘Delirious’\, an unashamedly disco remembrance of all things hedonistic. It’s epic\, ambitious\, heartfelt\, yet still packed with songs for dancing feet. \nThis is the album that should just send Aircooled into the stars. \n“The children of motoric Kraut-rock. Kosmische. Exciting\, pulsating music for both the dance floor and extended listening at home.” \nTickets on sale now from Seetickets.\n——————————————————————————\nIn association with Arts Council England a limited number of ‘Art is for Everyone’ tickets are available for just £5 from Seetickets to those on a low income or struggling with increases in the cost of living. These tickets are also available to anyone under the age of 25\, regardless of their financial situation.

SUMMARY:John Bramwell (I Am Kloot)
DESCRIPTION:JOHN BRAMWELL (I Am Kloot) 7:30pm\, Friday 15th May\, Bedford Esquires\n\n‘A unique person\, both literally and metaphorically’ – Lauren Laverne‘My favourite songwriter of all time’ – Cate Blanchett‘Bramwell’s new songs are spellbinding’ The Guardian‘The UK’s finest export’  New York Times\n\nAs the singer in I Am Kloot from 1999 to 2014\, John Bramwell achieved a Mercury Prize nomination for 2010’s The Sky At Night\, a Top 10 chart position for 2013’s Let It All In\, numerous UK and European tours and a triumphant farewell at the Queen Elizabeth Hall with an orchestra in 2014. Now\, as a solo artist\, he’s travelling a very different path\, his stunning new album The Light Fantastic is quite a change from his Kloot-days. Darker clouds have been banished\, there are strings and four-part harmonies (a warming development\, since Kloot never had any backing vocals) and a dozen gloriously exhilarating\, beautifully crafted and observed songs about life\, humanity\, the universe and everything. As John puts it\, “It’s been great to find the joy of making music once again. These are the most uplifting songs of my career.”\n\nWhen Kloot ceased in 2014 – stopping playing together\, rather than officially splitting up – he felt burned out\, tired after years on the road. “I’d started to feel like an employee\,” he says. “I just wasn’t functioning creatively. I wanted other experiences.” Initially\, this took the form of extensive solo touring. Feeling reinvigorated and rejuvenated from the freedom of the industry\, he played everywhere from an old German church run by hippies to villages nearby festivals he was playing too\, travelling in an old Mercedes camper fan with his faithful dog Henry in the back. “The response was often like\, ‘I can’t believe you’re playing in my village. Shouldn’t you be at the [Manchester] Apollo or somewhere?’” However\, after hundreds of such shows – which produced a live album\, Live 2016 and self-released solo debut\, 2017’s Leave The Empty Spaces – 2020 brought lockdown and John suddenly wasn’t playing any gigs at all. “I went into a sort of slump\,” he admits now. Feeling isolated and “financially and mentally under duress”\, he poured everything into his music but far from the melancholy or dark album we might have expected\, the guitars\, drums\, cello and lyrical and musical warmth are positively joyous. The singer admits he was partly writing songs to comfort himself in the new circumstance\, but it wasn’t all that simple.\n\n“When we were able to play I’d be driving around in the car with Dave\, I’d be singing something and we’d get the phones out and start recording. These are not very conscious songs. I was just opening my mouth and singing\, almost like a stream of consciousness. There was a real freedom in doing it that way.”The themes of travel and escape are found throughout The Light Fantastic. The album has been lovingly crafted by John Bramwell (guitar and lead vocals)\, Dave Fidler (bass\, guitar\, vocals\, production and engineering)\, Andy Fidler (drums)\, Harriet Bradshaw (cello and vocals) and Alan Lowles (piano\, keyboards and mixing). And the title track\, The Light Fantastic? The term originating from John Milton’s 1645 L’Allegro [“Com\, and trip it as ye go/On the light fantastick toe”] which gradually became “trip the light fantastic” meaning dancing has a more than careful latest owner in John Bramwell\, 2025. “All very subconscious at first\,” he says\, “but then I used it to imply good times.” Indeed – and as we all know\, sometimes the best weather comes after the storm. So get in the van with John\, Henry and the band and trip\, The Light Fantastic.\n\nTickets on sale from Seetickets / Slide Record Shop

SUMMARY:Mozart Estate + The Grubby Mitts
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to welcome Mozart Estate to Esquires on Sunday the 17th May 2026. \nMozart Estate is the current project of one of England’s most singular musical mavericks\, Lawrence\, previously of the hugely influential bands Felt\, Denim and Go-Kart Mozart and the subject of both a movie (‘Lawrence of Belgravia’) and an acclaimed biography (‘Street Level Superstar: A Year with Lawrence’). \n‘Lawrence is a monument to the power of Pop’ – Jarvis Cocker \n‘Lawrence is the one true poet of austerity Britain’ – Bobby Gillespie \nPraise for Street Level Superstar: \nWINNER OF THE 2025 PENDERYN MUSIC BOOK PRIZE\nRough Trade Book of the Year\nUncut Book of the Year\nMojo Book of the Year\nGuardian Book of the Year\nDaily Mail Book of the Year\nFinancial Times Book of the Year\nResident Book of the Year\nTelegraph Book of the Year\nDaily Express Book of the Year \nThe greatest pop star who never ‘made it’\, Lawrence’s previous dreams of glory have been thwarted by a combination of bad luck and self-sabotage\, but could Mozart Estate change all that? A brilliant mix of 70s glam\, wonky synth disco and acerbic lyrics\, their album ’Tower Block in a Jam Jar’ was released last year to universal acclaim. \n‘Tower Block is easily Lawrence’s best record since 1992’s Back In Denim’ – The Wire \n‘Lawrence has delivered the best daft/sincere novelty pop album you’ll hear all year. It’s a sugar rush’ – Classic Rock Magazine \nStill not quite filling stadiums but now selling out venues such as the Lexington and The Trades Club\, we are so excited to welcome Lawrence and his band to Bedford for the very first time. \nIf that is not enough\, Mozart Estate will be supported by Bedford’s very own pop-art collective\, The Grubby Mitts. \nTickets are £20 in advance\, available from 10am\, Friday the 3rd of April from Seetickets / Slide Record Shop. SUMMARY:Dead Dads Club + Tough Cookie
DESCRIPTION:Dead Dads Club + Tough Cookie \n7:30pm\, Weds 20th May\, Bedford Esquires \nWhen Chilli Jesson was 14 years old\, he lost his father to drug addiction. A grieving teenage boy\, he did what most grieving teenage boys would do in that situation: he acted out\, battered by the unfairness of the world and its cold hard realities\, and then he buried his feelings down deep. \nHowever then\, with the arrival of his band Palma Violets\, his life took a very atypical turn. At 19\, Jesson found himself plastered on the cover of the NME and hailed as the most exciting new British group since The Libertines. Palma Violets’ first ever single was Radio One’s Hottest Record in the World; their incendiary clarion call ‘Best of Friends’ ended 2012 as NME’s Track of the Year. For a boy who’d not long had his life turned entirely upside down\, it was all a very good way to pretend that nothing was wrong… “It was all just pushed away and I think\, for me\, it was about shutting it all off\,” he recalls. “But then\, when Palmas finished… I mean\, I thought that would be forever. I was so positive about it. So when it’s taken away or it runs its course\, it becomes very empty on the other side…” \nStill only in his early twenties when his first band called time\, Jesson set about trying to carve out something new. He started a second outfit Crewel Intentions\, and then\, struggling for money and feeling “spat out by the industry”\, answered a call from someone looking to hire an indie-minded songwriter to work on a pop project. “I was working behind the bar and I thought\, fuck it. And it turned out I was good at it\, which was surprising to me\, so I started to write a bunch of my own stuff that was more pop\,” he recalls of his then-third musical foray under his own name. “When you’re skint and you wanna be in music you think\, maybe this is who I am? And it was brilliant – I signed again for the first time since Rough Trade with Palma Violets\, which made me think I was definitely on the right road. And then the A&R who believed in me as this pop star left\, and it all shattered again.” \nDead Dads Club is\, from its knowing title outwards\, a place for anyone who needs it. The first rule of Dead Dads Club is you can talk about whatever you want. Inspired by The Flaming Lips and their ability to write a truly narrative-driven concept record\, Jesson wanted to put it all out there: no mystery\, no metaphor. The MO was that it would be “very clear and direct. I didn’t want to hide behind anything. I just wanted it to be on the nose.” \nThe album\, written alongside bandmate Rupert and produced by Fontaines DC’s Carlos O’Connell\, maps a chronology of the years directly around Jesson’s father’s passing: from the open letter to his 13-year-old self of ‘Only Just Begun’ to the final\, euphoric paean to survival of ‘That’s Life’. In between are some of the most musically vibrant\, vital songs that he’s penned in his career to date: as sonically inspired and robust as they are lyrically open and vulnerable. His two creative foils were hugely important in bringing these tracks to life. Rupert takes the vocal lead on ‘Junkyard Radiator’ and ‘Hospital Pillow’ – the former\, a deceptively melodic yet suitably disorientating meditation on drug dependency; the latter\, a short and sweet memory built around a Beck-like swagger. \nSpecial guest support comes from TOUGH COOKIE London-based alternative band formed by former members of Daisy Brain. The band is known for their introspective depth and infectiothe us energy\, drawing inspiration from various indie/alternative music genres. They combine dynamic arrangements with earnest songwriting\, drawing influences from artists like Pavement\, Radiohead\, and Pixies. Their debut single\, “Emory\,” was released in 2025\, followed by their EP “The Countryside Is Good For You\,” set to be released in October 2025. The band is currently touring the UK and has gained attention for their live performances and emotional alt-rock sound. \n  \n  \nTickets on sale now

SUMMARY:Voka Gentle
DESCRIPTION:Voka Gentle don’t so much write songs as build strange\, beautiful worlds and invite you inside. The London trio have carved out a reputation as one of the UK’s most inventive left‑field acts\, stitching together folk harmonies\, glitchy electronics\, warped psychedelia and off‑kilter pop into something that feels both intimate and otherworldly. Their records twist and shimmer with ideas\, but it’s onstage where everything truly snaps into focus — a place where their experimental instincts meet a real sense of warmth\, humour and human connection. \nExpect a show that moves fluidly between hushed\, harmony‑rich passages and explosive\, beat‑driven surges. Their live shows are known for their unpredictability: samples collide with live instrumentation\, voices loop and overlap\, and melodies emerge from unexpected corners. It’s the kind of performance that rewards close attention but still hits with an immediate emotional pull. \nFor anyone drawn to artists who push at the edges — fans of Caroline Polachek\, Dirty Projectors\, or the more adventurous corners of the UK alt‑folk scene — this is a rare chance to catch a genuinely singular band in one of the region’s most characterful rooms. Esquires has long been a home for boundary‑stretching new music\, and Voka Gentle feel like a perfect fit. \nIf you’re looking for something a little different\, this one’s worth clearing the calendar for. \nTickets on sale now

SUMMARY:Unlucky + shrink + The Greensands
DESCRIPTION:A double‑header built for anyone who wants to feel ahead of the curve\, this Bedford Esquires showcase brings together two of the most promising new bands in the UK underground right now. Friday 29th May has all the makings of one of those “I saw them before they blew up” nights. \nUnlucky have been gathering momentum on the back of their sharp\, serrated sound—lean\, nervy guitars\, rhythm-section punch\, and a vocal delivery that swings between deadpan cool and sudden flashes of intensity. They sit in that sweet spot between post‑punk bite and melodic instinct\, the kind of band who can turn a cramped room electric within seconds. Early shows have already earned them a reputation for being tight\, urgent\, and impossible to ignore. Expect a set that feels like it’s constantly on the brink of boiling over. \nshrink bring a different kind of tension—moody\, atmospheric\, and emotionally charged\, but with a clarity and confidence that marks them out as something special. Their songs move with a cinematic sweep: brooding electronics\, wiry guitars\, and vocals that cut straight through the haze. They’re the sort of band who can shift from quiet introspection to widescreen catharsis in a heartbeat\, and live\, that dynamic hits even harder. If you like your new music with depth\, texture\, and a sense of unease that feels strangely addictive\, shrink are the ones to watch.
