DESCRIPTION:We are excited to confirm that THE WANNADIES will be appearing at Esquires on Wednesday the 11th of November 2026\, one of only a handful of dates for the band. \nFormed in 1988 in the Northern Swedish town of Skellefteå\, the Wannadies\, along with The Cardigans and The Hives\, were a key part of the Swedish indie scene that took the world by storm in the nineties. \nDuring that decade they released numerous power pop classics such as ‘Might be Stars’\, ‘How Does it Feel’\, “Hit’\, ’Someone Somewhere’ ‘Shorty’ from a succession of brilliantly melodic albums\, but are perhaps still best known for the utterly fantastic ‘You and Me Song’\, (76 million Spotify plays and counting!). Featuring on the massive soundtrack to Baz Lurhmann’s ‘Romeo and Juliet’\, It’s an anthem to unending love which has been the ‘first dance’ song of choice for thousands of couples who probably first met at their local indie disco. Perhaps even Esquires! \nReforming in 2016 with all five original members and still playing to huge crowds in Europe\, we are absolutely delighted to be hosting The Wannadies for a rare and intimate UK show. \nTickets are £25 in advance\, on sale from 10am Friday the 20th March from Seetickets and from Slide Record Shop / Esquires (with no booking fees). DESCRIPTION:Straight outta Norwich\, The Cain Pit are the loudest\, weirdest thing to crawl out of the English countryside since someone tried to put mustard in tea. Delivering an electric blend of bluegrass\, punk\, and rockabilly\, they’re not to be missed. \nBorn during what we were pretty sure was the end of the world\, the band started as a studio project between cousins Daryl Blyth (vocals\, double bass) and Scott Blyth (guitar). When the apocalypse inconveniently didn’t happen they figured they might as well make a real band out of it—people seemed to like the demos\, and they were longing for human interaction at the time. After a year of false starts\, questionable life choices\, and several pints of creative inspiration\, they finally roped in the finest hillbilly punks Norwich had to offer: Isaac Crass (banjo)\, Joe Halliday (acoustic guitar\, harmonica)\, and Jamie Tritton (drums). \nThe Cain Pit mash up the energy of punk rock with the twangy heart of bluegrass\, a pinch of rockabilly and other rootsy nonsense. Imagine a bluegrass band that discovered distortion pedals—or a punk band that fell into a hay bale rolled down an hill and splashed into the Norfolk Broads—and you’re getting close. They like to think they’re bridging the gap between genres… though it’s more like they built the bridge\, set it on fire\, and are now gleefully dancing in the ashes\, hollering sugar-coated melodies with crunchy\, bitter centres.

DESCRIPTION:Delighted to be one of the handful of venues who will be hosting a very special co-headline show by The Early Years and Sennen later this year. \nNow reunited as labelmates on the always brilliant Sonic Cathedral records\, both bands grew out of the shoegaze adjacent scene of the early 2000s – the former more influenced by krautrock and drone\, the latter combining post-rock and harmonies – but they’ve both been silent for the best part of a decade. Until now.

The Early Years released their long-awaited third album\, Modern Moonlight\, at the end of May to great acclaim\, while Sennen are also gearing up to share their first new material in over a decade. \nThe Early Years formed in East London in 2005 and have released three albums\, each ten years apart: 2006’s self-titled debut for Beggars Banquet\, 2016’s II\, named as one of Uncut’s Greatest Albums of the 2010s\, and this year’s long-awaited Modern Moonlight. They’ve been remixed by the late\, great Andrew Weatherall\, praised by Brian Eno and toured with RIDE. Their live shows are the stuff of legend\, and this small run of dates will be their first for over EIGHT YEARS!.

DESCRIPTION:A celebration of bass is being held on Friday 20th November\, with a stacked line up\, ft Zed Bias AKA Maddslinky\, Matt Jam Lamont (Tuff Jam)\, Sean Harvey and Covie! \nZED BIAS:\nDave Jones\, AKA Zed Bias\, Maddslinky\, Phuturistix…. a producer and DJ from deep within the UK dance music scene. He scored his first top 30 track with ‘Neighbourhood’ before setting the blueprint for the darker UK Garage sound at the end of the 90s. He was asked to mix the definitive “Sound of the Pirates” compilation and at this time began to infuse a jazzier influence into his tracks. \nFrom the start of his career\, continuously until present day\, Zed Bias has been engaged in remixing duties for a huge number of well known artists\, from Missy Elliot and Mary J Blige to The Streets. \nMATT JAM LAMONT:\nAs one of the stalwarts of UK Garage\, a champion of the genre in its infancy and now one of its most beloved forefathers\, Matt ‘Jam’ Lamont’s tireless involvement in the scene has been integral to the success of the movement as a whole. \nFollowing a residency at South London’s The Arches\, Lamont’s career really skyrocketed back in 1993 where a chance meeting between him and fellow DJ Karl ‘Tuff Enuff’ Brown gave birth to the now legendary production and remix team Tuff Jam. Leaving in their wake a massive back catalogue of defining records\, both Tuff Jam and Matt ‘Jam’ himself have appropriately attained the status of figureheads of the UK garage scene. \nSEAN HARVEY:\nSean Harvey is a respected UK Garage DJ firmly established within the mainstream garage scene. Hailing from Bedford\, Sean’s journey began in 1999 on the legendary pirate radio station Risk FM. Over the past decade\, Sean has cemented his position as a standout name for garage lovers\, sharing stages with heavyweights including Artful Dodger\, DJ Luck & MC Neat\, MC Kie & Wideboys\, and many more. \nCOVIE:\nNo stranger to Bedford Sam Covington (Covie) the home ground talent opens up the bill. DESCRIPTION:SKIDS / THEATRE OF HATE – Co Headline Tour \n7pm Weds 2nd December\, Esquires\, Bedford \nTwo era defining artists SKIDS & THEATRE OF HATE come together this autumn for an explosive UK co-headline tour. \nSKIDS  \nThe Skids formed in 1977 in their hometown of Dunfermline\, Scotland by Richard Jobson\, Stuart Adamson\, Bill Simpson & Tom Kellichan. After releasing an independent single the band were played by John Peel\, supported The Clash in concert and then were signed to Virgin Records in 1978. Their first singles were “Sweet Surburbia”\, “The Saints are Coming” and “Into the Valley” – the latter reaching the UK Top Ten in early 1979. \nTheir seminal debut album “Scared to Dance” came out in 1979 which was quickly followed by two chart singles – “Masquerade” and “Working for the Yankee Dollar”. Both singles were taken from the Bill Nelson produced second album “Days in Europa”. The album also featured new member Rusty Egan of Rich Kids & Visage fame after the departure of Tom Kellichan. The band released two more albums “The Absolute Game” (1980) and “Joy” (1981) before splitting. \nThe current Skids line up see’s the lineup stripped back to an explosive 4 piece with Richard Jobson\, Peter Byrchmore (Membranes)\, Hernandez (Drums) & Connor Whyte (Guitar). \nTHEATRE OF HATE \nIn 1980\, Kirk Brandon formed THEATRE OF HATE from the ashes of heralded punk band The Pack. Joining Kirk on vocals were notable punk musicians Stan Stammers and Luke Rendall\, along with old school friend\, Steve Guthrie and Canadian born John “Boy” Lennard\, who revolutionised the band’s sound with his haunting sax lines. \nTheatre Of Hate’s debut double-A-side single\, “Legion”/”Original Sin”\, topped the independent chart in 1980\, and “Westworld”\, their debut album\, produced by Mick Jones from The Clash and released in 1982\, held the number one position for 21 weeks. The single taken from the album\, “Do You Believe In The West- world?” has become an anthem and is still widely played in clubs and on international radio\, as well as featuring on numerous compilation albums. \nTheatre Of Hate imploded in 1982\, with Kirk taking Stan forward to form Spear Of Destiny\, but the band has resurfaced over the years to play some very special shows across the UK\, Europe and the USA. \nThe band now have a settled line up of Kirk Brandon\, Stan Stammers\, Chris Bell & Clive Osborne who astound their loyal fanbase with high-octane live shows featuring new songs and classics from their back catalogue. \nThe tour which will also include some Irish and European dates later down the line will include venues around the UK of various sizes including some of the classic small grassroots clubs that form the backbone of the UK touring circuit. \nTickets priced £30 are on sale from Fri 5th June

DESCRIPTION:Following his sold out show at the venue almost 5 years ago\, we are delighted to confirm that Bernard Butler will be returning to Esquires for a very special solo show on Thursday the 3rd December 2026.\n\nA Grammy and Brit award winning musician and one of Britain’s most acclaimed guitarists\, Bernard released two solo albums on Creation\, the acclaimed “People Move On” (yielding the hit single “Stay”)\, and “Friends and Lovers”.\n\nIn 2005 he began a collaboration with Duffy spawning her five million-selling\, Grammy and Brit Award winning debut Rockferry\, whilst Butler won the Producer’s Award at the 2009 BRIT Awards.\n\nHe has played guitar live or on records by Pet Shop Boys\, Bryan Ferry\, Roy Orbison\, Bert Jansch\, Neneh Cherry and Robert Plant as well as producing releases by the likes of The Libertines and The Cribs.\n\nIn 2022 a celebrated collaboration with Oscar-nominated actor Jessie Buckley “For All Our Days That Tear The Heart” resulted in widespread critical acclaim and the shortlist to the 2022 Mercury Prize.\n\nTickets for this rare solo show are £22.50 in advance\, available from 10am Friday the 25th September from Seetickets.\n\nIn association with Arts Council England\, a limited number of ‘Art is for Everyone’ tickets are available for just £10 to anyone on a low income or who is struggling with increases in the cost of living. DESCRIPTION:My Life Story bring their lush\, orchestral Britpop drama back to Bedford Esquires on Friday 4th December\, led as ever by charismatic frontman Jake Shillingford. Formed in London and rising to prominence in the mid‑to‑late ’90s\, the band carved out a distinctive niche with their sweeping arrangements and chamber‑pop ambition\, blending pop\, electropop and dance‑rock with a theatrical flair. \nMy Life Story have always stood slightly apart from their Britpop peers — more orchestral\, more dramatic\, more willing to lean into grandeur. Their return to stages in recent years has been met with enthusiasm from long‑time fans and new listeners discovering their catalogue through reissues and fresh releases. They continue to be a huge favourite on the live circuit with their flamboyant shows and loyal following. \nThe band scored 6 Top 40 hits\, including 12 Reasons Why I Love Her\, Sparkle and It’s a Girl Thing\, described by Melody Maker at the time as: “Satisfying escapism.
