On the 13th of February we welcome double grammy award winning singer songwriter GILL LANDRY to Bedford Esquires.
Also known by his stage name of Frank Lemon, Louisiana born Gill is a highly acclaimed solo artist as well as being a former member of Old Crow Medicine Show. During his time with the hugely influential folk / alternative country pioneers, he won a grammy for their album ‘Remedy’ and the concert tour film ‘Big Easy Express’ (featuring Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Mumford and Sons).
Gill is appearing at Esquires for the first time in support of his most recent solo album, ‘Skeleton at the Banquet’, (released on the 24/01/2020) which has been widely described as the best of his career.
‘Landry has elevated his songwriting to a new level, exploring the human condition with a Nick Cave-like forensic beauty…’ MOJO Magazine – 4/5.
‘Landry is the master of the smouldering cowboy ballad’
In addition to the Nick Cave comparison above, Gill’s solo work has also been likened to Leonard Cohen and Tom Waites and he has performed / recorded with acts like Laura Marling, First Aid Kit, Steve Earle and Gillian Welch. If you are a fan of Americana, Folk, Country, Neil Young, Gram Parsons or Johnny Cash, this will be simply unmissable.
Support on the night comes from My Girl The River, American roots and alt-country from Los Angeles via Bedfordshire.
Tickets for what promises to be a very special night are just £11 in advance, available now from https://www.seetickets.com/…/gill-…/bedford-esquires/1467123 and from Esquires Bar / Slide Record Store.
